Good luck getting a decent download speed though (or even a server that isn't overloaded). Blues! Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

So that's why you spend the whole skydive doing cartwheels ? Guess you're just constantly flipping then Blues! Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Cause head up's a shitload harder. That's why I pretty much spend all my time head up now. I think you'll see more head up flying in the near future Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

KARL'S FREEFLY BONANZA AT SKYKNIGHTS

Bought our tickets last night. Our times are the same as EJ's. See you there! Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -
I had a baglock on somewhere around jump 400. The reserve opened so hard that I was winded and my legs were bruised from the legstraps. It took me almost an entire season to relax during deployment again. Just take a deep breath. Remember you know what to do (You've proved it twice recently) and try to have fun. Unstowed I get (brake line failure) but why with your brakes stowed? Toggle hang up? Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
-
If your brakes are stowed you're getting input from your control lines until you unstow them. Trying to land a canopy with the brakes stowed on rear risers? Whatever for? To accomplish what you're looking for, simply unstow your brakes (like normal), keep them in your hands and fly around on rear risers as long as you wish. That'll get you used to flying around on risers. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

That is correct yes, but it is an ADVANCED landing technique (As Bill already pointed out, it's easy to do a high speed stall). Trust me when I tell you that a lot of people using rears to do HP landings really should be focusing on other techniques first but this is drifting the thread off topic. No, I'm saying you used a more dangerous option over a safer one available to you. Not saying you did something wrong, more I'm trying to point out to others who may find themselves in a similar situation than it could have been done safer via toggles. No offense intended. I've seen more than one person femur themselves going to rears during inappropriate situations. This is one of them IMO (inappropriate, not femur). Lately people have gotten obsessed with using rears low to the ground just to be trendy. Toggles are almost always a better option. Unless you have a broken line, the toggles are already in your hand. Plus they offer better slow speed flight characteristics than rears, which if done incorrectly will put you in the hurt locker. Should you learn to use rears? Absolutely. Just look around though, everyone suddenly thinks they need them to land properly. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Look up at your canopy. You should be trying to intersect the middle of the canopy with the horizon (like a sideways T). Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Carving yes thats HP, flat is not HP IMO. Two very different turns IMO. One keeps the canopy over your head and is a low speed approach, the other allows a dramatic change in direction with the canopy off to the side (or carving). A carving turn requires a significant amount of speed to do as the turn destroys your ability to create lift quickly. It's sure as hell not something I'd try with regular straight in speed. What you're describing is a carving turn but shouldn't be described as such as it creates confusion when compared to a braked flat turn (canopy overhead). I disagree. Of course if you hammer your toggles down all the way on a HP canopy and do a flat turn 100 feet above the ground then yes you're going to have problems, but that is a scenario for a carving turn. If you're coming in straight there's no reason quarter breaks with a flat turn can't be landed just fine. Different turns for different circumstances. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

The drawback of the other method is at least equally (more IMO) dangerous - creating a diving turn if done incorrectly. My personal beliefs (and what I pass on to others) is: If you're low enough that you needed to do a flat/braked turn, then you don't let your toggles back up. At least not quickly. If you think you have time you can VERY VERY slowly ease them up that way the canopy never really gets diving forward but the person can increase airspeed safely (if altitude permits) for an easier landing. Is that off of 'From one'? or do they have a new CD coming out? oh and.... Nice

Agreed. Cause people don't really BELIEVE they can die when they're having fun. The attitude needs to change, then the individual will seek out coaching. Till then it's a waste of everyone's time. Sorry if this sounds callous but sometimes the truth does. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team
