  1. We're not there yet, but I've gotten two boogies under my belt uninjured since Memorial Day and the third time is a charm! Still haven't got a balloon jump, I gave my last spot to HH cause I was all limpy. I'm doing that in Eloy this year, and I'm bringing beer! Yahoo!
  2. Bah. Whoever is the latest to bring me to the hospital after I've hit the planet gets the "Deuce's Best Skydiving Friend" trophy. You are my partner in crime . Set up that "Pixie Business" in Eloy, and I'll get video for EVERYBODY. It's gonna be completely rockadelic.
  3. It's a good show, and it finally convinced me to hook up my DVD.
  4. Lisa, you are my best skydiving friend. Ha. Said it out loud. JP

    Pub now maggots.

Go to homepage, then pub, then hookup. Do It.
  6. http://www.sounddogs.com/cdlib.asp?Type=3 http://www.smartsound.com/ I get caught. Story of my life. So those are two examples of sources of royalty free music. I use the smart sound stuff because it works so easy with Premiere. It's not great, but I get caught. You can look forward to me laying down quite a lot of it on the DZ.Eloy Holiday Boogie '03 video.
  7. and the mass "cloud" cover in that pic too Nah, that's way out front. It was perfectly clear over the DZ.
  8. Dude, they are politicians, and when you throw them down a well they will grab at anything as they fall, be it a root-branch or a baby's leg. Politics is a bloodsport. Having worked in it, I am only seeing the technical aspects as having merit or not. The bottom line in Florida was that in a statewide election they did not have a statewide standard of what constituted a vote. That would never have been an issue in California, as we have a statewide standard and the Elections Officials stay in close contact and meet monthly on what the f*ck the legislature is up to regarding laws they pass that affects statewide standards. Having 10 machines "go down" is significant, but there should be a written procedure in place to deal with it already. It's problematic as hell when you don't have a written policy, cause then everybody's lawyers come crawling up out of the sewers trying to influence the response to the generation of an unforseen problem. And no, I do not expect you not to pick such a juicy low hanging republican fruit as this one.
  9. http://dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=632052;search_string=switch;#632052 Who's your buddy? (Pictures, even pictures color-corrected by Quade, included!)
  10. That's not a recount, Justin, that's an audit on what could be a thousand votes if precinct size is similar to California. If the Democrat won by significantly more than that, it is a waste of time. I spent the last two and a half years as an elections official in my county (miserable work), so regardless of who the contestants are, this is a valid complaint. It's why in Elections the saying is "pray for a landslide". There are always errors and the officials just hope that the win is big enough for whatever side to obscure them.
  11. The amazing thing about Craig is how open and friendly he is. Way too often folks with his kind of resume attempt to be intimidating and are just condescending as hell. CG is the most engaging, encouraging, and energetic coach I have ever encountered. After videoing the RW on that day CG stops me and compliments me on my work. That was super cool. We have access to a huge wealth of experience at this boogie, and I hope that everyone takes full advantage of it.
  12. Gosh, I had all those chances to crash a Girard formation last year and didn't take any of them. Maybe this year? Check out this picture of last years bigger-way coaching with Craig. In front of me is Katiebear, Mouth, and SM1 and then the gold medalist himself. Ah, Bets, I can't wait!
  13. NacMac, I think the problem probably occurs when changing lenses. I change lenses about a half-dozen times a shooting day, from the 20 (for freefall) to the zoom (for ground and swoops). A dust free DZ?
  14. Cool. I'll be over tomorrow at 10. OK, seriously, what supplies did you use?
  15. Working with the public is hard. Working with stupid members of the public is harder.
  16. Just make sure your head is in it when you stick it in the oven for that "glove" like fit Noice!
  17. Absolutely. And it wasn't going to make them any money. As for the media buys, politicians are going to do what it takes to win. If the RNC needs to get at a demographic that CBS is hitting, they are going to buy. Those "ethics" aren't going to slow them down a bit if it's going to cost them an election. When this thing airs on Showtime, I'll be curious to see how it's recieved. I wasn't going to watch it before, and I'm still not going to. I will enjoy the reactions of the press to it, though.
  18. That gunrack is pretty much a half rack. So far I like my Aviator and Hawkeye LT the best.
  19. This reminds me of the Dixie Chicks debate. In a commercial enterprise, you gotta make money. If the audience wasn't into the message of the miniseries, it gets pulled. If it was a controversy that generated interest, I think they'd have gone ahead and run it. I'm willing to bet they focus-grouped it, and they were screwed, so they bailed on it. Beating up on a guy with alzheimers is just bad commercial decision making. Plus, he was a popular guy, and people want to probably remember him in a positive way. I think its all about dollars.
  20. Dude. Right in the coach's course manual, on page 73, paragraph 2 is states quite clearly "Do not kick students or other skydivers in the head while exiting the aircraft". Trust me, I have a Coach rating and I'm here to help you.
  21. Q, I think its mostly cause these people aren't dead yet.

I liked partying much more in the pre-digital era. It's just more fun getting together the next day and figuring out what happened by piecing together everybody's memories. Most of the waivers include using images of the jumper, but if the jumper doesn't want their picture taken, why force the issue?
  23. I haven't baked my Bat rack liners yet, and I was told to put the whole helmet in the oven and then put it on. Yeah, the guy was serious. I've heard others have baked the whole thing, what are the pros and cons of this technique?
  24. You can use another type of indicator as a site. The best is the Newton Ringsite, but you can use an Eye-bolt so long as it is in the same position as your point of aim. The nice thing about sidemount is that you don't have to shim the camera for the upward angle that good tandem video takes. I have a shim under my still camera mount so that it can be angled up enough to get the chest strap on the student. As you get better at it you need the cameras angled less as you learn the body position. It's hard to be angled back that far and not backslide, and it takes tons of practice. JP
