Between the epidual (sp?) and the passing of what could be called a 5lb brick....moms don't get enough respect! Guys/ Gals I'm hurt due to a hard landing. But to be honest of my 8 jumps almost all but 2 were what I call hard landings. Are there any bookfs / blogs dedicated to helping me not kill myself! Ah I think it's something like a 13in titanium rod...finally I can stop measuring from the crack of my ass.....this was a guy joke. Yeah one fluted titanium rod + 2 pins (one on top and one on the bottom). I'm told the rod will be mine to keep. The pins on the otherhand are up to me and the doctor. Depending on the level of risk I take and how my body works out. So they may be keepers as well. As for the larger bone, I think the Tibia broke into three large chunky bits and the fluted titanium rod was shoved in to keep them inline. The pins at the top and bottom are put in place to keep everything inplace. I'm told the Fibia will automaticly come back inline....kind of cool! As for a cast? No stinking cast! It's an overdone ace bandage thing with an L bracket. I was suppose to call the local doctor to set up PT.....but I don't remember much of it...but per the instructions that were given on paper I've been moving my toes and moving my foot around. I just hope it heals fast! Oh and the first poo.....ladies I'm very sorry about this but pleas don't ever have kids! Addopt! It's not worth it! Thank you so mcuh every one! The wife helped me take a shower this evening which was great! Not only did I get clean but the view was nice! As for what happend, well as a total n00b I most likely jumped into winds that were too strong for my abilities and totally got freaked out and did not flare not PLF. My instructor Sim has been great! He calls me more than my mother making sure I haven't died or anything! And I think I will be jumping again if he decides to stay at our DZ. Not only is he an amazing instructor but a hell of a guy. I've yet to get a total debrief yet but as soon as I can drive I'll head up and have a chat. If I had to guess, I would say I jumped in winds that were just way too much for my ability and totally half assed the flare and forgot about the PFL. So as McSwervy indicated I will need to take a canopy control course with hopes of being as comfertable under the silk as I was in the air. I just hope I recover quickly and with out too many issues. and in a way......I think this horrible accident may have saved my marrage. Oxycodon? They freaking suck! I feel like shit! And the "rod" hurts way more than the broken bone. A good family friend is a retired Orthopedic Dr. and he indicated that it would take me longer to recover from the rod than the broke bone. Shucks! Will I every fly again? No.....riding is kind of in the blood. Flying......that was and is in the heart. Maybe i'll jump again next summer if its ok with my wife. Every one, I just want to start off by saying thank you to every one for every bit of information you have offered me and welcoming me with open arms into the community. But this past Sunday around 14:00 I had a hard landing and broke my tib and fib in my right leg. It was a great AFP, I cleared the plane confident and happy, found my center and floated like a feather, turned 360 left, docked, undocked 360 right docked and was just tickled pink about how great it felt to fly and be one with the universe. I pulled at 5.5kft and had a perfect deployment, thank you so much Alaksa, but at from then it kind of went to crap. I wasn't comfertable and was feeling a lot of turbulance on the way down. I hit some good ones at about 300ft but keept it cool and all was ok. But I noticed I was comming in very hot and at about 20 ft I cought a down draft and the sky gods put me down hard. I felt a snap and I knew my wife was going to kill me. Long story short I broke the bit and fib and now I have a rod in my leg. I feel like crap and these pain killers really suck! But I'm I've gotten multiple readings of the xrays and it looks as if I'll be ok. I hope to at least be driving in 4 weeks and maybe walking in 6. Will I ever jump again? I don't know. My wife says she would support me if I decided to jump again but I don't know if I could put her in this position again. No mate I'm the worlds worst speller. At home I use Firefox which has the auto spell check featuer which saves my ass but at work we use IE which does not. Also due to security the spell check feature on ths page does not work. And as such I'm more prone to making spelling errors ie fat fingering here than I am at home.
