mini risers reduce drag and allow the collapsed slider to be stowed. These mods make a difference for high speed canopy flight. Which is it's own sport within our sport. Did it NEED to change? Well, not to make our gear more reliable or safe, but it is an essential innovation that is about far more than fashion. Agreed (mostly), but unfortunately you're talking about risers and i'm talking about rings. Does anyone know of any reason why there aren't (that i've seen) small risers with big rings? Is it something more than fashion? Perhaps that is exactly what Areodyne's new system is designed to address. it wasn't my fault... after 7.. yes _7_ pies i stank so much of rotten milk they wouldn't let me in the store to buy beer. that's my story and i'm sticking to it!! yeah.. i'll make good.... first time i had to use 4 digits to log my jump # Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time

heard a great one this weekend... can't belive i never heard it before... "so my mom asked me when i was gonna give up this jumping think and i told her, 'yeah, as soon as both parachutes don't open i'll stop.'" gonna have to use that Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time

there are a couple of simple "home remedies" as well as come rigger-aided solutions. on way is to take the bottom inch of toggle and push it, at the fold, back up into the rest of the toggle and crease it as best you can.. making sure it's trapped this way when you put the risers in the container..... once the pressure is released it will try to spring back to where it was but the extra folds will keep it open. a similar way is to make a new fold at the bottom of the velcro and fold the rest of the excess upward.. the original crease again making things a bit more "3d" and yet another method is to fold the outter portion of the toggle in half lengthwise, so that it can't lay flat against the inner (to the riser) portion. the only real downside to these it that it's something to have to remember to do for sever packjobs for the changes to "take" and must still be done fairly regularly to keep then what way. an alternative is to get your rigger to sew stiffeners into the bottom crease of the toggle to make it pop open. good luck, and blue skies

ummm.. just a wild assertion here, but how about increased cutaway pullforce on high-G cutaways from the lowered mechanical advantage of the mini rings? The mini rings which are, by the way, an engineered fashion statement. Way i understand it is that the new aerodyne rings keep the mini-ring scale intact and bring the mechanical advantage of the system back on-par with the old big-ring system.. which by the way, didn't need to change. even when we used ripcords the students were taught to throw them from the git-go.. the rationale being that we'd rather teach them correctly from the beginning.. Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time

as much as i relish the thought of sharing a small confined space with that face for 9 days, phillykev is right, if it's economics you're looking for, share a room. the nice thing about an RV, obviously, is having a place to hang during the day that is still fairly sociable, etc... but it ain't cheap unless you can camp near someone else's RV who you know Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time

oh sure.... now you're probably gonna toss some logic at me about how it'd be a lot cheaper and easier for me to come there than to cart y'all up here..... well to that i say.... thhhhppttttt c'mon.. someone's gotta have a van... ever heard of a road trip?? someone with low willpower stay sober enough to drive sat night.. everyone else decide on a drunken road trip... and don't forget the gear... c'mon.. doing mt 1000th this weekend.. need some more flatfliers

Being a good freeflyer requires knowing how to bellyfly -- otherwise you CAN NOT fly on any axis, and are not a well-rounded freeflier the Advanced division of the ranch freefly league last year had belly-flying moves in the compulsories... you can't very well do hybrid jumps without belly skills, cause that's how they start Belly skills are becoming much more a part of freeflying that just "the pull position". So get proficient at belly first... it's 1 axis, it's a good base, you learn all the rules that the disciplines have in common. Be able to turn some points, dive to a formation, breakoff properly and track your ass off, then worry about getting vertical. K. I read the post that you were referring to, and had a similar reaction to you. HOWEVER, i think you invited the above rigormorol with a muddled opening post. Let me see if i can clarify CAN wingloading save you? yes WILL it definitely save you? no should you make gear choices to stack the odds in your favor? sure and to the real point of discussion as i understand it: should you base your reactions to a malfunction on your wingloading -- dismiss the severity of a mal because of a lighter leading, hoping it will save you? no, you should base it on whether or not the canopy is safely landable. wing loading can be a factor in this -- i would be more likely to land a sabre230 with 2 broken broken A lines than a velocity 99, but that is because the 230 is more likely to be landable. If the canopy is NOT safely landable, then NO... do NOT rely in your wingloading saving your ass, start your emergency procedures. Yes, complacancy bred by the general forgiveness of lighter wingloadings is a bad thing. But complacency is out sport is almost always a bad thing (i only say almost to keep the nitpickers at bay) YES i think the person who posted that needs a good talking to, unless we grossly misunderstood him. is that more fo what you were looking for? goddamnit!!! First max and now you?!?! I already gave him the low-hook talking-to last week (no, really).. i guess you're in for a good tongue-lashing this weekend..... then after kim is done with you we'll talk about your landings. you're assumung everyone diligently logs their jumps.... and further assuming that they would fess up to logging their jumps if the numbers were ever questioned and NOT in the jumpers favor, "oh, i don't log my jumps, i dunno how many i've put on the cypres *tucks logbook under the carpet*" also have to wonder why it would ever be an investigated issue if the person was still breathing on their own. Yes zp is for life, however R00tdude is right the the CANOPY becomes more porous over its life and passes more air with age (hence easier to get air out when packing etc). The trick is that the stitch holes widen over time.... they are pulled and pulled and pulled and eventually widen and allow more air through, so you're both right for different reasons :) So if you have a stiletto with 2000 jumps on it that is a dog even after a reline, ya might think about having the seams coated.. THAT is where you're losing the air. -jerm Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time
