  1. It's true - while high speed (intentional or not) landings are currently dominating the fatalities you'll notice if you go back through history (and reasons for the bulk fatalities change every few years btw) you'll notice that the MAJORITY of skydiving incidents are caused by human error. That's not to say that equipment error doesn't happen - I can think of 2 people in the last 2 years (one of them a fellow competitor) who died because of equipment malfunction. It's not as common these days but it can, and does, still happen. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  2. Good lord, I think I might have to extend my stay at B's place Performance Designs Factory Team
  3. DOH! I just go where you tell me to B! See you soon! Performance Designs Factory Team
  4. That's SIR Ian Gaylord Drennan to you, peon! Of course Paul, I'm in Virginia that weekend and will be back in town the NEXT weekend. Now repeat after me "I, Paul Roussow, will try and think before posting on dz.com next time" Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  5. Peej, what I mean't by 'the pop' was the way the wing reacted when transitioning to toggles. It looked a LOT like when people stay on the rears too long (in terms of sound) although it didn't appear they had. Just an impression/opinion I had after watching pilots with the mod. 6. I spoke to the organizer (coaching) today and it seems it's not the same DZ - I believe I'll be at Orange. Have a safe, good time! Blues! Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  7. Doubt I'll be able to compete since I'll be coaching, but what are the events? Might be fun to watch if possible
  8. For easy reference, here are links to common picture threads in this forum: Post your hot swoop pics and Post your swoop XRAY pics (reminder to us all) Blues! Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  9. I was coming up to do some coaching. VPC meet? Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  10. Nuts, I'll be there next weekend though (21st)! Looking forward to meeting you all. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  11. I watched a few people compete with this mod. The wing 'pop' when transferring off of rears was much more pronounced. Enough so that I didn't bother to try it. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  12. Guys - please keep it on topic. Performance Designs Factory Team
  13. Little to no change...seriously. edit: About lengthening lines - I had 7 inches added to mine at one point and it made the openings REALLY funky as well as made the shut down a little worse (least it felt that way). It was the lineset I was jumping at the 05 Colorado cpc. Longer risers give better leverage and feel - that's the only reason I prefer them. The flight changes are minimal at best with 2 inches. 14. In no wind I'd choose the 96. In a downwind I'd choose the 96. In a headwind below 5mph I'd choose the 96. In a headwind above 7 mph I'd choose the 90. All assuming distance in your scenario. Personal preference of course. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  15. Almost always - That your brake lines are too short. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  16. I'll restate my point Anyone who thinks for one second that this piece of paper alone will make them safer is kidding themselves IMO. So, if you agree that the DZO's and S&TA's actually need to do something like enforce the rule OR enforce a DZ rule - then we're right back to where we started - with the onus on the community, dzo's and s&ta's to enforce good practices. I don't believe the BSR is required for us to know what that is at this stage, and if we as a community, need a rule to enforce something we already KNOW then we need to look inwards on what we're becomming. 17. Agreed. On a side note, don't roll the tail too tight. You basically only want it to contain the packjob and keep the slider up against the chips. Excessive rolling can worsten the openings. Packing Let the nose hang. Keep the slider quartered Keep the slider against the chips. Opening Keep symetrical - feet and knees together when the deployment sequence pulls you upright. Don't fight the opening End Cell Closure http://www.performancedesigns.com/pdzone/videos_endcellclosure.asp Watch that vid. Blues! Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  18. My apologies, here's a link to the thread I'm referring to
  19. Hey folks, We already have another canopy/swoop picture thread going - lets please keep them all in there until we branch it off. Thanks! Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  20. And you'll always have people pulling below 1800 feet even though there's a BSR against it. People are going to break the rules regardless of what they say. It's still up to the DZO and the community to enforce them. Absolute nonsense. Of the few dz's I've visited this year ALL OF THEM have already made changes without the BSR: Skydive The Farm Skydive Atlanta Skydive Palatka Skydive Raeford Atlanta Skydiving Center Mile Hi Skydiving Then there's places like: Skydive Elsinore Skydive Arizona etc, etc to name a few Seems to me like DZO's ARE listening and doing things. Which is ENTIRELY their right to do so. Just like it's the jumpers right to go somewhere else. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  21. It's a fun popcorn movie. Check your brain at the door and you'll really enjoy it (except for John Turturro's unusually bad acting)
  22. So now you're throwing rocks at us?? We see how you swoopers are... Touche'!! On a more serious note I can't tell you how EXCITED I am to turn up at a DZ and have canopy piloting be the central topic of conversation. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  23. Considering that thread was started Sep 18, 2003 - I'd certainly expect it to be so high in views. The BSR proposal for canopy patterns & Petition to support a BSR change to reduce canopy fatalities threads were started less than 6 months ago - it would appear that you're getting more views and replies (on average) per month than the 'picture' thread. I think the threads are getting PLENTY of attention. After all, when was the last time you arrived at a DZ and spoke about the picture thread on DZ.com hehe. I can't throw a rock and not hit someone talking about the BSR thread Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
  24. Mark, I believe Bill (and others) ARE making a difference. I don't believe for one second that we have opposite goals - just different approaches. Regardless whether or not I support the BSR approach, I believe we all want the same thing. If the BSR proposal does nothing more than inspire people into action it's been a good thing. Personally I commend Bill, Flip, Molly and the others for at least trying to get the ball rolling. Now lets keep the momentum going Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
