As far as I have understood a high guide number doesnt mean it will recycle any faster than a flash with lower guide number. The only thing the guide number tells is that the flash model with the higher guide number is capable of producing more light with the maximum setup. So basically I see it as the 430 and the 580 will recycle both as fast. How often do you guys use 1/1 manual setup with the 580 ? Only if you need to use FULL power then the guide number is beneficial.. But remember the recycle time with 1/1 power is approximately 6 seconds according to canons website. Then youll need a batterypack for more photos then just a few..

No offence taken at all. Dont worry. I just needed to correct your interpretation of my 1st post as you seemed to have misunderstood the point of it..

Thats filmed with the RED ONE. Not the scarlet..

I think you're mistaken if you believe you can get all the knowledge you need from a single class. While I've never attended any of Lugi's classes, I can say from my own experience both as a teacher, and a student, that you simply cannot cram years of knowledge into a single day, week, or even a month. It's pretty common for people to formulate better questions, and ideas, as they experiment with things they've been exposed to more. I see you deleted the part where I wrote I understand that the seek for knowlede should never end, but the advice given was clearly not understood here.. I never said you could cram years of knowledge into a single day. Agreed. I'm not sure why you feel this wasn't done here. The concepts I teach, regardless of canopy size, remain the same. They're abstract ideas who's implementation differs slightly from wing to wing, but conceptually what the pilot is trying to achieve, and should identify, stays the same. I disagree. Now I'm not saying they should be learning 450's under that size wing, but I believe the pilot can gain a solid foundation at that loading, or lighter. I think I would never teach someone flying a Sabre2 @ 1.2 that after completing rotation you should keep your canopy on a dive for 4 seconds and only after that leave the canopy to make its natural recovery.. It simply is not possible with a canopy such as this. And secondly I never stated that learning to swoop shouldnt be praticed with a sabre2 @ 1.2. I think its a very good choice in the early phase. I was only trying to say that you need to have a different technique with it compared to a Velo @ 2.5 You're focusing on the implementation, not the concept. The idea is that the pilot lets the wing recover as much as is efficient before performing input. That time will differ according to loading, canopy type and size, as well as speed. Yes I am focusing also on the implementation, which I think is the reason why the OP is unable to see the concept. (or at least not to apply it in real life) Plus the "4 second rule" here suggests a much different concept behind it than just "letting the wing recover as much as efficient before performing input." which is step 7. The 4 second rule was step 6.

Am I the only one to think the job was only half done since he now has to seek more advice from internet ? I understand that the seek for knowlede should never end, but the advice given was clearly not understood here.. I think the canopy coach should explain what are the major differences on low performance canopies and high performance canopies. Shurely they should be able to see where a specific student is at the moment and adapt their teching on this... I think teaching HP techique for someone flying a Sabre2 @ 1.2 isn´t exactly the best method for such a canopy.. I dont think I can keep my Xfire2 @1.8 in a dive for 4 seconds after my turn. It simply doesnt dive that much. It will recover even if I hang on the fronts with all my bodyweight.. Was I jumping a velocity or maby a katana.. Sure, then the 4 second rule might apply.

Olympus E4xx range a good intro to DSLR jumping?
BMFin replied to drunkenmunkey's topic in Photography and Video
Nope.. The 1000D is basically the 400D in a smaller body. The differences are that 1000D has live view and digic III processor. But has only 7point autofocus as the 400D has 9 point. There are no major differences with these two anyways. The 450D is a bit better camera for sure.. -
I can see my profile with Neptune. Oh.. ok ..guess I was mistaken.. But 60km/h ? were you jumping your wingsuit canopy ?
-
With the viso you are able to see max vertical speed under canopy. (I suppose its not possible with the neptune)

I think 2 way does definetly require more than VRW. In 2way freefly you these days the cameraflier plays a big part on flying the routine. Its not just capturing the dive, like it moreless is in VRW

Do DZ Liability Waivers Hurt the Sport?
BMFin replied to GLIDEANGLE's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I disagree. It wouldn´t be a problem if the judicial system would not acknowledge these type of prosecutions. That´s the "root evil" in this. -
I do use it. I never said I wouldn´t. Using it doesnt mean you would be logged in automatically. It only means the the username and password are auto-filled. It still takes those staggering 1,5 seconds to move your cursor over the "log in" button and press it.

Yeah, great site Dave ! Keep it up ! Logging in takes me 1,5 seconds. Definetly not a big deal..

Do DZ Liability Waivers Hurt the Sport?
BMFin replied to GLIDEANGLE's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I study law in Finland and in our legal system you can condone some things in beforehand, that otherwise would legimate you for recieving compensation. However the contract must be very precise on what is this you event will condone for. (also there are lots of things you cannot condone anyone doing for you.. for an extreme example kill you) There are other factors also involved. No way you could give your rights away in general to accept any wrong doing towards you in future. This type of conrtract would be void. Though it doesnt necessarily mean it wouldnt be taken into account when judging the possible negligence together with the actual event. I agree with anyone who thinks people should skydive on their own risk. This is self evident. It is however wrong to think that the waiver is somekind of magic piece of paper that grants the DZ to act as they please... The main funtion of a waiver is to efficiently bring the hazards of the sport to the skydivers consciousness in beforehand. And this is ofcourse one effective way to deduct the DZ´s liability in normal skydiving accidents. Nothing more nothing less.. -
Do DZ Liability Waivers Hurt the Sport?

Blame the court rulings, not the lawyers. -
the whole site is pretty funny Why do they actually call it air dynamic pipe ? rahter than wind tunnel ? The english seems as lame as if it was translated by google translator. Though funnily enough if you actually translate the site by google, the translation will be wind tunnel rather than air dynamic pipe From the russian version I could see that it is 4.1 meters in diameter.

The other incident is described here Basically the PC was kept in hand for a while and the loose bridle looped around the ringsite. It is rare but it can happen. Personally however, I wont take as much stress about the snaghazard as some of those jumpers who wrap their helmet full of gafferstape to seam all possible snag-places.. To me it just seems exaggerated. It helps being aware of the risks though..

This old video has been discussed here before and yes it is a fake. Its actually a commercial for telecommunications operator if I remember right... You can clearly see after he tosses the fake PC the video cuts and is faked...

Let me tell you a similar story: Empuria in 2007 and we were entering the skyvan they had acquired for the busy easter boogie. During the day people were landing off suprisigly often. The thing is in empuria that they fly the jumprun always northbound because the city is located on the southside of the airfield and this prevents people from ending up over the city. On the north side theres room for landing off and therefore ending up there is safer... So, as we entered the plane we asked the pilot if we could have two jumpruns. Immedietly the pilot answered no very stern and was not willing to discuss the matter any further. On the way up fellow jumper (very experienced 7000+ jumps) suggested it might be better to not jump this skyvan anymore since it might jeopardize our safety. Later that day one Norvegian jumper got killed when he landed out, hit a tree and ruptured his aorta ! After that load the DZ didnt want to stop operation, but suprisingly none of the licenced jumpers no longer wanter to fly the skyvan so it was from thereon flying tandems only. The next day the skyvan was not flying just two jumpruns but actually three jumpruns !!! Its a shame it takes someone to loose their life for the DZ to realize the priorities, and that safety should come before business and its efficiency. Who knows how long it takes for them to remeber this lesson ? Maby after time it will be forgotten and to fly 2 jumpruns are again being refused constantly..

Well, Im sure he died happy ! Looks like a blast !

Nice ! Did you manage not to kill anyone with it ?

Is that all Europeans, or are Canadians excluded? I guess it only applies to French Canadians..

From the SIM: Section 2: Basic Safety Requirements and Waivers Ummmm.... okay. I guess in your world all words that start with "r" mean the same thing? Dude... If you are tempted to quote a book, read the fucking book first, eh? Otherwise you might look like a fool. I think what he ment was that USPA BSR´s are not the law. So unless the DZ wants to follow USPA guidelines and stay as a USPA member DZ they are not binded by those requirements. Wether they are called requirements or recommendations has little importance here.. (correct me if im mistaken)

He's been sued many times. Out of all the possible qualifications to give legal advice this has to be the best I have ever heard !!!

Well, in that case luckily you have the second amendment (right to keep and bear firearms) which to my experiense is very much materialized in the US.. Maby you need to utilize those firearms and topple those vultures from their monarchy and tyranny and form a new free and democtaric nation.. ?
