You have already gotten good advice, the only thing I will add is if you decide to jump with a camera suit, pay attention to how the wings can interfere with your deployment, a friend of mine almost went in four years ago when he jumped a camera suit with large wings, they blew over the hackey, making it very difficult to get, and he farted around with it waaaaaay too long.... plus they can restrict your grab on the risers during deployment blues; Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... Hey. I'm curious as to how one gets that requirement waived. I thought I read the SIM and IRM pretty in-depth, but I must have missed where it says jumpers still on student status can jump with someone who is not even coach rated. Could you please explain how one does that? *** each dz can adjust the ISP to suit its needs, if they dont require the "jumpmaster" to hold a coach rating then unless I misunderstood something, they dont need it. this is a public thank you to odendan, he has been harping on me to pull the slider down, and to land using the rear risers for several months. I admit, I am old school, and quite resistant to change, I was getting decent speed and distance out of the canopy without it and thought....what for? This last weekend I figured out how to stow the excess brake line so I could pull the slider down without kinking the excess and then about six jumps practicing up high, Upon pulling the slider down I found it changed a few things in respect to how the canopy flew, it was more sensitive to harness shifts, and the front riser pressure is heavier. I finally got the nads to try a rear riser swoop, end result......poor aproach, I was paying way too much attention to the new characteristics of the canopy.......nearly a 90 degree right turn to avoid the road, and then a high speed stall on rear risers....... ouch.... lol, but now....I got a taste of the benifits of using the rears and where to drop them and go to toggles........ so up again for another try, with a better setup. end results, I shoulda listened months ago......I managed to bang out three really good swoops in a row, another weekend of jumping and I may be ready to attack the gates again.... we will see Am I the only old fart here who forgets from time to time to listen? knock it off, or you will find other stressfull situations that will induce you to smoke, like rush hour traffic, a fight with your girlfriend, ...... and sooner or later, slowly, you will become a full time smoker. paying a rediculous amount of money each year to kill yourself........ save the money for something safer......JUMPS Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... an eliptical wing "should" outperform a non-elip, to me it sounds like you are just more in tune with the characteristics of the sabre than you are the stilleto, or else the lines on the stilleto are really out of trim. next jump look up and check to see if you have a nice bow in the brake lines, if they are too short, you will come out of the dive faster and the surf will be shorter. about 5 years ago I bought a used stilletto with 1500 jumps on the lineset and then put 500 more on it before changing the lines, once the new lines were on, it handled completely different. took a bit of getting used to, but it did surf better after the new lines were installed, and its not very expensive. In 6+ years of racing M/C and almost 20 in parachute testing, I have yet to find anything that WD-40 is really good for. *** You have more time in skydiving than I do, I will grant you that, but I have over 20 yrs experience in motorcross and hare scrambles racing, It workes well for cables and chains, So this is another example of people having different opinions. Tracking in particular = less free fall time. *** Actually, if you have a fast-flat track, you will have more freefall time than if you just fell belly to earth. It's my radio anyway, so back up or not, I have it, and won't hesitate to use it if I feel it's warranted.
