  1. >My friends went back to the UK tired of all the partying. >Erno. I was out til 05:30 on Saturday night also.... no bad >going heh?! I believe you haven't got a liver. You've replaced it with some kind of chemical processing unit. I was still feeling mostly dead Saturday evening.
  2. "Hmm... I have the photo finally. Now I need a signature!" And there you have it! And Dave: There's no way I'm gonna challenge to a Photoshopping draw... I'm not stupid you know. I've seen enough guys go "Well, he doesn't look so tough to me!".
  3. >So basically you would create a hop-n-pop machine. Yup. No way of getting much higher if you want to stay alive and concious. The speed decreases really rapidly when drag and gravity are pulling you to the same direction... I was thinking of buying a second-hand AC-carrier with a steam catapult, get it delivered to Räyskälä, Finland, and mount it upright in the middle of the airfield. What do you think?
  4. Well damn Dave, you beat me to it...
  5. Hehe... "Scratch's flying school - We teach the birds how to fly!" Do you think that would qualify as experience towards an instructor rating?
  6. Your calculations might be pretty accurate. I once calculated the necessary speeds and accelerations for a slingshot to deliver jumpers to the sky on days when the plane's being fixed or there just isn't enough people at the DZ. The way I figured it at about maximum survivable speed and acceleration, you'd need a tower 400m high, and it would throw you upwards to 800m AGL before you run out of speed. I think the numbers I used were pretty near 3G max acceleration and 300kph max speed. And btw, with urls that long, you might want to use the other way of mark-upping a link: {url "http://the.place.to.be/really_long_link_here_that_messes_up_the_layout.html"}Check this out!{/url} Just a friendly hint.
  7. Post the pic as an attachment, I'll resize it for you.
  8. >What is happening? Not much, I just barelyt survived the partying this weekend.../ >As for the rest, if I have to climb that bloody tower crane >one more time to put a Kestril back up there I am going to >shit. Four birds trying to fly and not very good at it...it is like >having children. Your dedication to the little birdies is nothing short of remarkable, but how do you think they survive when there's nobody around lifting them up to the nest? Think about it: You're living in Elbonia(why? beats me...), and don't speak a word of the language. You're raising a family there though. Then, the day comes when your son turns 18, so, with a smile on your face, you kick him out of the house. A few hours later, a police officer comes knocking on your door, with your son in tow, shoves him inside with a smile on his face and says a few words in Elbonian. The next day you kick your son out, again. And a few hours later he's returned back home. You say you're tired of climbing the tower. How frustrated do you think the mother-bird feels?
  9. It's just a marketing term nowadays. Actually I'm not sure it ever was anything else. I don't really consider skydiving an 'extreme-sport'. I think BASE is pretty extreme, as is freeclimbing. Maybe cave-diving. Mountaineering at Everest and Antarctica. Looking at my list, it looks like all those sports have one thing in common; one small mistake is likely to cost you your life.
  10. Morning Grega! As I promised, (hazy) details of last Friday's Halloween party will follow when I get all of that written down.
  11. >But if your stuck with this rig for whatever reason, try it but be >sure you can get the closing loop tight enough. Thats the only problem. You can also ask a rigger about installing padding in the container to fill it up. I haven't seen one these mods myself, but I understand that it's not all that uncommon. It shouldn't be too expensive either.
  12. Impractical, more trouble than it'd be worth IMO. The situations when you're not sure about the airspace above you should be pretty rare. If they're not, there's something wrong with the break-off procedures... The times I've felt it necessary to make absolutely certain there's nobody above me, a barrelroll has worked just fine. Another note: If someone does decide to install a mirror on the alti, make sure it's made of security glass or plastic. You don't want regular glass strapped on your wrist; it could turn a non-incident biff-in into a serious bleeder.
  13. Lots of info and the requirements can be found at http://www.fai.org/parachuting/certificates_proficiency/
  14. http://www.dropzone.com/chat/ that's all I've got... Try to get in...
  15. >You continue to amaze me, Erno. I can't type in English >when I'm drunk, let alone some other language. Ahh. But I can't either. And either can anyone else here! Mutta suomeksi osaan kännissäkin kirjoittaa! MWAHHAAHHAAHHAAAA! Still, comments are welcome at the Pub. We're having a great Halloween party. With some really strong British sauce! Habanero stuff...
  16. at helsinki go to the puB! There's a halloween party at PAul's(not quade) place in Helsinki... Say something at the pub heehee! I'm badly drunk!
  17. >Keeping up with pay per posting would be a nightmare for >all of us and especially HH. Not really. Just design a system that automatically subtracts the fee from your "posting-balance" after every post. Not that I'd like a mandatory payment system. I said it in a different thread already, but for example I haven't bought a DZcom t-shirt only because I have no way of paying for it(no credit cards). >say a $25 discount coupon off their next equipment or >whatever purchase.. Remember there are people from all around the world here. I'd have little use for, say, Square1 coupons...
  18. >Don't you get motion sickness from typing/reading while travelling? So far so good. Besides, the connection isn't too fast, so there's plenty of time to look out the window at the landscape... which is getting dark now, it's raining sleet, and the snow we got here last night is rapidly melting....
  19. >And don't forget the sauna - we want details on Monday I'm shocked that you could even think of such a thing! Alas, I'm not sure there will be a sauna available today... But there is a good chance that there will be naked people, with or without sauna. Details will be reported later. geek notes: The bus has now come about 30km from Hämeenlinna @ 100km/h, there have been no difficulties maintaining the connection. This rocks.
  20. >If he has a sidekick with a speech impediment or a hunchback, run away. Also if he introduces himself as "Igor", I'd be wary...
  21. As long as it's the _nice_ BLinc-people like Tom A... There are a few individuals there I'd rather not see here.
  22. Reporting Live: I am now posting from a bus(Hämeenlinna-Helsinki). I figured I'd give my mobile connection a proper test. So far it's working fine. I'm on my way to a halloween-party at a friends house. Being such a geek, I'll probably setup this laptop at the party and open a connection to The Pub. That way you american people can join our party during your workday(unless you're firewalled out).
  23. >I have no idea where the + and - buttons are either? but I guess >if I understood step one then I would see step two. -Click on "Forums" in the navigation bar on the top of the page. -Now theres a text saying "General [-]" near the top of the page. -Clicking the [-] makes the general category go away. (edit:) >I'm smartnen up I am! Maybe, but you still spell like shit...
  24. Take it easy Dave, Talkback is still here and hasn't changed.. If you get a sudden panic attack at some of the new forums, you can always come back here to catch your breath... Boobies! Beer! Sheep! Feel better yet?
  25. >i think i need an intervention. Yes. I believe you'll need to get a few of your friends to pick you up and drag you to the DZ kicking and screaming, then force your gear on you, get you on the plane and push you out. I'm pretty sure you're gonna be good to go from that point on.
