See I kinda disagree, but it is a matter of definition. You can KNOW how to do something, but not be able to do it....I have tons of AFF level 1's that KNOW that have to arch and to pull, but they don't do it. EXPERIENCE in my not so humble opinion requires doing it, not just knowing it. semantics perhaps, but i wouldnt call that "knowing". Instead i would say they are "aware" of what they need to do... you do not know anything until you demonstrate you can put your awareness into action.. experience is part of the process of training yourself to perform what you are aware of.. as far as numbers.. they are simply accumulation of individual events, they do not imply knowledge, competence or what i would define as 'real' experience. there is a saying about USFK that i think applies "How long have we been in Korea? 50 years, but we keep repeating the same year everytime." imo What you do with each individual occurrence, how you apply the lessons and observations from each previous occurrence to the next, how much each occurrence varied from the others, as well as what other 'indirect sources' of information you bring to bear towards the next occurrence has more to due with "Skill and Experience" than the simple accumulation of jumps... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

This is the only portion of your post i really disagree with.. our military leaders did not decide on a course of action. It was dictated to them by the elected 'leadership'. Many of whom have NO military experience and yet decried, near slandered and removed from position those military leaders who disagreed with their preconceived objectives (and they WERE preplanned and preconceived, there is ample evidence to support their predefined objectives in the region, (which is entirely different from saying the manufactured evidence of WMD so dont bother)) when they were told of the REAL cost and timelines that would be required. We HAD International support after 9/11 to fight the war started by it.. In AFGANISTAN, but instead we invade Iraq prematurely and take a short sighted 'go it alone' approach that has come back to haunt us.. We are single-handedly sustaining and paying for the situation in Iraq. A more deliberate approach, one that built a REAL Coalition (instead of the token support we have) and finances necessary to sustain an invasion, if it was ultimately determined to be necessary, would have left us in a position militarily and economically to deal with unexpected natural disasters such as Katrina as well as other potential military threats and circumstances. Before anyone starts this isnt "arm chair quarter backing" or "20/20 hindsight" it is flat out in your face, WE TOLD YOU SO AND WERE IGNORED AND/OR FIRED because it didnt fit with the administrations agenda. and it IS a clear and ultimately painful example of the piss poor planning, and lack of leadership, and shortsighted, bullheaded determination to see only what they wished to on the part of this administration. We are fucked, we cannot get out without making a larger mess and we are to far down the rabbit hole economically to recover in the near term, a situation that could have easily been avoided had GWB and his appointed advisors simply listened to the REAL experts instead of firing them. How much of DS did we pay for? How much of OIF are we paying for? Why? Because there was a clear justification for former and little but Flag waving speeches and unsubstantiated claims for the later. It sucks to say I told you so, but the weakness of a democracy is being ‘led’ by those who the lowest common denominator likes best… Would you get in a plane (without a chute) flown by a democratically elected pilot? i think (actually i know, i've done it several times as i travel a lot) i'd have put the arm rest back down and explained politely to the woman that I paid for this tiny bit of space on this aircraft and that she paid for her own tiny space and emphasize that as i dislike flying in planes i cannot jump out of, I am not inclined to share my space with her.. absofuckinglutely, fatasses should be required to buy additional seating to fit their bulk.. it is simply arsine that i have to pay $50 for being 1lb over 70 with my bag while the 300lb behemoth pays the same airfare as my narrow 190lb ass and then believes their mass entitles them to impose themselves on me as well.. fuck! that! when it happens, i bitch, i bitch politely but loudly, and i usually get upgraded to 1st Class because of the airlines 'oversight'. their weight is not and should never be my problem.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
