now your comparing different circumstances.... would you rather go out in public looking fat in a dress that is to small or have your SO tell you it looks bad so you can change? how about a closer example... a deliivery truck loses flowers outside your house, your SO picks them up and gives them to you with the lie "i was thinking of you and thought they might brighten your day so i bought them" he is claiming motivations that did not exist.. it creates a false picture for you with the intention of showing him in better light... he wasnt thinking of you at all till the moment he saw the flowers in the street, but circumstance and the lie make you believe he was... sure it might brighten your day to believe he was really motivated to take time out of his day and buy you flowers, and makes a better impression than "i found them in the street" but it undermines a basic trust when the delivery guy comes by an hour later looking for them... but then maybe he wont... and maybe you'll never know that your SO lies to you on a whim simply to make a better impression give me the truth over a pretty illusion every day... there is enough real beauty in the world without lying to create it... note: this is completely hypothetical.. no actual event, personal reference intended ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

because the image was beautiful in and of itself without embellishment... the lie to make it more so (in the minds of the gullible) only taints it.. honestly you'd have to completely unobservant to not recognize the dog is clean while the fireman is not... legends have generally have a story, a moral and didactic purpose behind them... how exactly does pretending the dog was being 'grateful' add to the photograph? i guess some people will always prefer hallmark platitudes to reality Truth? its a principle. when you compromise your principles they become meaningless. Every lie you tell (no matter how innocent it seems) makes your word suspect.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

is pissing me off... i was enjoying the series so far... then they start with the pseudo-science about radar..... i guess 'wuffos' would never know otherwise but the way they are abusing how weather radar works and what it can and cant detect is simply ridiculous... CSI gets equally silly everytime they say 'can you enhance' security camera footage... shows like this would be soooo much better if they stuck to facts to make their plots, but writing for the lowest common denominator makes more money....wouldnt want viewers to have to learn anything... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

what good? the 'good' you are defending is in fact a lie.. the picture was beautiful without embellishment, by adding an untruth it becomes less beautiful, the lie demeans what is present naturally do you not see the inherent wrong in that? would you like your SO lie to impress you? every little chip undermines the pillar, no matter how harmless it may seem at the time... look for what it true and real, it certainly exists without well meaning falsehoods... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

no its hammered typing and basic ennui about hitting the spell check button.. but the fact that you clearly understood what 'signifier' i intended proves my point... So much folklore offers as "fact" that violent deaths cause the spirits of those killed to haunt the places where they died, or the objects associated with them. And I agree with you -- if that were true, instead of quaint myth, then the world would be awash in spirit activity, for there is nary a place where someone hasn't died, it seems. And Europe would report a FAR higher parapsychological activity level than anywhere else would. I don't know that they do not, but I haven't heard that they do. Your artifacts give lie to that notion, don't they? Swords that have been used in lethal battle that don't bear the spirits of those they killed... imagine that. Takes the wind out of the sails of those who "want to believe." i've a friend that spent a month in dresden looking for signs of exactly that sort of thing.... he claims some interesting 'results', he also spends the majority of his vacations visiting haunted sites... i'm agnostic on the issue really.. its certainly possible that some people are more sensitive so whatever impressions might be left by such events.. its also possible that conditions may exist that could amplify this phenomena, but despite a strange experience or two i have yet to see anything i would qualify as 'proof'. If it is a 'random' occurance, or can only be observed by those with senses we havent quantified yet it is very difficult to make any authoritive conclusions.. also a problem exists whenever anyone brings 'God' into the issue, as they then presuppose an underlying 'system' that has the exact same problems as the events and impressions they are trying to 'fit' into it... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

doesnt bother me at all..death is a part of life...if you have that kind of phobea you should think about everyone who has died who has touched the same ground as you... i have someone's skull on a shelf behind me (i'd love to know who's so it would have a real name) and 1 sword and 2 firearms that have very likely been involved in fatalities.. (the sword i know was used in a fatal duel in 1853) both the firearms are war relics.... i also have several other items that were owned by people who have since left us... they remind me of the impermanence of life and are a way to remember my friends who have passed.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

You know, it's okay to let people smile about a heartwarming story without making it your personal goal to disillusion them. Once in a while, it's really okay. illusions are very rarely good things... miss representing the truth is always a bad thing, no matter how good the intentions... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

as ive said before if you cant tell the difference between 'your' and 'youre' based soley on context you need an eye exam, and better critical reading skills, apostrophes are archaic and unnecessary 98% of the time. ALL grammar and spelling 'standards' come from usage, those who demand hard coded standardization are the ones who need such crutches we are not machines the ability to adapt and infer is what makes us different. but then your simply defending the standards mandated by your profession.. youre wrong, but i understand your viewpoint.. do we still use Old English spelling and grammar?? why not? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

to bad we wasted so much time, energy and lives on a country that wasnt actually a threat...but i guess thats what happens when your leadership only sees what they wish to see.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Dale Earnhardt Jr... I was actually introduced to Airspeed that way, but honestly it gets me more attention than i care for in the south ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

no. comprehension is all that matters as spelling is based entirely on usage.. those who stubbornly cling to 'accepted standards' simply cannot accept that what they believe to be a 'standard' can and will change. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

I like to run and take a flying leap onto them, and they would probably be ok for jumping from the second story except that the layout of our living room has several things that you could possibly hit if you bounced off (though I guess I don't really bounce at all when I land on them). They are great for sleeping on, as well as other things... Now if they would just make one with attachment points... ropes running underneath work very nicely... you can secure opposite limbs and they are very easy to cinch for tension.. i wouldnt jump from higher than 10 feet onto mine.. i did one full front flip onto it and felt the floor underneath me (and popped a seam on the cover.. luckly it was the spare and not the plush purple one) but belly landings dont seem to be a problem.... of course you are a good bit smaller and lighter than i so..... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

unfortunately this trait applies to females as well... i'd run out of fingers if i counted the nubmer of females i know who wait until they have their next 'meal ticket' lined up before they break up with their last.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

I always knew Greg Gasson was cool, but President of the Universe? visually i loved the movie.. lots of homage paid the the various incarnations.. (i think i have nearly every thing DA has written, radio scripts and all) but there really wasnt any way to make it align with the book versions... even the books are terrible from a plot point (until you get to Fish..) because they were written as episodes and Douglas was making it up every week without much preplanning at all... the entire bit with John Malkovich could have been left out, but i can see how/why they did it... tying in the original device to connect the books would have been VERY VERY difficult without alot of side narratives and flashbacks... Ford was perfect.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Afganistan could have SUCH an awesome heli-skiing and BASE industry... maybe in 20 years when it joins the rest of the 'modern world' ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

not even close.... This is gonna be one of those "We have to agree to disagree" things. your view has the same problem as those who use the 'safer than driving' fallacy.. perhaps you'd should look at it on a per min of exposure basis.. because you are simply mistaken... professional football players are rarely trying to hurt each other... sure there are alot of impacts, but they are very controlled, highly trained impacts with the intent of doing as little actual damage as possible...its not 'very very hard' its very very easy and very well practiced in comarison to ANYTHING you do while skydiving... contact that has the potential to harm is penalized on a team level and so is culturally discouraged.. no one wants to endanger each others million dollar pension... if you were talking about rugby you MIGHT have a case, but even then, on a per min of exposure basis the numbers dont support your perception of relative safety.. even a junior league foot ball player spends more time in practice and training per day than the average skydiver does per year... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Sade has one of the most amazing voices in modern music and the production on her albums is equally incredible... i know several operatic metal singers who regularly listen to her for inspiration and ideas...... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

On 6-6-66 I was little I didn't know shit and on 7-7-77 eleven years later still don't know any better by 8-8-88 it's way too late for me to change and by 9-9-99 I hope I'm sittin' on the back porch drinkin' red wine singin' Ohhhhhh French Fries with Pepper! under strict definition if she doesnt stop yes it is... being in a relationship doesnt change the definition of 'rape' still i tend to agree, an adult male who who reports a 'freebee' from a female who he knowingly allowed into his home for a bj is (imo)a wuss... every issue should always be dealt with at the lowest level possible.... filing charges in such an instance is simply a gross over reaction... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

fairly common undercover technique... much less useful since its been used several times on TV in recent years... what is stupid is a strictly enforced dress code does very little of the things that video claims.. it simply changes the means and methods used on all counts... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

yea its been known to happen... meet a girl in a bar, start talking to her, some other guy overhears part of the conversation and chimes in with "yea?well I....." Hmm, I don't think I've ever had a guy hit on me by coming up to me in a bar and start telling me what kind of kinky stuff he's into... more of a conversational drift... lately i've discovered myself in the middle of some of the strangest coversations with people i just met...but then maybe i'm hanging out in the wrong (or right) kinds of bars.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
