3. up until the point he broke into the house and robbed a store there was no problem at all. the story is sad (pathetic might be a better word) however 'social darwinism' would rather quickly weed out those who could not cope. Would there be personal carnage involved? absolutely? many individuals and the families that depend on them would suffer a trama, however that is not societies responsibility, that is the pervue of the individual and their family. strong support structures and individuals will survive the most tramatic of events and still prosper, the less able will simply vanish beneath the waves.. you may blame the drugs for his actions and they are definately a contributing factor, however the individual is (or should be at least) responsible for themselves and their families, putting that burden on society only equals oppression for those able to function without such draconian controls.. actually the 'uptopian police' would probably be more responsive to such occurances. With personal responsibility as the primary controlling force i believe that more individuals would push the evelopes and be punished until they learned the limits, each generation having its group of 'renegades' needing to see how far they can go.. obviously in a society where personal responsibility is a priorty, education would have to be rather high as well. no more coddling to the lowest common denominator to determine what is socially acceptable. Turn socialism on its head. "From each according to thier means, to each according to their abilities.." 5. hmm..old wounds but, mostly healed so... literally my life (at the time) fell apart..a particularly nasty case of crossed and chaotic signals..i flew someone i had been seeing on and off for some 4 years, out there while i was working in Carson City for a few months, to wander and play and ask her to marry me. (un)fortunately it just completely blew apart, and changed my path, again….but i dont know that i would have ever started skydiving, or reached the (relatively) happy place i am now if things had gone more as i planned... sometimes I wonder if I would trade the sky for life with her, and I’m just not the same person I was to really know.. havent been back since, but i expect i will be at some point to haunt myself and jump at Tahoe..(another bad memory spot) ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

8. ah but the problem there is with the enforcement of laws soley designed to protect us from ourselves. I feel for the officers (of all types) who many have been harmed doing their jobs. (who could possiblly be related to me) however the law is at fault for their injuries, not the end users. The users never gave the order to search that car, or put the cop that criminalizes otherwise law abiding citizens. how about we hold the law makers responsible for all the crimes inadvertantly commited because they refuse to trust citizens to make decisions on their own..same logic. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
9. oh no! dont give up! that is exactly the point. true religion (anyones) is a matter of faith.. the only sin is in blindly accepting someone else 'truth' about divinity, not looking critically, for yourself, with your own eyes, and interpretations, question the 'facts' as they are presented to you and come to your own conclusions on the nature of god. if he/she is out there and cares to show you you will find enlightenment, without the need for anyone elses dogmas or control... the answer is in the seeking.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

11. absolutely! the key is holding the individuals responsible for their actions irregardless of the mental state or toxicology levels. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
12. really? and what leads you to believe that god had any hand in it? Because you cannot explain it? why one person lives and another dies?? What you are experiencing is the exact reason why man creates gods to begin with, to explain that which he is afraid of or does not understand. Earth quakes, floods, fires…etc, what you call a miracle can usually be traced to actually physical causes assuming there is enough documented evidence to investigate. Unless you see the hand of god reach down and catch someone, you are only giving a name to an event not easily explained some would call the smile of a child, or the smell of summer grass miracles and therefore evidence of god, and for that individual they are. However none of those events actually qualifies under the strict definition of 'evidence' when used in an empirical manner. Also when you label such events as evidence of god, do you include which god may or may not be responsible? Yahweh? Jehovah? Allah? Zeus? Brahma? Vishnu? IL? Quezequtol? Why do you believe one mythos over another? What makes one more valid to you? Actually an education often interferes with understanding, as to many people learn only ‘facts’ and not how to think for themselves.. The answer is in the quest.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
13. and as has been said many times before "you cant legislate morality" or better still "your freedom is more important than my safety" the inability of sheep to cope with life and its addictions should in no way prohibit the tigers from doing as they please with themselves and their lives. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

15. simply put, you dont. you jam the signal by increasing the noise level in the area you are trying to protect to the point that the receiver cannot 'hear' it. theoretically you could jam the transmitter (satellite) so that its signal could not get to any receiver, but doing so would be hideously expensive (in power terms) and easily targeted ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
16. sophistry. until you show me one example of gravity not working it is a 'proven' law. the first time it doesn’t science will modify its theory to fit the current observation.this is what makes the scientific method so successful. as i stated before it is not a belief it is a manner of inquiry. the earth orbits the sun. there are many ways to prove this, based on observation, experience, and independantly repeatable experiments, that constitute proof. Not to be divisive, but if you disagree with this then you lack a fundamental understanding of what science is and how it works. science seeks to understand why things function in the manner they do. religion on the other hand makes assertions without evidence. for example: if gravity stopped working tomorrow science would seek to understand why, religion would claim "its gods will" and be done with it. Nothing in science and religion is inherently incompatible, until religion makes un-testable and therefore un-provable arguments and unfounded claims based on little more than wishful thinking. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
17. and pay for a nice pretty building, the preachers Mercedes etc... god doesn’t need your money, the church does. churches are a social club, a means of enforcing mores, controlling and fleecing the masses.. get out and experience divinity for your self, accepting the words of man in place of the experience of god is a path to slavery not enlightenment. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
18. actually none of that is evidence, only arguments for the existance of god and also arguments only for the christian view of divinity as well.. hard to believe anyone still uses this argument, it has enough holes to be a collander.. lets see..this paraphased from a discussion i once had on Pascal's Wager personally case 7 makes the most sense to me. the christian god has some strange need for justification thru the belief of mankind. Religion attempts to make man the reason for creation in the first place, this is a very self centered and self serving idea. Other than some old literature claiming so what evidence do you have that an individual life is of any concern to a being capable of creating everything?? ----------------- btw science is a method of inquiry not a belief and a great deal of it can be proven, and demonstrated repeatedly..(gravity for example ) while no claim made by any religion can be called anything more than faith. -------edited to add------ ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

25. oh i agree Bill. i try to be considerate of other people's concerns, but i refuse to pander to their ignorance. I try and help educate and explain things to people when confronted with such scenarios, and there are some circumstances where being 'beneath the radar' is the best policy. however, when i'm right, they are wrong and being asinine about it, and I have the documentation and the time to confront their ignorance i never hesitate to do so.. the Army really loved me sometimes..i ran around with copies of a few regs i got called out on occasion in my wallet just for such circumstances..."i'm sorry SGM but the reg says, yes as a matter of fact i've got it right here...." ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
