FCC is out of control -- NSFW (if your company is just as stupid)
ianmdrennan replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
Yep. Last I checked being naked didn't make my eye's bleed when I look in the mirror. Being naked isn't a sexual act for gods sake, we've just allowed it to be defined as such because for some reason we're incredibly ashamed by our bodies. You're right, but not because I'm ashamed of the pic, but rather cause some dumbass would sue me for sexual harassment. It never ceases to amaze me how forward thinking AND backwards ass thinking the US can be at the same time. It baffles me even more that we'll depict gruesome acts of violence on prime time tv (and the nightly news), but the mere sight of a penis/boob/vagina will bring our civilization to it's knees. Baffling. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -

It could be that it's more common than I realize but I deal with most riggers who work privately and their services have always been 45-50. Not saying you're not right, just saying in the Northeast and now GA the prices have been comparable regardless of a dzo's involvment or not. I do feel bad for the rigger in this case though. I'm sure this could have been avoided if he was contacted and the issues discussed. Imagine if you did work for me and I wasn't happy or didn't understand why something was done, and instead of calling and talking to you directly I came here and posted something like this. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be too happy about it if you had a valid reason for your actions and would have preferred it if I contact you first if I had any questions, right? If I have a problem, I go to the source. Seems to make sense to me. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

I've travelled all over the country and until your post I've never seen anyone offer a repack for $35. My experiences have shown that anywhere from 45-55 is the norm. "Professional" or not. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

paralog - importing csv files
ianmdrennan replied to The111's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
When I rebuilt my computer, I just copied the paralog folder (under documents and settings\) and put it back there when I reinstalled paralog on the new build. All I had to do after that was setup paralog to point to the new db. I know it's not what you asked, but if you still have those file's I'd do that. If not email the software author and see if he's got any ideas. I heard he's really pro-active in resolving software issues. Blues bro! Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -
Hi Lisa, Why don't you first call the rigger and ask about the bill? I'm sure there is a rational explanation for the cost of the work. Ask for an itemized bill, if you don't like what you see then take it up with the rigger, if you STILL don't like what you see then bring it here. I'm sure there's a explanation for everything. Please keep us posted as to what you find out. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

is this really considered as pedophilic?
ianmdrennan replied to ianmdrennan's topic in Speakers Corner
Hi Tom, I definately understand the "why" rules for the forum. That's why I wanted to make it clear I wasn't trying to draw those into question. My comments were spawned from the picture removal but they were thoughts on how society is able to strip innocence from most things and pervert them. I didn't stare at the picture long enough to notice that. All I remember seeing was the little boy holding the remote. I'm sure the picture is as you described, but I didn't even notice the crotch grab. I think Skydekker is close to the money on this one. I believe that it's largely a cultural issue. It's no secret that the US is generally prudish when it comes to nudity of any kind. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -

ianmdrennan replied to ianmdrennan's topic in Speakers Corner
Yeah, I understand the need for it. I'm just disappointed that it's become "necessary". See, that's what I get for thinking about humanity on a day I think the world sucks anyway -
Yep - so we'll see you there then? Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

is this really considered as pedophilic?
ianmdrennan replied to ianmdrennan's topic in Speakers Corner
Ok, I posted this here as I'm sure it'll get controversial. Recently there was a post in the bonfire that contained IMO an innocent picture of a naked little boy (maybe less than a year old?) holding a remote control. The picture and context was not sexual in any way, yet the post was removed because of pedophila rules. Now let me be clear it is NOT MY INTENT TO QUESTION SANGIRO'S RULES, but rather our interpretation of what does/doesn't constitute pedophilia. IMO it's a truely sad day, when we are able to vilify an innocent picture. To me, it says something of the minds that even think that the picture is in any way sexually objectifying a child. Whatever happened to innocence? My parents have pictures from when I was a child in the bath, running around, etc. Just being a kid. They were taken with love , capturing memories and are totally innocent (who doesn't have embarressing child pictures?). What distinguishes those pictures from the one I described? To me nothing, but maybe I'm missing something? Please, this isn't about the evil of pedophilia (we all know it's vile and disgusting), this is more about how we as adults are able to strip total innocence out of something and make it more than it was ever intended to be. Most definately the Skydive Atlanta Halloween Festival again. Seriously, best.boogie.ever. Other than that Katie and I have been meaning to hit up Summerfest for a while now. Methinks that's on the cards too. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Last year during the dz.com boogie (holiday boogie) my wife and I each did 58 or so in 7 days. Bad weather slowed us down a bit, but if you can keep up with the packing (after about day 4 it starts getting a bit much) you should be able to do around 8-10 a day. I dont think you could get much more than that because of waiting for loads....at least that's how it was last year. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Because there are few things that piss me off more than someone claiming they're "african american" when they've never even set foot on the continent I was raised on. For some reason it really aggrevates the shit outta me when someone who's never even BEEN to the continent, let alone was born there, runs around labeling themselves like that. If people ask me what my heritage is, I'll tell them, but I don't run around calling myself a South African-Irish-Scottish-British-American.

That's a pretty bold statement. Come down to Skydive Atlanta sometime. I think you'll be surprised after jumping out of (IMO) the best maintained, conditioned and fastest climbing aircraft in GA. I think you'll find there's a significant amount of Freefly and canopy talent available at any time. Hope to see you soon -
Angela, I've had low batteries (remember the indicator can read full and the battery can be on it's way out) cause "missing" logbooks. Soon as the new battery is inserted the unit has enough power to read the logs again. Nothing lost. Replace the battery before you do anything else. If that still doesn't work then work with Alti-2.
