Did you read the thred? What I understood from what Matt wrote (twice) is that you cannot simply change the stereo to mono with an adapter plug.. You would have to actually cut the wire and re-wire the plug differently.. I hope I understood this correctly ? Thanks for the first hand info. May I ask what kind of camera do you have ? I understand you have also been using the stereo plug ? Was that when you were shooting manual focus ? if not why did you use stereo ? Any other lens than the kit lens ? Did you have a lot of shots out of focus when using the mono ? Im asking this because I just tried shooting around inside my house with the AI servo mode keeping it focusing all the time and some of the shots were out of focus because the focus hadnt kept up with me moving the camera.. I yet dont have my Canon 10-22 so I cant say if that will focus much faster.. Again Im more confused now after you told you had more reliable results with the mono plug...
-
ok. thanks guys.. I guess I will just go with the flow and get the stereo plug. I let someone else find out how the mono works in freefall with AI servo..

Thanks for everyone who replied so far.. I sent the same question to conceptus. Here is the reply: Hi and thanks for contacting Conceptus! The virtually every plug I have sold for over a year has been the stereo plug. It seems to be the most favored and reliable. If you are using a Canon digital did you know Conceptus now offers plugs directly compatible with the Canon digitals? Its a straight plug in, no wiring or adapting. Dick Not much help there... Anyway, it seems to be the best idea, as indys suggested, to get the stereo so I can have the best of both worlds by modifying it mono when needed..

in another thread Lou Diamond wrote : So does the 400D also lock up if using mono plug ? I did some searching here and it seems everyone says the stereo is the only way to go, but the conseptus website gives me someworth different info as they suggest the mono for photographing freeflyers, freestylists, skysurfers, and other moving subjects and the stereo for large, relatively stationary formations. Also the conceptus website suggests the only big con about the mono is the increased battery consumption. Otherwise it seems to yield in faster shutter speed. If this is true I would go for the mono plug since I dont really care about the battery life since freefall doesnt take that long.. Is it just that they forgot to mention that the mono plug wont work on most of the digital cameras ? (like 300, 350, 400 canons )

As far as I have understod the main purpose for the bern convention is to clarify the problems of choosing wich national law should apply to a certain international situation. Its purpose is not to standardize the substance of the law internationally. Its only to tell you wich law we should apply in situation X. Further more the intellectual property law varys very much internationally. US differs from European significantly...

why are some dv tapes shit (sony) an others are not
BMFin replied to rhys's topic in Photography and Video
What part exactly is incorrect may I ask ? At least the information from camcorderinfo says you may very well have problems when mixing different brands. They also indirectly suggest sticking to one brand since they recommend cleaning "absolutely before changing brands of tape if you have been using one brand and decide to switch to another" -

I have always thought most problems people get when mixing different brands of DV tapes together..Sticking with one brand is important, since mixing different brands will cause problems. This is because the different lube between different brands. heres something I found from the net that will explain the issue : "All Metal Evaporated tapes contain a lubricant layer that differs slightly from brand to brand and usually do not cause any problems when they contact each other in the tape transport of a recorder. However, they can react to each other when other substances are added and this problem can be avoided by regular cleanings. Once this reaction has taken place, several problems can occur, including the newly created substance, now a form of contamination, being transferred to the surface of the tape and deposited on other transport components, creating a myriad of problems that can eventually lead to a head clog situation. The best way to combat this is to thoroughly clean transport at strict regular intervals and absolutely before changing brands of tape if you have been using one brand and decide to switch to another. There is no such thing as "wet" and "dry" type lubricants pertaining to Metal Evaporated tape, they are all chlorine based lubricants applied to the surface of the tape while it is still in the vacuum chamber where it is manufactured." -
Why do you think so ?

This may be a stupid question, but what difference does it make wether the flight is domestic or not ?

I think you are partially right but I also think there are big differences on soft ripcords. Ripcord is not just a ripcord. It has a lot to do with its design in terms of safety. And there are big differences even in the ripcord designs (includign housings etc) between different manufacturers.

Found it on pricegrabber.com Can you give me a link ? I couldnt find it there.. Are you sure you didnt didnt get confused with the price of the Sigma 10-20 ? They havent even annouced the weight for the 10mm fisheye, so I doubt they have announced the prices either..
-
I didnt even know the prices were announced yet. Where did you find the price for this lens ? I dont have any experience on the peleng but I hear a lot of people have had problems with it. And why wouldnt you compare the peleng to a sigma 8mm instead ? From what I have heard the sigma 8mm clearly outperforms the peleng 8mm

I tried to say that the 430EX is 230 USD and the 580EX is 460USD in hong kong. These prices are besed on this website. (BTW. products on that site are cheaper if you keep the currency as HKD. They seem to have different prices for people who want to see the USD prices ) I doubt you get any warranty either if you buy from HK.. (other than lenses) Im also going in hong kong in a month. I have heard there are some good second hand camera stores too.. Maby worth checking out..
-
Damnit.. I was kinda hoping someone would have assured me the 430 is enough.. I guess I have to really start considering the 580 then.. Its just that its double the price of a 430. (in Hong Kong 230USD or 460USD) and in the paper it isnt really that much more powerful or faster.. Thanks for the info anyway !!
