Hitting Skydive Dallas this weekend

I'm curious, but can anyone tell me why they consider a more intrusive approach to a good pattern (180 degree turn) as ok to perform in the "regular" landing area? I'm all for separate HP and regular areas but it seems contradictory to me. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -

Yep - much as I can't stand the fact that the boob has another 4 years in the office, your statement is the reality of it. I'm much happier (sic) that this time round there was no question who won the election. From my standpoint it was won fair and square and represents the majority of the country and I really don't think anyone can argue otherwise. Doesn't matter that I wish it was another way, that's democracy and someones things aren't gonna turn out the way you'd hoped. That's life

Hitting Skydive Dallas this weekend

I'll be in Dallas Friday and Saturday and was thinking of hitting Skydive Dallas both days. Any Pros/Cons from the regulars or people who've visted there? I see perfomance landings are "forbidden" there according to their profile on DZ.com. This true or is there an area where I can do my approaches? edit: Any FF'ers gonna be out there Fri or Sat? Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -
Yeah I LOVE that. It more than makes up for the impending sucky (low speed) landing

When my wife and I come visit her Dad (he lives in Hawaii) next year we'll definately do so. Looks beautiful. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

pretty much the same here. If the landing area is clear of turbulence causing obstacles I've jumping as high as 30mph steady wind. It was sucky though and not much fun. I won't go up in anything gusting 10 or more mph varience. I try to keep the max range around 5mph though, but I'll go as high as 10. As for uppers no limit. Only requirement is a good spot. That's a pretty standard question, at least in my industry. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -
Only if you want it to perform the mathematical function. If she explicitly wants the left without any conversions (such as FLOOR(-123.45) returning -124 instead of -123) basically, it just depends what she considers the "correct" result. Ladyskydiver, make sure you confirm which one is most appropriate for your expected data. edit: Generally yep that's a good point. Another Edit: Copied and pasted from the help file for ladyskydiver to help her make her decision: FLOOR Returns the largest integer less than or equal to the given numeric expression. Syntax FLOOR ( numeric_expression ) Arguments numeric_expression Is an expression of the exact numeric or approximate numeric data type category, except for the bit data type. Return Types Returns the same type as numeric_expression. Examples This example shows positive numeric, negative numeric, and currency values with the FLOOR function. SELECT FLOOR(123.45), FLOOR(-123.45), FLOOR($123.45) The result is the integer portion of the calculated value in the same data type as numeric_expression. --------- --------- ----------- 123 -124 123.0000 Blues, Ian ps: raise your hand if you've been bitten in the ass before thanks to Bankers Rounding!

Holiday Party Boogie @ The Farm - DEC 11&12

Ok, so I know this can't really be Mark typing cause: a) It's intelligent. b) It's not rife with spelling and grammatical errors. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -
Ok, so 2 out of how many? Not mention that one was a partner so they had all the designs and schematics. I don't see these on the XAOS which, I believe, came out after they had this technology...... The only KNOWLEDGEABLE person I've heard comment on is Beezy. Beezy has come out openly and said he didn't understand the in depth technical aspects of them and couldn't give details. You're right, there hasn't been one instance (that I've read) of data presented. All I've read is speculation. Beezy's been very forthcoming with what he knows, but read above. Sorry but I want to hear other manufacturers experience, if any, dealing with these things. Just cause "you say so" isn't good enough for me, last I checked you didn't manufacture these things either. As for John Leblanc it was an example take it as such. edit: I have no vested interest whether these work or not, but I read some comments where people who simply don't have the DATA are talking about these things like they're a fact. Basically I see 1 person with any knowledge (Beezy) giving information and everyone else speculating on either side. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Granted, but if they made that much of a difference you don't think other manufacturers would follow suit? Maybe they make a difference, maybe they don't. My moneys on "doubt it" though. It'd be nice if someone like John Leblanc or an actual canopy manufacturer (someone involved in the aerodynamic side of it) stepped in with some info on these (I'm sure they've all researched them) Blues, Ian Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Sorry all, but I've decided to miss this meet. I just can't justify the cost of changing the plane ticket (I'm already losing $200 on a non refundable tunnel camp that was scheduled for January 15th - same as the finals have now been set to ). Hopefully next year the dates will be determined further in advance. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -
distance from your local DZ?
ianmdrennan replied to Nimitz88's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yeah I used to live 5 mins from that DZ as well. I'd HIGHLY recommend making a trip out to Jumptown. From my house (when I lived in RI) it was 1 1/2 hours take 146 NORTH to Worcester, get on 290 EAST to 190 NORTH, take Route 2 WEST and get off at EXIT 16. I've jumped at all the DZ's in NE and made that one home, the people there are simply the best I've encountered anywhere in the country. Blues bro! Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -

Hey Dee - sorry babe, not trying to be harsh and certainly don't mean to come off that way. I just want people to think, and I mean REALLY THINK, about why they feel there should be another category. As for next weekend, that's all weather dependent. At this stage there's a good chance I'll be seeing ya Hope you had a good turkey day! Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -
Sebastian will double prize money for FLCPA round 5
ianmdrennan replied to chayes12's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I still jump weekends only, I train on a Freefly team and haven't done more than 30 hop n pops outside of the Swoop meets all season. I compete in the intermediate class (probably will soon get moved up) to have fun and learn. My first competition ever, was a Red Bull Swoop meet where I had to go up against (no seperate categories) the PD Factory Team, Team Chaos, Danny Koon, Chris Erwin, Nate Gilbert, etc to where 25 of the 32 slots were considered "pro swoopers". I still competed, got my ass kicked, LEARNED A BUNCH and was never treated like a newbie at all. I accepted that part of learning was going up against the big dogs, getting beaten, and learning as much as I could from them. Yes there is, it's the intermediate in the FLCPA. If you're deemed too good for the category, you're moved up to help keep the playing field level. That'll happen in any category. It's too close a game to think you're going to walk in and school everyone. If you think you are then you're good enough to compete with everyone else and if you you're too scared about losing then competition swooping isn't for you. Any time an ego governs something, it's not a good thing. Play to win for sure, but realize that winning isn't everything and isn't going to happen every time. The field is VERY tough. Tyler Lawson WON an event on his Nitron. If PD will send me a Katana to get current on, I'll do the first round of the FLCPA next year on one for you - all you need to do is make sure you come to the event and compete with me
