Ann, it get's better, it always does. I've lived thru soo much crap and Drama, I'm amazed that I got thru it all intact. Just never give up FAITH. And your family is always there for you, and we are one big family :)

UH HELLO!!! What am I? CHopped Liver? Seruiously Zennie, the Bay area got hit REALLY hard in IT. I was out of work for 4 months and know people who've been out for 9 months or more. Companies are being PITA's and reqwuiring EXACT experience for their market. I have seen quite a few postings for for Legal tech support that would only accept resumes with law experience.Sac is a different animal and is cheaper to live. Davis, (which is actually to the west) is about half n hour out of Old Sac. Lodi is south and about half n hour (weren't you commenting on the poser from Lodi?). You could always LIVE in Davis, your wife can commute to Sac and you come this way to SF If you are serious, try www.dice.com and do a seach in the 916 area code for your job title. Terri's suggestion is a decent one. However, I work for University of California and there's talk of a hiring freeze to help with the 12 billion deficit. Seems some frickin Texan's took advantage of the power market :) Anything I can do to help, just ask Gary

in reply to SkyBitch Oh well, at least the $7/hour you'll make will buy food.... Yeah cause it sure as hell won't pay the rent

same here!!! Been lurking for a year now....

10 ft per floor? Is that about right? That seems about the height from floor to suspended ceiling. There's another 2 ft or so usually between that and I'd guess at least a foot thickness for the floor. Is there a BASE way to estimate height?

I was out for 4 months over the summer here in No Cal which was f'in scary. I think I had 2 interviews not including the 5 I had to do for this job. I have NEVER been out of work for more than 3 weeks at any one time. Also, I just hired an entry level tech and posted on www.dice.com. I got over 400 resumes and ended up interviewing 15 people. some people had 10-12 years experience and were applying for ENTRY LEVEL grunt work

Well I don't know about Terri ;) but it's just a joke. I know exactly what you are saying and while I may jest about it here, in real life it's no joking matter. To put in perspective, I've had the opportunity to travel to Europe on business and at the time there was quite a bit of bombings going on and had opportunities to be interrogated over an external HD. Last thing anyone wanted to do was crack a joke while going thru customs. NO JOKING MATTER

In reply to: Oh yeah.....are you saying you look at a lot of 60 year old naked chics? Do you like em that old? I think when I'm that old I'll just leave the bath robe on during sex..... At 60, those puppies will be hanging out from under the bathrobe

Andrea wrote: "more than a mouthful isn't good anyway"? Handful, mouthful, it's all the same :) Course you'd need hiking boots to traverse those... but what the hell.....

I think this is the same job I mentioned to Merrick http://jobs.ucop.edu:8080/FMPro?-db=jobs.fp4&-format=jobdetails.html&-lay=main&-sortfield=date_edited&-sortorder=descend&approved=Yes&storage=No&edit_listing=No&mngr_approved=Yes&job_category=Technical&-max=10&-recid=32816&-find Excellent understanding of structured programming techniques and software documentation. Programming skills in one or more languages such as C, Java, and Perl. Basic knowledge of HTTP protocols and servers including CGI programming. Basic relational database experience. Experience with developing dynamic web content based on XML objects a plus. Abilty to create functional and unambiguous user interfaces based on detailed specifications. Basic Solaris systems administration skills. Interest and experience in academic digital library services a plus. Ability to work as a team member in an informal and unstructured environment, and to work independently and undertake tasks which are minimally defined and highly complex. I can at least get your resume on the right person's desk instead of some faceless HR person. Man if I only knew Solaris........

Only 247 jumps to go and then I can sign up :) So if I'm reading the web page correctly, it's about $60 to register and another $16 per jump?
-
So true.... Then again, there is a LOT of functionality from command line. Can you ping or tracert from GUI? Can you stop and start services in a batch file?
-
All I can do is smile :) Welcome back home!!!!!
