Another way to avoid parenting responsibilities
Zenister replied to nbblood's topic in Speakers Corner
perhaps we should, and leave such decisions up to the parents thereby giving them BACK the responsibility for making decisions about right and wrong for themselves and their family. the governments job is not to protect you from yourself, or to raise your children for you....if you take the time to teach your kids about life and right (your version as they are your children) then you dont have to worry about what they see at the movies or on television.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
i dont as much as is humanly possible..I try to stick to local acts that are actually playing their own music… for everyone of the bands you can name who failed with full on corp publicity and backing i can probably name 2 who succeeded....for as long as they had the corp backing to get airplay and sell albums...but when that sophomore album came around and they didnt have the same level of publicity support..... thats where 90% of one hit wonders come from....acts who would never get exposure in the first place (because no one really listened to them) but with the right spin, hair color, makeup, and a done to death, every hour on the hour radio rotation....instant success as long as the corp coffers remain open to keep them on the air... ever wonder how that band you’ve never heard of at all(because they weren’t a band before 6 months ago) is suddenly on every radio station twice an hour?? It sure isn’t because the fans demanded it…. If AggieDave put his heart and soul into being a skydiver, worked crappy jobs in low playing towns and traveled around building a fan base for his tandem job while DanBC didn’t really give a shit about skydiving (just a job, a way to pick up chicks) and was handed everything from day one by a corporation that was really only interested in how much money they could make off 4-way…. Yes I would say Dave would be a better skydiver, simply because he wanted it more and put the personal effort into achieving his goals….he’d certainly be a better person for it… note all names of existing persons used for analogy only ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

You left out a couple of possibilites: 1) Maybe he's an asshat. 2) Maybe he's pandering to his audience. 3rd option (albeit related to #1) he's a proud member of the 'flag officers with frontal lobdomies' (they are issued at Command and Staff College if your on your way to a star) you wouldnt believe the number of stupid questions and statements i've feilded from general officers..including the infamous "what happens when they(the enemy) turn their lights off" during a breif on JSTARS radar capabilities... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

good example, compare Billy Joel's path with those of AI's contestants...(although i'm not so sure Mr. Joel qualifies as "pop" in the sense of AI and Britany Spears for exactly that reason....) do you really think anyone who wins their fame on a television show really has the musical ability and drive of someone who works, plays and creates their own music on the way to success? Pop culture creates a market for whatever artist the record labels back that quarter, and issue the push list of the week to all their corp underlings....if enough radio stations and music channels play a song long enough, somehow the sheep imagine that it really must be good and popular and suddenly it is if you cant see the difference between corp mass produced musical mindcandy and a musician....well... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

True, but Water skiing has been an exhibition sport in the Olympics and many people are bidding to have it included again... But I think that the main stumbing block for sky diving being included as a an olympic sport, is the logistics of making it visible and accesible to the general public and also...... that it just isn't as much fun to watch as it is to take part. several existing sports have the same issue, Fencing is a prime example..it is most definitely NOT a spectator sport (the uninitiated and even low experienced and or uncurrent fencers have difficulty following the action) it does however has the advantage of being an existing sport since the inception of the modern Olympics...of course the IOC continues discuss removing it in favor of more 'marketable' sports... the Olympics have been all about marketing for quite sometime now…when is the last time you actually saw any of the Fencing (or other non-mainstream events) covered during the Olympics?? of course it doesn’t help that the US sucks comparatively the networks hate to show events where the US gets it handed to them regularly, if your not a winner the media doesn’t really care unless they can get a 2min human interest story out of you for filler…. so much for pure athleticism.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

an ignorant statement. Aall forms of Art have rules, well documented, culturally defined rules. One of the primary differences between a poor artist and a great one is the ability to 'break' those rules when nessesary to achieve the desired effect/response from the veiwer. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

no body in 'pop' music earns anything.... its given to you by record companies who are only interested in your market value, not your musical ability or talent. if it sells to the sheep your in...if not...go peddle your 'art' somewhere else the industry is only about money.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Zenister replied to kai2k1's topic in The Bonfire
Are you sure? Cause, I don't know..............I'm tired of this ride too. J Guys, gals, tough it out, no matter how bad it might seem. Just remember that you've got eternity to be dead -- no point in rushing it. well thats one way of looking at it..... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
News:Eloy approves wind tunnel permit
Zenister replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Events & Places to Jump
great news!!!! but is it just me or does it sound like the 'city staff' has faaaaar to much time on their hands?? well it is Eloy after all 45db?? most lawnmowers are louder than that, the interstate is that loud from the super 8....some people have no clue..... sounds like someone is pissed because their planned desert retirement home isnt going to be absolutely silent? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -

crap instruments?!?!? are you kidding me??? the Beatles had access to the most cutting edge recording technology (and technicians of the day..the explosion of the information age and revolution in media production is as much responsible for the Beatles widespread influence and exposure as any particular musical talent.. if the Beatles had only made their first two albums do you think you would know who they were?? pop culture success gave them the time, leisure, money and contacts to meet the producers and develop into mature musicians who were capable of creating their later work. Far to many fans want to pretend they sprung full born into Abby Road and ignore the mindcandy they played before... ps.. perhaps you should compare chord progressions and some of the odd variants used by the Beatles to those in R&B before you say their was no influence....Hell the Beatles were nearly completely responsible for the UK discovering R&B, they brought it back from Germany of all places.. you know we should almost have a poll about the definition of Rock and Roll before we get to far down this discussion.. Sabbath? Nirvana? Bob Marley? Rock and Roll?? your catagory is so broad its difficult to discuss ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

have you looked at most of the contestants actual performance history? number of live shows and tours? perhaps you should...then compare that to artists and musicians who 'proved' themselves and built a fan base thru their own work as opposed to being handed one instantly by a tv show.. talent is one thing, determination and drive is something entirely different.. winning a TV contest is not indicative of the later qualities. American Idol is a lottery contest for fame, there is simply no comparison to an artist who earns a recording contract totally on their own merits and those who would likely have spent their lives singing beautifully in the shower but never make anything of themselves because they lacked the drive nessesary to work for it instead of the instant gratification of AI... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

and so it is. however, what many fail to understand is that there is quite alot of man's 'word' intermixed in it (the bible) as well (perhaps more so even) and that it is in no way the sole (soul) authority or path to divinity many claim it to be... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

its a expression of one cultures experience of divinity, as such it has relevance for anyone who is truey looking for God, and not just a religion to take them in... if there is a "word of God" its everywhere in everything.. the trick is hearing it apart from all the chatter of mankind... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

kind of like the Bible honestly i thought it was a rather dull read...derivative of Eco, and rehashing ideas that have really been around for quite sometime, nothing new about religion suppressing facts and ideas that challenge its authority.. spirituality is between you and God, but religion is purely political... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

do you check the track corridor before a tracking dive?
Zenister replied to Newbie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
ummm you dont do that in the air??? it sorta amazes me how you could not see a cloud coming during a tracking dive.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
if the world were as it should be the contestants would be working for their 'stardom' (as Aretha did) not riding the fame lottery... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

waaah dude seriously needs to get over it... just stare back.. machismo is silly... however, i'm not openning any doors unless i dont have to change my path to do it, most of the time it seems my door is closer and the additional effort is pointless, if she (he/it whatever) needs assistance getting in the car thats one thing, but a perfectly healthy adult?? when the opportunity occurs its a lovely gesture, however far to many people 'expect' it, and there are far better ways to show respect than rote behaviors that have long since lost their original meanings ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
