1. i take pride in the things i do, the way i was raised and, in the way i behave in the face of adversity. not in the circumstances of my birth... taking pride in the simple fact that you were born american is as silly as taking pride in the fact that you happen to be male... some days i'm actually disgusted with the both of those simple facts because of the way americans and males behave..... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

only if you know NOTHING about actual sword work.. there are subtle elements of several advanced kata in the original Ep VI fight between Vader and Obi Wan, it is literally an engagement between masters with Obi Wan giving Vader and intentional opening that he takes (and so unknowingly loses because of) i took a portion of my juniors fencing class to Ep I when it came out.. even children with less than 6 months fencing time recognized how silly and contrived fight scenes were, and they have only gotten worse since..... Lucas should have recognized that his original fan base has grown up since the first movie and could have easily added the kind of subtle details that would have, should have made the series a classic... instead he merely 'kept pace' with the latest special effects wizardry, pandered to blatant marketing opportunity, did little to inspire his later actors to their character motivations and so lost the core directing sensibility that the generations since have maintained in other genres... my grandkids (if i ever have them) wont be talking about Star Wars.. because the fans and generations he originally inspired will have far surpassed him in the basic story telling ability and the subtlety to tell it well in a manner that makes people want to watch it again and again to discover the nuances.... he set himself a high bar with iv-vi, and IMO failed to reach it with i-iii... 4. nope. it's YOUR parachute you are jumping and YOUR ass you are saving... if you cant take the time to actually pack your chute and then dont take the time to do the very basics (set your brakes) dont expect them to do it for you.. the slider is a different animal as it is right in the packers face and is easily included as part of the process, but still if you are to lazy to unstow it before you take your rig off...... brakes are not... if you watch a professional packer who is packing for multiple jumper at a turbine DZ you'll see that having to stop and set the brakes for a jumper who was to lazy, or to stupid to do it themselves SIGNIFICANTLY slows down the process.. on a slow day i can see it, maybe as a matter of courtesy, ONCE...but i've also seen a jumper get REALLY pissed at the packer when he came back 30 min later to discover his chute was lying off to the side unpacked and he was on a 10 min call... apparently he expected the packer to drop everything else and hunt him down to tell him he didnt stow his brakes.... i use packers often, i always stow my brakes after landing (its less messy to carry and prevents the whole twisted lines) unstow my slider before i take the rig off, and often cock the pilot chute if the packer is really busy... these 3 'minor' details to help insure MY life is that much safer and significantly ease the work load on the packer... if you do it as part of your normal ritual it is never a problem, but expecting a packer to break THEIR normal ritual when all you are paying for is really putting the chute in the bag and the container is bullshit... if you habitually forget to stow/unstow your brakes & slider you'll likely be looking for a new packer... and should probably be looking for a new sport as well... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

stunning visual special effects did not make up for bad dialogue and bad acting.. while the achievement itself is amazing I find it pretty sad that the best, most believable performance came from a CGI muppet more attention could have certainly been paid to the details... travel times/distances between planets were amazingly convenient... i was also VERY disappointed in the blade work... with the exception of the final fight between Vader and Obi Wan, it didnt look like they'd even rehearsed their sword play.. it was quite obvious when the actors were simply not up to par and Lucas attempted to substitute quick cuts and obscure angles for actual ability… (Samuel Jackson and the entire arrest scene with the Emperor) EP IV (and Sword Master Bob Anderson) were the original inspiration for me to begin studying fencing and later kendo, i was pretty disgusted with the broom swinging antics Nick Gillard put together... even the pseudo chinese sword play and the obvious openings it created for the 'show' aspect from Ep I were better... while it was certainly the best of the recent three, it also seemed clear to me that Lucas has long since lost his original insight and flair for character development (contrast Luke’s struggle thru IV-VI with Vader’s easy fall), believable plot and dialogue that made the 'middle' three movies great..... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
6. Can´t argue with that one. i can.. and i'll point to the "you need to eat more" thread as to why you are simply wrong.. she's has good tone on her arms and legs, and a nice hip to waist ratio... not 'to skinny' at all.... this one on the other hand... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

13. oh well... if you think making it 'mandatory' would change things you havent spent much time attempting to educate people... those who wish to learn, can, will and do... those who do not will never. No matter what the rules or how many hours of training you make them sit through... changing the culture, by making training and education "Cool" and pointing out the failures as why it is a good idea will do FAR more than making it a "regulation" i'm all for more indepth CC instruction at each stage of the licensing process, based on casual observation my AFF instructors taught me ALOT of things that were not mandated as part of the course... but making it a 'box to check' to get signed off for any given wingloading will simply increase the number of "pencil whipped" requirement that occur everywhere everyday... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

17. the only reason it becomes an issue at all is because of jealousy and an immature attitude toward sex. Adults (or even mature teenagers) who are capable of separating the purely physical and highly enjoyable act of sex from a commitment have no issues with the occasional roll in the sack... only when immaturity and basic jealousy enter the picture does such physical contact become an issue… if you are capable of separating the two (i.e. your mind controls your feelings and actions instead of your hormones) sex between friends is one of the best things in the entire world….a simple enjoyable release without messy entanglements. As long as you are not committed to another what difference does it make?? Would you be skittish about giving your friend a backrub?? If you are you might what to examine your REAL motivations… Denying your desire is a sign of immaturity.. being incapable of dealing with a friend you have had sex with on a non sexual level equally so…. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
18. Damn, I can so relate to this. I have a ton of guy friends, most are very attractive, but I am not interested in going "THERE".... But damn people like to talk and "invent" stories, what is so wrong with a girl having male friends? absolutely nothing, but it doesnt change the way men are wired...its sort of like seeing a mountain every day and never wondering what is on the otherside... if you are a guy that just doesnt happen... you may never cross the mountain, but you still wonder..... 95% is low.. unless the 5% is gay... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

20. Nonsense, all they have to do is vote "No". Then the canidate is dead in the water. They can use the fact that in this case without a few Dem votes these appointees are going nowhere. That is enough to give them barganing power. Since an apointment takes 60% voting "No" is just as effective as a filibuster. not true..... judicial confirmation requires a simple majority (51 votes) so if they allowed the vote to proceed, and voted "No" the candidates they consider completely unacceptable will STILL be confirmed... removing the filibuster places ALL of the power in the hands of the majority... it as not as if the Dems are preventing EVERY confirmation (most have gone thru without issue) but by renominating judges previously deemed unacceptable Bush is stating he is unwilling to compromise…. Which of course sets the stage for the real issue, the SCOTUS nomination, Since then we are talking about a life time appointment that has long lasting effects on the 'attitude' of the judicial branch, compromise is the only reasonable course...something the extreme elements of the GOP has indicated they are unwilling to do... filibuster IS the only method available to prevent those confirmations if (and it is nearly a given on the confirmations themselves, (it is the vote on the “nukular” option is questionable as many on both sides DO see the long term effects of such a decision) the vote falls out on party lines the ability to filibuster changes LOTS of things.. even the threat of it has and does (as is intended) force compromise and it has been used by BOTH sides (we really need more than two sides for the system to work as designed but that has not been the case for a loooong time) in the past when they were the minority and it suited their ends to do so… even the consideration of the ‘nukular’ option shows how extreme some elements of the GOP have become in pushing thru their single sided view ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
21. actually it is a fundamental parliamentary procedure, and while i agree it should be based on substantive debate, it is a VERY necessary ability to protect the power of the minority in our system.. by removing it you completely remove any ability the minority has to force a compromise, and that is the intent in the first, to force compromise... if the republicans go ahead with the 'nuklear' option it will have long lasting effects on how the senate operates.. in effect there will be no point in minority participation as the majority will have the ability to push thru whatever it wishes whenever it wishes... this applies to BOTH sides of the current debate, but the necessity of filibuster and the reasoning behind it would be MUCH more obvious if our system had not denigrated into a simple two party conflict that was never intended by our founders... "stalling" unto the point of your opponents frustration is hardly 'stupid'. in fact it is a GREAT tactic to wear down the opposition when the odds otherwise indicate you will simply lose on all fronts... ever been involved in a team fencing event? there is a reason you send an obviously weaker opponent against someone he/she has no chance of defeating in a stand up fight...the weaker opponent then fences not to win, but to exhaust... by wearing down the strongest in a 'minor' engagement you force them to change tactics and increase your odds in the broader conflict that you would most likely lose if fought in an "up front" manner. This increases your odds overall of winning at a team level... in reference to the Senate, the use of the filibuster forces the opposition to compromise and while taking MUCH longer than strictly necessary under 'normal' situation results in a better out come for everyone... the “team” in this case is the country as a whole case, not the politicians with their own political agendas as the moderate position (which is really that of the majority when political affilation is removed) is better represented when a simple political majority is unable dictate its whims to all... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
22. tighten up the strap... i used mini Flex-Zs primarly with contacts till i found some Gatorz that fit well... Sorz never seemed to stay tight enough and i lost 2 contacts while wearing them.... but if the airflow from Flex-Zs is bothering you IME your not going to find Gatorz that work very well either... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
23. what is truely sad is that people still buy this excuse, when the evidence has shown it to be a complete fabrication... the war in Afghanistan 'started' Sept 12th... where are the majority of our troops?? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
24. well the label "christian" for people who accept Jesus as the Messiah. If there's some zealots & nutcases out there, just remember that a large part of Christ's early ministry concerned people who follow the letter of God's law, but not its spirit. ie, they follow all the ceremonies, but do so in prideful way, & the way they deal with others shows that they are actually cold-hearted bigots. oh i completely agree... but would add that (IME) there are far more 'members of a christian church' than there are actual christians.. it isnt the teachings of christ that are the problem, it is what the church has done with them in the name of power, influence and control for the last 2000 years.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
25. you shouldnt, but you should be aware they lump you under their banner and count you as a card carrying member when they lobby for things like this Kanas sillyness.. i am fortunate enough to know a number of 'christians' who will accept that the bible isnt the 'be all end all' in divine words and that there is a great deal of wisdom and truth in other religions..they are the minority... if i had a nickle for every 'christian' who has told me i was "wrong, damned and going to hell" for not believing every single word of their literature as the "One True Way" i wouldnt be at work today, or any day in the last several years.... if i were you, as a rational being, i'd be looking for a 'title' other than 'christian' because the zealots and nutcases have long since coopted your religion for themselves... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
