We all know that moms love to dress up their kids...
Zenister replied to BillyVance's topic in The Bonfire
It would be.... but no more crazier than a friend's cousin showing up at a halloween costume party dressed as Superman in a wheelchair with tube.... the Halloween after Reeves died... boy did he kill that party or what? It got real quiet all of a sudden. haha some people just dont know how to laugh at life (and death) that costume would have me crying for hours... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
I dont see how inflicting your beliefs on others equates to 'Respect'. Respect means everyone can use the facilities equally, those who have issues with basic access for all (because of their own primitive belief) can exercise at home, and not impose their idea of 'modesty' on others. What genius believes you can promote 'open-mindedness' by banning. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

lol You get funnier with every lame justification you attempt. The Ellipsis are used for EXACTLY what I used the for in that context. Again because it is just to funny not to keep quoting. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

I'm not looking for anything different than exactly what I wrote. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

And your punctuation still sucks. Crappy punctuation just might be a sign of a dim-bulb nation. actually I'm using the punctuation to amplify my meaning in a purely text based conversation. Ellipsis are used to indicate that something is being left out, left unsaid. I could have expounded on exactly WHY your post was ironic however I tend to leave the deduction to the reader. oh BTW reducing your rebuttal to an Ad Hominen attack indicates you have lost this argument. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Nonsense. The meaning of words often change to fit the vernacular -- and that's among the least of our problems as a nation. using the wrong word and attempting to justify it as correct illustrates exactly what this article describes.. why bother to learn the correct terminology when repetition and arrogance will suffice? the actual word you are looking for is "Liberalism" you even used it's definition in your defense of your incorrect usage of "Liberal" but hey keep proving the author's point for us, it is quite entertaining. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Well, I'll just be wrong in your eyes then. To me, "liberal" describes the general political persuasion of the folks who've systematically removed "dicipline and respect for Rational Thought and Reason" from our children's lives, both at home and at school. the irony is staggering... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

oh the terms (liberal and conservative) have certainly been degraded perhaps but the word he is looking for is [ url http://www.answers.com/topic/liberalism]Liberalism[/url] vs Liberal putting the political movement in place of the actual meaning is a sign of exactly what this article is complaining about.. I certainly would not want scientists who were trained in a strictly conservative manner or there would never be any progress at all.. and 5 out of 5 would still believe that the sun revolved around the earth... 'Discriminating' still means 'choosing', it is only through a myopic societal view that it has negative connotations. Which again is a sign of the declining ability in critical thought and education. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Wrong, the results of a lack of discipline and respect for Rational Thought and Reason are upon us. "Liberal" does not mean what you believe it does, o matter how often the word is repeated in incorrect usage. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

despite the snears of many unenlightened, this is the value in a true 'liberal arts' education. You are required to learn SOMETHING about EVERYTHING and then focus on whatever your specific field is... the primary goal in education is/has always been to learn how to 'teach yourself' everything else you didn't learn while under direct tutelage. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

No Postage Necessary if Mailed in the United States
Zenister replied to Zenister's topic in The Bonfire
is one of my favorite phrases. It amuses me greatly in the roughly two hours of my week I waste (sorting, opening (because the asshats even include fake CCs that will burn out the shredder faster) and) shredding the personal bits of junk mail spam to take the preaddressed mailers they provide, seal them and drop them in the mail box on my next visit. Since there is no real means to 'opt out' of this crap, and no means to charge them for my time they waste so I can avoid the identity theft they are setting me up for with this shit, I get what joy I can from knowing they have to pay some unfortunate soul to open the empty mailer I'm returning to them, as well as getting charged by the government for the additional 'spam' they will never profit from. the smart ones have caught on to me and include my return address on the mailer...this annoys me as it takes away from my joy, and goes into the shredder with the rest of the crap... how many fucking trees have these assholes killed with this shit anyway??? wish we could deduct the oxygen debt from their lungs directly.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
IMO you can only know someone as well as you know yourself and no farther... it is a mistake to believe you really 'know yourself' anymore than you 'know anyone else' the Zen maxim applies "you can never step into the same river twice" no matter what the outward appearance every situation is different from that which came before... assumptions (about another or even oneself) only lead to misunderstanding and mistakes. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

just like any other profession there are good and bad... the JOB one takes does not get respect, the way an individual does WHATEVER IT IS THEY DO, is what earns respect in my book. that which is given on assumption is valueless. These appear to be examples of those who do a shitty job with dignity and honor, there are examples of the opposite type as well, who unfortunately get far more publicity. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Ever shut off your alarm clock while still asleep/groggy?
Zenister replied to 1969912's topic in The Bonfire
This.. but make sure the room is big enough you cant reach it in one step and fall back into bed.. i've done that too... so now i have alarm clocks with 2 settings. 1 is to music and usually gets me up, the other is an annoying buzz and definitely does... the aversion to hearing the buzz usually keeps me up after the first alarm goes off.. Math? before Coffee? no way. it would sail out the window into the pool. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
I wont argue over total force needs, but the US clearly NEEDS a tanker replacement. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

I really think that given equal footing.. American products can and are the best in the world. Engineering and performance criteria know no boundaries. Ive worked with more than one system that was chosen more for political reasons than performance and system requirements. Based on available evidence so far, this does not appear to be one of them. Boeing's product was outclassed. If we want the best equipment to be made in America, then we have to accept the cost of doing so... Fast, Right, Cheap fails if you always chose Fast and Cheap. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Personally I think outsourcing ANY of our defence needs is a very very bad thing. If a Soldier Sailor Airman or Marine uses it.. it needs to have a very large MADE IN THE USA on it.. period and it needs to be made by Amerricans.... ALL of it. not if we dont make the best product to fit the need. Patriotism is fine, but it shouldnt dictate engineering standards or system requirements. I dont care where it is made, I care how well it works.. my favorite firearms are H&K for exactly that reason. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

As a former soldier, former aircrew member on one of the boeing airframes and current contractor I say economy be damned if it is the best aircraft for the job. as far as I know 'Keeping Tom, Dick and Harry American' employed has never been a systems engineering requirement... anything that detracts from the needs of the force and the soldier needs to be sidelined.. (which is why I'll never be a politician) ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Vote for Roberta Mancino at MensFitness.com
Zenister replied to jeffprovenzano's topic in The Bonfire
nice! looks like the final totals. for those who were wondering the actual number of clicks was hidden on the web page, if you highlighted it and Cut and Pasted into something (like this post) you saw the numbers..in addition you could hunt thru the source code and see them as well, but if your not a code geek that is more difficult. Congrates! Roberta.. I'm guessing you wont mind signing a copy whenever it appears? -
reports say he threatend to walk out publically if he was NOT allowed to deploy. One can only wish we had leaders who were worth following the way he apparently is (even if he's only a symbolic leader) ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

ok you are right i'm wrong on the multi click.. they are counting submit clicks with the choice selected which means they arent even getting the 'page views' that most polls that dont track IP's are after for advertising... lol guess the web coder over there is underpaid or overworked.. that is pretty bad design (but explains how Misty was making up so much ground for a while) lead is full of himself, with that method you wont need any other supporters to push her through pretty easily.. unless ofc they fix it/invalidate the poll due to ballot stuffing so you might NOT want to make it such a landslide.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
