Aww! I'm so sorry Kreg. I know how it feels to have a pet die in my arms. Last year one of our older horses just laid down and decided it was her time to go. I sat out in the mud with her head cradled in my lap, trying to make her comfortable while her colt pawed and kicked the fence trying to get to her. She was gone before my dad and the vet could get there. Ok, my Dad and I have never had the relationship that I have with my mom.We bicker alot b/c we're so different but I know we love each other.I feel like a total shit for not telling him that as often as I should or as often as he deserves. Well I went on the search for The Perfect Father's Day Gift. Oy! What a mess! (Why are guys so hard to shop for?)Well after looking high and low I finally had an idea. I decided to get him a gift card to The B.A.S.S. Pro Shop/Outdoor World so he could just pick out his own stuff.(I don't know jack about fishing stuff and thats what my Dad loves.) This store is his mecca of fishing/camping/boating/hunting etc etc etc.I think my mom is gonna have to drag him outta the store kicking and screaming b/c he won't want to leave. I couldn't order one online b/c it wouldn't have arrived on time and my Dad checks the mail 90% of the time.The store is 80+ miles (one way) from my house but it is for my Dad after all right?Today was the only chance I had to pull it off though. So I spent most of my day in crappy Dallas traffic and let me tell ya, I'm the first one to admit my driving isnt the best in the world.So it was an adventure to say the least. So after spending more than 1/2 my day driving and alot more $ than I can reasonably afford,I finally got home to see my Dad. Watching him get all choked up and telling me I didn't have to go to all this trouble was well worth every bit of it. Sry,I know this is no relevance to anyone but I just wanted to share. I'm not sure I have a best friend anymore.But here are some of my friends... Sherri..a childhood friend I've known since 1st grade.She went to the AF,so we don't keep in touch regularly. I've been going through the same thing (minus the vertibrae problems..sry to hear about that). I have 11 jumps and haven't jumped in 6 months.This past weekend was the first time in 4 months I've even gone to the DZ.I tried to get current but just wasnt ready I guess. Heres my post,maybe it'll help you feel better atleast, since I really don't have any advice that will help you in your situation b/c I'm having the same problem... getting current good luck.

ok is it just me or should the words "tandem" and "fresh meat" totally not be in the same sentence? But anyway, I mentioned tandems to the JM and he said that,after reading my logbook,training and spending the day with me, he really didn't want to see me regress that much and thought I'd be much better off with just a recurrency jump.I trust him and kinda agree with him even though I know a tandem would be the easier route. Well, I went out to the DZ yesterday morning and talked to the DZO and JM. I spent 4 hours going through a recurrency course, relearning everything I've forgotten in 6 months,and dirt diving a recurrency jump that ended up similar to a combination AFF 4 & 5 with some tracking exercises thrown in. Every time we took a break they'd ask if I was comfortable and ready to jump..nope. The DZO even worked with me on better canopy control, flaring techniques, and offered to be on a radio during my landing if I wanted.As the day wore on, my fears did subside slightly,but I just wasn't ready. I never made the jump.I came home sunburnt,sore from training,disgusted with myself and feeling like a total loser and coward. I was supposed to go back today and try again but I just felt like shit and stayed in bed. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."

I'm on my way to the DZ! Might not get a jump in,but I need some training and time to familiarize myself with the people and DZ. Jitters!Jitters! I hope I can jump.

I haven't jumped in over 6 months. I had some bad experiences that left me with a serious fear of jumping and I have been on the verge of quitting completely b/c I'm a chicken shit. Well, I just got off the phone with the DZO. I'm going to sit down with him and a JM tomorrow to see what we have to do to help me get back on track. I want to do whatever it takes even if I have to do a friggin tandem just to get me out the door again.
