The intent is not what's important What is important is HOW it's received. if i decided i'm offended by the letter Q (and enough people agree) are we to stop using it?? When a message is passed and it becomes apparent that it is being mis-interpreted by a group of people or said people take offence to the message, then yes in most circumstances I would expect the message to be changed. Unless of couse the message sender cares not for the way the message is recieved and only of the right, to relay their message as is, regardless of the way it's recieved. Such a person would be a poor communicator. Only if you are attempting to communicate in the first place.. but in this instance there is no message. It is/was a group that decided they had a common bond, sharing a joke, that another group/individual somehow found offense. Since there is no message to be communicated, it is totally irrelevant how someone outside perceives that group, your inaccurate perception does not affect reality, and yet you expect others to change because you misperceive?? unless of course you hire enough lawyers to enforce your perception... why should someone’s desire not to be offended outweigh the desire of others to entertain themselves? Particularly when other than the personal internal mental drama created in the mind of the 'offended' parties, there is no affect to anyone not participating in the 'joke’. to make an OT post, i have to agree with both sides, beyond the "wow this gear really works" fascination, it was a pretty stupid demonstration.. I just have to disagree. I have known far too many bums that got that piece of paper with absolutely no work ethic and didn't manage to stay employed long after graduation. Someone with enough intelligence can get through college by never going to class and doing the bare minimum without trying. Mind you, this is in engineering at one of the top 5 colleges in the country, so it isn't SlackU either. lots of people do exactly that...play, party, and breeze thru to earn the same piece of paper as those who put time and energy into improving themselves and earning their degree. Test files and 'study' groups found in man Frats/Sororities only encourage that behavior.. It is criminal the number of people who manage to graduate from well recognized institutions without learning anything, even in the fields they are now degreed in, much less basic research/thinking skills.... I completed both my BA and BFA while working as a bartender. I went to college to learn about the subjects I was interested in, NOT with the intent to find a good job/husband afterwards. There are more measurements for 'quality of life' than what your W2 states at the end of the year... I took some minor grants (mostly for materials as a practicing artist) but paid the majority of my tuition in loans (mine) that the military paid off when i completed my service... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
