Sling shot effect, myth or reality?

Depends on what you mean but if you're referring to what I think you are then no, but it's a fine line to be walking Performance Designs Factory Team -
If someone condones Shady behavior, does that make them Shady?

Not always guilty by association, true, but definitely guilty of SUPPORTING the indiscretions. Therein lies the issue with the individuals moral character. Sharon, kick hard Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -

Sling shot effect, myth or reality?

Hey Chris. Raymod has brought up my terminology and he has a valid point. Instead I'll put up Brian Germains diagram that better describes what I mean (Brian if you disapprove let me know and I'll remove it). Basically I'm talking about forceably shortening your recovery arc, ever so slightly for maximum ground distance. To correct my terminology I'd define being in 'the corner' as anything lower than the maximum ground distance your canopy can achieve. Obviously there are varying degrees of such and the danger is exponentially increased with the depth. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -
Hey Mark. I think it's just my copy. Other people seem to be playing it fine. I'll try and return it for another copy and see what happens. Blues! Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Well I think I must just have gotten a 'bum' cd seeing as others seem to be able to play it fine on their computers. I took it home and tried it. My machine promptly locked up (yech). After a reboot I could see the tracks but not actually play any of them. I think I'll return it and try another copy as I've tried it on 4 different players now. Odd that the car, dvd player play it fine. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Sling shot effect, myth or reality?

Hey JD. It seems there's a really fine line when applying this principal. If we use all of the canopy's recovery arc we're already bleeding off speed by the time we enter the gate. If we shorten it too much and have to dig then we kill the energy we have by plaining out the wing. Somewhere in between these two is 'the powerband/slingshot/etc'. Yes it's a little (and I mean fractional) in the corner, but get it wrong and it's way less efficient that using more of the recovery arc IMO. Experience: All but 1 event on the FLCPA 2004 PST advanced qualified pilot edit: It's basically a juggling act of conserving as much speed as possible while entering the course by not using too much of the recover arc, and not being too low and using too much input. Well I tried the sharpie thing, but then I realized the bar code was on the DVD side, not the CD side DOH! So no luck there. I figure I must have a crappy player if other people are playing it fine so I'll try it at home 2night. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
-
Hey B!! Did the CD play before the sharpie thing? Or did you have problems too? Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
-
Well, it's definitely possible I just have a crappy player @ work. Will try it at home tonight and see what happens. Thanks! Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Hey Paige, Thanks, it's not too much of a problem cause I can use the DVD software to run it if need be. It just pisses me off to pay for something that won't work. I can't remember the last time I downloaded something off the web. I'm in a position now where I support the artists (and game developers) by buying their products. Of course, if they're trying to get me pissed off, saying Fuck It and downloading their shit, they're going about it the right way. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Good idea Zennie - I'll grab a CD from my car at lunch and try that. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Yep - no luck. Performance Designs Factory Team

Yeah I did some reading and it seems that it is. I understand why they did this, but a lot of us use computers for this kind of thing (like right now wanting to listen to it at work). I bugs me that I'm inconvenienced as a paying customer cause they're trying to stop something they simply can't. Hell, look at the gaming industry. Every time they find a new way to 'prevent' copying, they piss off paying customers and someone hacks the protection anyway. Grrrrrr. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Yes there is, but I'm somewhat reluctant to draw all over a cd with a sharpie!!! Performance Designs Factory Team
-
not because it isn't good (it is what I've heard so far) but I CANNOT play it in a computer cd player so far. Works on my home system (both the dvd and the cd), my car (the cd) and my computer(only the dvd section but I don't have that software installed at work). Anyone else having this problem? It's awesome to hear that still goes on. I hope your club never falls into the 'money-making' trap. Instill these ideas in the next generation to make sure it lives on. Efex is right though. There are some people who make their living this way. No-one expects them to do it for free. I'm happy I'm fortunate enough to not rely on skydiving for income (at this point) so giving free coaching is my way of giving back. Unfortunately not everyone has this option Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

I agree 100%. In South Africa, while the legal drinking age is 18 (and driving age), just about anyone who's 15/16 can walk into a bar and get a drink. Why, cause no one really cares. It's not taboo. The result I found to be exactly like you said. A LOT get the stupidity out of their system before they can drive. I know I did. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Here are mine. Zoomed in eyelashes look unusual though!

Yeah it's a bit of cash. Of course just about any quality suit is going to cost you around that mark. For example I believe FireFly (great suits) are 375 base. Making a jumpsuit that'll hold up and work well isn't easy. I know more than a few people who've tried and said it wasn't worth the trouble. You sure the person was making fun of you btw? I remember the FF clowns used to have diamonds like that. Sure it wasn't a reference you missed (just curious)? Nope. Blues! Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

I put a couple of jumps on a sonic 135 when I lived in SA. From what I remember it was a fun canopy and landed fine. At the time I was not doing front riser approaches so I don't know how it responds to those. Not much help, I know, but it's about all I got right now. Tonto could probably give you some better info. edit: I believe it was 'semi elliptical' Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
