  1. got mine right around the time i finished my A too.. got a great deal on a complete rig that fits rather well given my height. (6'4) just ordered my first custom rig..still debating what size canopy to get it made for..(got a week or two before its cut) since i'd like to get it so i'll have it for several years before wanting another..even if it means jumping my current rig until i'm comfortable enough to downsize edit: i was one of the "before i started" basically i knew the first moment out the door off AFF1..after that it was just a matter of time and opportunity. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  4. no worries, thats the downside of text forums, misunderstanding happen sometimes.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  5. i was not being a smart ass at all..but if you read the original incident report you'll see several indications that it was not a suicide, and if you knew holly you'd understand exactly how ridiculous the question was in the first place. however not everyone knew her so i answered the question with some emphasis just to be sure it wasnt missed, and there is really not much reason to speculate further down such blind paths believe me i can be a serious smart ass when i wish ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  6. military rounds are designed to do one thing.. get 80% of your force on the ground and still combat effective. someone under a sport canopy large enough to handle some of the loadings the military uses would also make a hell of an easy tgt for ground fire. forward glide isnt really something you want in a mass tac either..the idea is not to have your unit spread across to many miles of enemy territory. you want them pretty much right where you drop them which is also why you exit at 800ft or so.. one of the HALO gents around here could explain what they do use sport type canopies for. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

    Busted!

I think the correct terminology is "built like a brick shithouse." I don't quite get it myself, but apparently it's a compliment of the highest regard. well at one point most shithouses were apparently wood, so putting the time and energy into making one of brick meant it was really something valuable and worth building well and with artistry..of course once you open the door its pretty much the same... i think thats why it evolved into "brickhouse" much more flattering without all the shit inside... shes mighty mighty..just lettin it all hang out "-why did you change your name to 'latrine'? - well it used to be shithouse" ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  9. still no ones told me if the Powerpuffs grow up to be Sailor Moon chickas
  10. not necessarily read only, just a stronger warning, moderation and more thought on the part of everyone posting/replying in that forum is in order first hand reports (even when conflicting) are still direct knowledge of the event and should be included. i think questions such as "did she have epilepsy/ contacts in etc?" are also perfectly valid questions that relate directly to the incident. however when it spills over into "well i heard" & "what if" it should be taken somewhere else. Its far to easy to add another 30 posts to a thread when an interesting and valuable discussion occurs however, that still adds nothing to the actual incident and IMO should be done elsewhere. if there is a subject you have questions about, by all means use the search functions, create a new post, refresh an old one etc.. if there is interest in your question it will get attention in another forum, without 'hanging on" to a thread in incidents everyone is reading because they want to understand everything they can about what actually happened. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

    should i????

90% of the electronic/network/software engineers i work with (including me) have a goatee of some sort..its almost part of the 'uniform' if you have to wear a gas mask you'll need to keep it clear under the jawline though.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  12. you know that was the first thing i thought of when i saw this thread and thought "nah cant be talking about Osan" just wander down the street to the "Outer Limit" all the russian juciys head there (if they dont have curfews) after work..much better beer as well.. for those who dont know the Batman was a hole in the basement club that had really bad sex shows with ugly flippos before Osan tried to clean up its image ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  13. happy orbit day mon..should i ask how many laps this is?? recently noticed he knows lots of aries in skydiving ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  14. i think your absolutely right..and this forum or General Skydiving or Safety & Training are the places for those discussions...i dont think i'm alone in my annoyance of the discussions (that were) taking place in the actual incident thread. is it to much to ask that we leave that one place for facts, reports, first hand information and questions for clarification purposes? i'd rather not have to filter so much 'white noise' to find what i'm looking for ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  15. uh ok i guess it should be asked but NO next speculation, thanks. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  16. if your doing an accuracy competition into a small area (pit/peas) shouldnt you come up with a landing order (possiblly based on windloading) before you exit??? that would avoid the conflict in the first place. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  17. i got to play in a F-16 simulator (the real AF version not a video game) that had been loaded with the radar maps from mars.. some of those canyons are deep enough we were dogfighting in them and rarely had to worry about "bottoming out" ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  18. no i'm not judging any DZ. as i've said before they have a right to the policies they chose to run their business. I have a right not to frequent them. I also have the right to point out that DZs without such restrictive policies are still equally commited to safety. the students comments apply to the students perception of other DZs as my comments apply only to my perceptions. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  19. this while being a perfectly valid reason for picking one dropzone over another implies it. whats different between their DZ and any other? Draconian control over jumpers wingloadings..everything else ive read (given the limitations of plane availability to 'rack up' jump numbers) seems like its otherwise a nice family oriented DZ. Lets be sure not to pretend that more progressive DZ's are not committed to safety just because they dont feel the need to control what an experienced diver wears on thier back. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  20. good reasons. however I also have those EXACT same reasons for jumping at the places i have..including Eloy, Kapowsin and Perris..everywhere i've been skydivers are a friendly and helpful bunch. if i ever felt any different at ANY dropzone i wouldnt stay there.. the implication is that other dropzones without such draconian policies about wingloading are less safe than SDkansas is ludicrious. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  21. once its figured out i'll gladly help with the tree & plaque..no reason to make one person bear all the costs..holly was so free with her love & hugs its foolish to quible over green pieces of paper.. maybe we can get SDAZ to run a watering line to wherever the tree is..(no idea about the locations involved in this..) i'd gladly help dig if nessesary. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  22. thanks mon..please let us know when you can..i'm sure lots of us (like me) will do everything they can to fly with her once more... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  23. the only issue i have with that is that by doing it in the incidents forum anyone who is only really looking for the latest update on the incident has to read thru pages of "what ifs' that dont necessarily relate to the incident. yes this a great place to learn and discuss ANYTHING skydiving related (and not on occasion) but thats the reason why we have separate forums..to help filter the content to the specific topic your looking for.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
