  1. thats so true it makes me want to cry sometimes... i've been blessed enough to see places and meet people on countries many folk cant spell, and yet sometimes when i see the moon over a distant mountain i wish my friends were near me so i could turn and see the moonrise reflected in their eyes rather than watch it with my own... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  3. fun is all that matters, if you do it for yourself everyone will see your fire shining thru.. breathe and play and dance as if noone is watching and your light will blind the sun.. love, luck & blue skies ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  4. its not an assumption it is the implication of their policy. for whatever reason they feel that a wingloading of higher than 1.5 creates an environment of risk that their insurance cannot handle, no matter what the jumpers experience level. just as if a world class formula driver could not get insurance because they were under age 25. Large insurance companies make exceptions to policy based on demonstrated ability. It may not be entirely the result of the of the dropzone, but by bowing under to such pressures from local authorities and/or insurance agencies they are in effect agreeing with them. I dont have a problem with a policy, i DO have a problem with an arbitrary policy that is enforced without regard to other factors (experience & demostrated ablility) that should mitigate it. blanket, inflexible rules are ALWAYS wrong. I guess its just too much trouble to actually make judgment on a case by case basis but as has been said, its their dropzone and they can run it the way they wish. Its also my perogative to laugh, point and steer anyone i might know in the area to a more progressive DZ with more realistic policies. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  5. dude you dont know how often i had to explain that to a (semi-serious or so i thought) GF in college, no matter what my mood or my day is like, my bass gives me back exactly what i give to here..sweet and lovely and she sings to my ears..angry and brutal and she rattles the walls around me... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  12. just to beat this point into the ground, neither could AZ Freeflight, AZ Surf flight, Arizona Flight Institute, Alchemy, Team Xaos, all the PD jumpers Ive met...on and on.. all of whom as individuals have more jumps than their entire staff does.. arbitrary, inflexible rules are ALWAYS stupid. i guess they never want many world champions (who might be wandering thru, dropping by visiting relatives etc..) to ever jump there because by their definition they must not be safe canopy pilots ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

i agree they rock, very cool an always go out of their way to say hello and give helpful hints..but you'd better learn to fly better than a tall lanky camera guru, if your chasing that skygoddess.. great site btw! ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  18. well thats why i put 'solo' in qoutes..the first jump you do with your own parachute from altitude. (static lines dont count otherwise i was a skydiver after my first 3 months in the army) since i went thru the same AFF course he's about to start i'm sure he'll hear the question several times "who is responsible for saving your life??? answer? "I am" thats the threshold that marks it for me. the point at which you experience freefall and no one is really going to save you if you do everything wrong granted the AFFI's are still going to do everything they can (and there is an AAD) but at some point they are going to break off and hope he does the right thing and/or the AAD functions properly ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  19. your right, tandems also help prepare a student for freefall so they dont 'space' for the first 30 sec and have no chance to pass.. however..if after 2 you arent prepared to try (different from being frightened about it, thats normal) to complete the skills nessesary to save your life, then perhaps skydiving is not for you.. "one more tandem to be sure i'll pass" sounds a lot like and excuse... IMO doing a tandem doesnt make you a skydiver, your still just a passenger trusting someone else to save your life...its that first 'solo' leap that crosses the threshold for me.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  20. lol. wonders how more than 2 tandems would help anyone pass AFF1 but hey if you want to give skydiveAZ more money I'm all for that. I had a friend who came out and just did 3 tandems over a weekend, she didnt have time to complete the course and knew she wouldnt be able to jump again for 6 months so...she was all about the ride. If thats the case then say so, but i cant imagine how any more tandems will help prepare you for being responsible for your own fate.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  21. hmmm i can (and did) see blue all day today and yesterday, but Kapowsins planes dont fly on thursday til May... hopefully it sticks around for the weekend.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  22. you could have a skyvan mockup too with the tailgate bar out over the audience and/or a spinning prop they could dangle from on a side stage.. (the club i bartended at had a steering wheel set up like that and it was the best thing to watch a girl who knew how to use it play on...) so when are you forming the investment group?? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  23. When I'm not swamped with work. IT support is feast or famine. It isn't steady. There are times when I'm very busy and don't post much. There are times like today when I (and my co-workers) are not getting much work into our queues and can pretty much do whatever we want. Our managers share our enthusiasm for slack . pretty much the same in govt support..either i'm so busy i never see a desk, or i'm stealing O2 watching the clouds blow by the concertina wire.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  24. nah lets push both of you nutters off to the sides and let those of us who wish to live our own lives without anyone else telling us what is best, have the run of the country..the way we used to before all you pale faces showed up with your beads and whiskey takes tounge out of cheek ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
