i'm curious as to what the manufacuring error was, if that is indeed what the cause of the failure was about. However the fact that they're attributing it to such and not mentioning any sort of special circumstances makes me thing that it was a manufacturing error that would present itself under normal usage conditions. Whoa. What rig/loading? Was the rig/canopy new? Did the drogue deploy properly? Did they deploy at tandem terminal? How can a canopy just... split down the middle for no reason? i'm gonna go WAY out on a limb here and say perhaps it was a manufacturing error. just a hunch. Line dump really is a rarity these days.. people get a slammer and say "dude i had total line dump" when really they just had a slammer for one reason or another. Line dump is NOT your stows comming out too quickly and getting a hard opening from it. Line dump is the phenomenon of your canopy coming out of the bag, catching air and inflating (to some degree) before you've reached line stretch -- effectively stopping the canopy in its tracks (as it's totally unloaded) with you still falling away at 120mph and then BLAM... you hit line stretch with you and the canopy moving at very different speeds. Imagine bungee jumping with a bungee that doesn't stretch, or a steel cable. True line dump has a tendency to damage equipment and the person wearing it. So really all the stows need to do is need the canopy in the bag until you reach linestretch... the rest is, as said before, for neatness. ya... they're "enterprise level" drives... mad fast and SCSI-esque reliability... more expensive than regular IDE, but not as expesnive as serious SCSI. personally i'd probably just go with 2 100gig drives mirrored for the same price as that 36gig...more reliable and who needs 10000rpm in a non-server environment? i do video capture and editing on a 7200 drive just fine. *shrug* Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time

True!! I think Headown has a pretty kickass server though. I just remember dial being like 5-7KB/s. So...it's a definate improvement. Even with a kickass server there are a zillion things to factor in -- what is the side of their pipe, how busy is their pipe, who are they connected to, what is the size of THEIR pipe, how busy are they, what routes are being taken, etc....? go to start, then Run, the type CMD (if you're in windows 2000 or XP), then at the prompe type tracert www.headdown.net see the list that pops up.. each of those is a router that your traffic has to pass through to get there... each one a possible point of congestion, and so it gets difficult to tell. agreed.... i routinely dump in a full-on track and have the same openings i have normally... sweet & soft... just a different view oh yeah... packing instructions (for the propackers).. don't touch the nose... just leave it... no rolling, no tucking... oh yeah.. i fly a top-mount camera.
