self education can give you some wonderful insight, however most self taught individuals have VERY limited fields of knowledge and therefore cannot see the "big picture" because they are often limited by their internal prejudice and assumptions about how things work..formal training & education teaches you that fields of study and modes of thought that seem wildly different to an uneducated lay person are often very inter twined. Education is as much about learning how to think for yourself and research any topic that turns you on as it is about getting a degree in a specific feild. Of course the connections are not immediately obvious to anyone who refuses to look deeper than what their simple experience might tell them. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

"sorry boss poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine." tell him you have plans you made weeks ago and he should give more notice for extended hours... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

i was a bit uptight during AFF trying to do everything exactly right..(sometimes i'm a perfectionist) and joe kept telling me "dude RELAX...this isnt the army your doing this for FUN remember?!?!" i dont think i could have had a better jump master introduce me to the sport.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

"know" someone from the internet? i'm not sure what you mean? whats really funny is when joe slows down and relaxes he looks like hes a bit out of it.. anna said she was looking at all the TMs and decided they all looked ok, except him..he looked like he hadnt had enough sleep..he's just so laid back most of the time i think it throws people off.. once he was breifing her she was ok with him and after the jump (and the 2 more she made that weekend) she realized how cool he really is.. he was doing tandems at Burning Man last year too.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

No, not a genius, but certainly somebody with an imagination that goes beyond the traditional thinking of our security people. The reason the attacks of September 11th were so successful is that nobody in our government had the imagination to think of that as a real possibility. The planning and implementation fo the attack was simple and very effective and that took one hell of a lot of imagination on their part to carry out. not really there were several threat assessments before that pointed out the possibility and it wasnt that imaginative at all. Government rarely thinks 'outside the box' until forced to do so and after a few months that flexibility hardens again into predicatible patterns. nothing the terrorists have done of late has been creative or innovative we've just been unprepared and complacent.. i can think of lots of way in which we are still very vulnerable, but no one really wants to listen. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Strength/Endurance exercises for wingsuit flight?
Zenister replied to Zenister's topic in Wing Suit Flying
greetings bird peoples! i'm not yet up to wingsuit flying but am very interested in it. Given the particular body positions i've been reading about to get the most efficient flight from different wingsuits, what kinds of strength training exercises would you recommend to better prepare for wingsuits? I'm looking particularly to develop a series of exercises (or a full routine) to incorporate in to my (irr of late)regular gym work out. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
and have been for quite some time.. the elevated alert level is a security blanket for the sheep to feel safer, it doesnt do much more to increase security than make everyones lives more annoying.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

like or dislike is a matter of taste. quality (in all of those disciplines) can be measured. bob dylan is a GREAT song writer, but a mediocre musician and a terrible singer ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

if any of yous lucky bastages see a spiky haired platinum blonde german guy (looks like Calvin) wandering around with a hottie freefly type (missmae) walk up and say "Hi Thomas, Randy asked me to say hello" his reaction should be funny after it happens a few times...

OMG its back... American Idol is Laurence Welk for the MTV generation...not my bag at all but if you like it more power to you..personally the only reason i bought a TV at all was so we wouldnt have to keep watching skydiving vids on my roomates 10 inch/vcr combo thing... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

well you could join the army like i did..thats i little under the amount they paid off..i only had to pay taxes on the pay off as income. unfortuantly they paid it all in one year instead of installments like they were supposed to..so it seemed to the IRS like i made ALOT more in 1999 than i really did...i sat down and figured it out with my tax guy once..if LRP had done it like they were supposed to i would have paid about $300 more in taxes..since they did it all at once i paid almost $4,000 ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

i agree. 80% of the soldiers i talk to (or who see me in a skydiving shirt) ask about it, and really seem interested, but most cant afford to start with what the government pays them. On the selfish side, I travel to a number of military posts & bases as a regular part of my job, and everywhere i go i get the same answer, "well we used to have one but...." I'd love to be able to jump everywhere my job sends me without having to travel away to a civilian dz. the budgetary cutbacks really took alot of the fun (i used to see as a dependant) out of being a soldier..in terms of school availability and extra-curricular activities.. meanwhile I see millions spent on new parade & softball fields because the local commanders care about those activities..we need to get more young officers skydiving so they will support military participation in the sport once they get to the point they have some say over where the ‘extra’ money goes.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

its always interesting trying to find the discussion again (by thread titles) in the morning..i wonder if we've ever had a thread that stayed on topic in talkback? we'd all probably owe beer.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

the difference is the "book learner" draws on the wisdom and experience of thousands of individuals from the last hundred years or so and then adds his own. your hands on guy only knows what he can see for himself. who do you think will do more in their lifetime? knowledge is cumulative if you take the time to collect it. Otherwise you repeat mistakes others learned years before you started. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
