Oldest sport canopy still in production
BMFin replied to TrickyDicky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
LOL Sure it has been jumped by many of the pioneers. Im sure those same pioneers have jumped much worse canopies in their days.. But hey. Skydiving gear evolves. The fact that some piece of gear was hot in the old days doesnt mean it is so in the present -
Oldest sport canopy still in production
BMFin replied to TrickyDicky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Not sure how you came up with that. Not sure how you wouldnt come up with that -
Best advice I can think of is: Pay close attention on the way you are speking to the person in question. Most of the times people handle these situations very rude and it will only make things worse.

Hello jefe. I dont have nearly as many jumps as you, but I have to disagree with you here. In my limited experience learning to swoop with a canopy like stiletto or a hornet. (short recovery arc) is something I wouldnt recommend to anyone. Sure it will teach some of the fundamentals of swooping, but it will also teach you to bring your dive really low and you have less room for error this way. Also you will have to learn a much different looking "plane out picture" when moving on to a canopy with longer recovery arc and the danger is that you might have trouble forgetting what you learned with the previous canopy.. Maby something with a medium recovery arc is the canopy I would choose if I would start from the beginning again. This way you wont learn any bad habbits. IMO short recovery arc is not likely to save your butt. Its actually more likely to kick your butt.. Swooping a stiletto (or something similar) looks pretty ugly even if you are an experienced canopy pilot.. Wouldnt recommend it to anyone. Please let me know what you think. -Ville-

15-way sit round attempt at Skydive Arizona ---COME AND PLAY!!!
BMFin replied to amychmelecki's topic in Freeflying
Very nice ! How long did it fly ? -
A few things I would like to point out: -In cropped sensor 15mm isnt really wide. Its only 3mm wider than the kit lens. In my experiense the 10mm very usefull and mostly I set mine to 10mm. -Having a fixed lens isnt really a bonus at all. A zoom lens is much more versatile becouse you can choose how wide you want. Zoom lens is not at all more complicated to use than a fixed on is. I actually zoom my lens sometimes in freefall. Filming tandems first I shoot 10mm and in the end I put it to 22 and film underneath the tandem. Also shooting the landings at 22 gets you better results for sure. -The 10-22 is only 0.6oz heavier than the 15mm sigma. -Most of the time in skydiving you dont need apertures like 2.8 These kind of apertures are usefull only if you need a nice bokeh or you dont have much light. In skydiving you wont need to create bokeh. (it isnt even really possible with wide angles anyway) Only when skydiving in low light conditions the 2.8 offers a slight advantage to the 3.5 minimum aperture of the 10-22. Most lenses perform best at apertures like 8.0 anyway so no reason to really choose the fastest lens for skydiving in my opinion. -15mm sigma is a fisheye lens. This is a matter of personal preference. Some like the effect, some dont.. Tamron I havent used, but I have read good reviews about it from non skydiving photography forums.. There is perhaps a few nice samples in this forum also if you do a search. I also think this would be the other possible good choise for skydiving with the canon 10-22. Sigma 10-20 is a little bit of a gamble becouse of the poor quality control. you never know if you get a good copy before you already bought it. (however, If you do get a good copy its a very nice lens also) Do a search in this forum and you will find a lot of similar threads like this and some of them has some sample photos you can compare..

LOL Happend here also last weekend. She too kept her hand on her mouth the whole time.. I guess she had seen this video

You are making it sound like misfire at 2,5k is somehow better than misfire at 7k ? Am I reading this correct ?
-
I have personally seen 3 misfires on FXC12000 units that I believe were maintained according to manual. I would MUCH rather jump without an AAD..

Cool ! Thanks for sharing. Cant wait to see the 120fps footage in slo-mo

Do you remove your slider every jump?
BMFin replied to everymansaved's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Does a removable slider change terminal opening charasteristics ? What are the changes of a malfunction and a hard opening ? -
How can you have a tight loop with a container of that size ?

Ok.. In this post you say 600-650 (just kiddin) But it seems ranch is a bit above sea level so it makes sense.. Somehow I think if starting from the MAX altitude it means you have to nail the turnrate 100% or you will end up a little high.. And no one wants to be too high.. But seriously, If you leave a little bit room left for the recovery you still have some "play room" if it seems you turned too fast and you wont end up high this way so often.. To me this seems important with XF2 since, I have found that when my XF2 wants to plane out it planes out. Watching the big boys swoop with velos it seems the angle remains quite steep even after the riser pressure builds up to the max. (VX seems more similar to XF2 in this way) These are just my observations watching other people fly CB canopies, so please correct me if Im mistaken here.. I will gladly learn more
-
What altitude did they start their 270 ? With a 109 XF2 @ 1.8ish I start from 550ft (medium trunrate)
-
Exit shot from last weekend. I like the way it turned out, allthough I think I will start filming from the frontstep pretty soon.. This way you can get the passangers face better in the frame. NEED to have the 10mm for these shots. (even wider wouldnt be bad..)

about 37,5 USD on our DZ in Finland !

Safire II recovery arc at 1.4-1.45
BMFin replied to BlindBrick's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Surprisingly, on this thread Billvon describes the recovery arc as "long and predictable" He also said the Safire "had lower front riser pressure and stayed in the dive longer" than a similarly sized XF2 -
I agree.. Thats how it should be.. This has been discussed before and I will say it again. In reality most new A licence jumpers in US dont know how to pack.. The only reason for that is no one ever taught them.

last weekend in Hanko Finland.

I think the reason for such answers is that your question seems like you are asking how to swoop in general.. It is impossible to teach anyone how to swoop over internet. However, would your question have been more specific, Im sure there would be a lot of good answers here.

As promised - barber chair skydive
BMFin replied to crashtested's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Very nice !!! -
This could be true. Though it might be because HD tandems are very rare overall.. However, what is a fact is that online people are much safer skydivers. In real life the situation is much different. For example: How many people here on DZ.com has said backflying under tandems is dangerous and should never be done ? And how many cameraflyers frequently film tandems from underneath ? Now Im not really saying what is right and what is wrong. Im just saying it sounds a bit hypocrite ? Doesnt it ?

I also rate stills higher for sure, but that doesnt matter. Only thing that matters is how high the customer rates the video compared to the stills.. Our DZ charges the customer 50euros (78dollars) for video. We vidiots get 20euros worth of "jumpmoney". (not cash) On top of that some of the vidiots sell stills also. I just started doing stills and so far I have been asking 25 euros cash from a CD with around 50 pics. (I rather sell them CD without publishing rights, than go thru the hustle of printing) I also feel that the pics will sell themselves very well. However, I somehow feel like 25-30 euros is the max I want to ask them, since they are already paying 270 + 50 for the tandem + video.

Yeah.. Gays can be picky when it comes to choosing the right color

I am also intrested on hearing about IAD from caravan. Thanks !
