I see you must have misunderstood my phrase "inside flying". With that phrase I dont mean tunnel flying, I mean anytype of multiwayskydiving where the main funtion of the freefall is not to capture video and/or shoot stills. The main funtion is to participate on the way as anyother flier, merely capturing what is there to capture.. Outside flying on the other hand means that your main purpose is to capture video and / stills. Outside flier wont normally take part on the way it salf. His job is to fly where he feels he can get the best shot outside the group.

Nice! Few things popped my mind.. How cool would it be to have a bounce box on the master flash + some other guy flying a slave flash from let say 90 degree angle from the side.. (maby a bit below) This way the light would be much softer and wouldnt be so "hard" as it is here. Might create a really cool effect.. Also maby white jump suit might work better than black.. Anyways really Cool and unique photos . Something I have to try sometimes also.. I guess you were shooting manual focus right ?

yeah.. looks like a stall..

Well IMO: -Optik illusion or similar, if you plan to fly inside freefly with the camera(s). -FTP in case you´ll be only flying outside camera IMO the optik illusion (or a similar design) is more versitale in a way that allows you to do both. FTP IMO wont be so comfortable for inside freefly or any inside flying but, has more real estate to mount a flash next to the cameras plus some other extras you might want to add.. Also a possibility to keep the invertigo for inside fun stuff, and get a FTP for serious outside camera jumps..

How much does your DZ charge for Hop and Pops?
BMFin replied to Skyvixen's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
By the way.. What are the rules concerning swooping in Lodi at the moment ? Is it allowed from a lower jumprun ? -
Well it is a bit heavier if you compare it to a plastic 400D or similar. 400D : 556g or 19.6oz 5DMII : 850g or 30oz Its not that much anyway. 300 grams. IMO The amount of picture quality easily outweighs the extra weight even if comparing the old 5D and 400D. Dont you think so ? What camera would you rather choose ?

I dont know any percentages of skydiving photographers in general, but I do use AF (ai servo) I also know that quite a few photographers on this forum have reported to use AF also. Im definetly not an expert on this subject, but in a nutshell I would say the more compressed the data is the more you loose in quality in general..

Yeah.. You cant record movie while taking stills though. It is possible to take stills while recording video, but the camera will pause the video rec for the time it takes to shoot the stills. Also the camera keeps focusing while recording video. Focusing will be based on contrast. It could be that the video feature on this one isnt a complete joke afterall. Sure it takes QT format, but you can actually produce quite professional looking footage with the variety of lenses and the possibility for controlling the Depth of field !! Theres not much difference with the 1DsMIII which is significantly more expensive. We shall see how the AF works in the 5D, since I have heard theres some problems with the 1DsM3 AF..

Havent done any statistics, but most news photographers I have seen, were shooting 5D.

It is also directed towards journalists.. Im sure some of them could use faster than 4fps ..

Here it is: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0809/08091705canon_5dmarkII.asp The only thing that seems even a little bit disapointing at 1st glance is the slowish 3,9 frames/sec speed. Anyways, seems like its the best SLR suitable for skydiving..

LOL I think that through the last couple of messages peggs82 was trying to ask how come you recieved the XSi allthough you lost a 40D ? I must admit Im confused too.. , Since to me it seems like you recieved both XSi and the 40D ? Anyways. Seems quite unusual malfunction from the way I read it.. Glad you are allright..

Yeah,... thats true, but once you get there u have a nice bokeh and very sharp pictures. (and the lens isnt that heavy either) Now Imaginge shooting a 5D + 1.4extender + EF 70-200/2.8 L IS USM @ 200mm PLUS a gyrostabilizer and shooting all that hand held aiming through the viewfinder.. Jussi Laine does this at our club. The pictures are pretty amazing. Quite different from what you normally come across.. EDIT:Attached photo (without the gyro)..

Did you yell OUT OF MY WAY !!!
-
So how often do you need to yell to someone under canopy ?
-
I have and I know how it is. You have to be quite close. Second of all, to me it seems difficult to come up with even a theoretical (not to speak of a likely) scenario where you would actually NEED to talk to someone while under canopy. Point taken. Suggestion to resolve the problem: Ask your buddy to inform you any piece of info if necessary. "I would like to focus on my skydive by listening some music, would it be possible you inform me if theres any info given out. Lots of people wear ear plugs in the plane AND in freefall. You consider that hazardous ? Now Im not saying the OP should start listening his Ipod for quite a while. Keeping things simple in the start is definetly a good idea. For more experienced it might not be such a big issue.. I dont know ? Im merely trying to approach this question with logic and common sence rather than just intuition and preconception..

I have to ask you how often do you actually need to communicate in FF or under canopy to prevent an accident? I have never "needed" to communicate even under canopy. Sure I have done it when flying "crw"-for fun after a skydive, but most of the time we wont hear what the other guy is saying.. Under my bonehead optik I dont think I will hear you under canopy unless you are flying next to me and yelling LOUD..

How many jumps on the lineset ? Personally I just changed my lower steering lines, though my lines overall seem still fine. The guide ring creates a lot of rubbing in the break locking loop area and to me it just seems that its exactly the part of a line set that wears out quickest.. At the time I yet dont constantly plane out with rears so snapping a toggle during the plane out phase might be pretty messy.. And yeah I agree.. Could have been much worse, than just a femur.

Well I guess the spring 2007 event was quite different then. There was no groups put together what so ever in this event. Generally everyone was jumping among their own firends. And as I described, on every load one of the "organizers" attended one group as an outside. I would have been so pleased if there were any groups formed what so ever. Though I must admit, I managed to recieve one organized atmo-dive from Stephane Fardel (+ Simon H. from Ireland) after I had been asking and asking the organizers for 3 days to organize something more advanced than just zoo diving.. It was a great jump. Other than that the more advanced dives I had were with the locals who werent attending go vertical and those we did from the otter. I also found Tim as a very nice guy, neither I have nothing against any other organizer in this event. I just felt the organizing wasnt very active. I believe this could vary by the event, since looking at the videos from other goverticals it looks like they actyally had some workshops and groups put together. Also friends of mine have reported that the norwegian go verticals have been very succesfull and the level of flying looks much more advanced..

So are you saying that flying a pattern for 270 limits your visibility somehow ? EDIT: I get also frustrated sometimes when a jumper exiting after me spirals down and after 1000 feet starts flying a straight in approach under me. But heres the important part: We have separate landing area for swoopers so normally this isnt a problem, since most of the time the swoop area is only used by swoopers.. I would highly recommed you guys establish a separate swoop area too ( unless you are a 182 DZ or similar..)

I would really apprechiate if you could upload a small clip of video uncompressed.. (in freefall)

Well this is definetly irrelevant to this topic, but a lot of times rain on the ground is "ice" in the air..As you might know it is often quite cold at altitude and the freezing point of water is lower at lower air pressure.. Definetly rare to hit a hail storm like this, but often I have seen ice in freefall and yet I havent been bleeding.. Ice might be a bit more rare in Cali though ... Definetly Cool Pics anyway..

Very nice pics.. Love the foot mount ! May I ask how did you release the shutter ? I cant see a trigger in your hands nor in your mouth.. Also what equipment did you use ?
