  1. >My current favourite is to open a big complex spreadsheet on >the screen, curse loudly then storm off for a ciggie, till the >giggle fit subsides... Well damn, that just broke my carefully constructed pokerface! I had to resort to the 'slouch down on the chair until monitor hides your face from the person opposite you'-maneuver.
  2. Ahh yes, the shuffling of papers. Nacmac, take care not to reveal any of the advanced Jedi tricks to people who are not ready for such knowledge... Being a webmaster-kind of guy here at work, I like to shuffle the printout of the site-map and frown at it with a very concentrated look on my face, while typing a response to DZcom. The straight face thing doesn't work always though...
  3. >there are some others that I attain a fair score in. Before I vote you for president, I have to know a bit more about your abilities. How are you're skills in the following areas: -Reckless endangerment of self/others -Blowing up/burning stuff -Promiscuous sexual antics Please take time to answer to my questions, so I can make an informed decision when casting my vote. Thank you.
  4. Now there's an excellent attitude! Let's see if this works out better this time... Welcome to the Forums!
  5. >Now where did I put my peril-blocking sunglasses and my towel... I know where my towel is. Unfortunately the local store did not carry a pair of Joo-Janta 200's. Damn. I'll just have to face the perils.
  6. >how the hell do you guys keep up with this thread? Flat it is hard to >follow and threaded takes friggin ages. Flat. There usually aren't no more than 3 or 4 discussions going on... It doesn't feel all that difficult to me.
  7. >you guys got room for a canadian on this thread? But of course! As long as you're not politically correct, that is.
  8. >The radio news this morning included an interview with what >sounded like a local doctor. He had run blood anlysyes, (...) It says on a Finnish news site that it was the US Moscow embassy that had identified the gas. Also this from BBC news: "ambulance crews who treated hostages at the theatre were ordered to administer naloxone, a medicine routinely given to patients who have overdosed on opiates such as heroin" The authorities still haven't given any official statement about the gas. Interestingly :"foreign intelligence agencies are examining whether the deployment of gas might prove helpful if they are ever faced with similar sieges" WTF? I think it was pretty clear that the results weren't at all desireable?
  9. >The theater siege was always going to end up badly because the >game was bigger than the relative handful of people involved.... The reason it didn't end well, IMO, was because it was planned that way. The terrorists weren't planning to get out alive. Actually I don't think they believed for one moment that their demands would be met, and that the only logical goal for an attack like that(meaning the initial taking of hostages) is to gain publicity. That they got, and unfortunately there is nothing anyone can do to prevent it from happening again.
  10. >Other than that, this one was never going to end well (I think you >said this at the time the news broke, Erno) A pessimist is never disappointed. I was hoping for a miracle of some sort though... >it transpires the gas used was a narcotic, probably opiate based. How new is this bit of news? From what source? The morning show today said there still was no comment from the authorities regarding the type of gas. >It appears that most of the dead were not casualties of gunfire, >but as a direct result of using a narcotic gas. Yes, out of 117 dead, 2 were killed by gunfire. Seems really strong for a narcotic gas to me. I wouldn't be surprised if it was some sort of experimental combat gas the special forces were just waiting to try on someone... >I beleieve the Russians hand was forced when the captors started >shooting inside the theatre I agree. Some of my friends have commented this along the lines of "You just can't do something like that!", but they have no alternatives to present. As tragic as the loss of lives is, this really sent a strong message to future terrorists: "No, your methods don't work. We'd rather kill all the hostages than give in to your demands." >I would be interested to see how various 'special forces' types would >advise a solution to such a situation. Likewise. Although this one seems like a no-win situation to me. Had the gas been, well, some other sort, the outcome could have been much better. But I guess there isn't a chemical agent that would knock out most subjects instantly and not kill any of them. I wonder if the terrorists were really neutralized so fast they didn't have time to blow the place up, or were they, in the end, not so ready to die after all?
  11. Dang Quicktime mutter WinNt without admin priviledges to install QT grumble Hey, a topic for discussion: What do you all think about the solution to the Moscow hostage crisis?

    Revenge

"Eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind." and "Two wrongs don't make a right." In civilized countries, there are laws, and people who enforce those laws. Taking justice in to your own hands isn't a good idea. I'm sorry for your dog, but civilized people deal with this shit in civilized ways.
  13. >>A lot of people(including Sangiro!) have been taking the NA >>thing completely wrong. >> > >I never got that impression. Not from him or anybody else. >What made you think so? Well, someone saw it necessary to start "The American thread" for starters... And the Head Honcho's comments in that thread made me think he wasn't exactly happy with the situation. But, like I said, screw all that. The right sort of americans seem to have found their way here...
  14. Oh well, screw that then. I wasn't becoming PC now was I? If that happens again, please whack me on the back of my head with a length of two-by-four. Thank you.
  15. I got 13 the way they were meant, and these two: >2. A child is born in Boston, Massachusetts to parents who were >both born in Boston, Massachusetts. The child is not a United >States citizen. How is this possible? I got really inventive with this one... Hypothetically, if there was an embassy in Boston, in which the parents were both born, they would have been born in a foreign country. And kid should be born in the embassy too, just to uphold family tradition. >10. How many times can you subtract the number 5 from 25? I was thinking along the same lines with Zennie; but that really doesn't count.
  16. >Look at Erno - his main job is posting here(sorry Erno) Hey what can I do? If the government wants to pay me for PWing at DZ com, who am I to argue? Now listen up people: A lot of people(including Sangiro!) have been taking the NA thing completely wrong. Even though we have meant no ill will towards our colonial brothers and sisters, some have obviously taken this thread the wrong way. Could we let this thread die already and move on to the new one?
  17. Good morning everyone! I can see that you people on the other side of the Atlantic have made yourselves at home on this thread as well. Can we let the NA and A threads die now? Please?
  18. Who is this Clinton Radloff character and are his posts still around?
  19. "Faster! You gotta be faster!" My teammates called me "Redline" for a while after seeing the movie. I think it was because of my dazzling flying skills. Someone might argue it was because of my equally charming personality.
  20. I vote for selling it. No use throwing away perfectly good money. Although the "nailing it to a church door"-option was also tempting... Maybe if it's not worth too many jump-tickets you could do that?
  21. >Is Pi still 3.0 in Indiana? I remember hearing about that... Is it a joke/urban legend or is there some reality-based story behind it? edit: Nevermind.... http://www.snopes.com/religion/pi.htm
  22. >Personally I am still trying to calculate my fall rate in furlongs per fortnight. A typical fallrate for a flatflyer would be somewhere around 300000 to 370000 furlongs/fortnight. I'm glad I could help.
  23. >Hey Robert I think your abacus needs recalibrating >3,000 m is about 10,000 ft.... >950 m is about 3,000 ft. Seems pretty well calibrated to me... 3000m / 0,3048 ~ 9843 ft 950m / 0,3048 ~ 3116 ft
  24. >So who's out there really pushing the limits? Where's the >next big innovation going to come from? I think wingsuits are the latest revolutionary innovation. And the next great innovator will be the guy who lands one and walks away. The SkyRay seems like a pretty neat toy too.
  25. I haven't seen that movie in ages. Pretty much all I remember was that when I first saw it(when I was something like 12), I thought the students were so bad when they were using drugs.
