Funny I have more than a few jumps (aprox 500) on a Mirage G4 correctly measured for me with no such problem. How do know that the harnesses were measured correctly and fit right? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

How to make an AFF instructor happy?
diablopilot replied to sebinoslo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Show up having studied the material to be covered. Know the dive flow, and be receptive. You'll do great! ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
how many sigma tm's clear risers in event of bag lock?
diablopilot replied to skydiveoc's topic in Tandem Skydiving
Did you ever grab the main risers before the breakaway? I've cleared a bag lock/hesitation that way more than once. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Why is static line a dying discipline?
diablopilot replied to kmills0705's topic in Safety and Training
I'll give you that, but I'll argue that S/L-IAD students are better canopy pilots in those 25 jumps. We don't have a whole lot of people dying in freefall these days you know..... I'd really favor a hybrid program.....a couple tandems focusing on canopy work, and initial fear reduction, then 3 or 4 S/L-IAD jumps for canopy skills followed by 4 or 5 AFF levels. Why should we pressure a novice to learn so many aspects on one jump? Many of them are overwhelmed to the point that instructors de-emphasize canopy work, and focus on just the freefall to "get the student through". The student never gets that needed canopy work and specific briefings, never is given the opportunity to focus on just canopy flight. Something has got to change. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
"the flip flop jumper"
diablopilot replied to blueskiesbill's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yes I have. You'd better have a pretty nice landing area, and good landing skills though. I've either put my flip flops in my jumpsuit until the canopy was open, or I've taken a rubber band, larks headed it to the flip flop strap and then put it over my big toe. I pretty much stopped doing it and barefoot jumps for the most part when I started jumping high performance canopies. Foot injuries are a bitch to get healed. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
As we all know that doesn't mean it's a good idea. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Bill you probably know Ralf Stinson. He has done a few of the 30,000 ft jumps at Davis with his camera set up. It's an open face type Bonehead (I think it's a BatRak) but I imagine any front entry chin cup helmet will work. He added a set of the connectors that a standard military type mask integrates with. Chris over a BH should have plenty of tips on how to get this done with the amount of work he does with the military. I would absolutely NOT do a jump over 25,000 with anything other than the proper breathing equipment, i.e. a specific bailout style mask. This does not include the medical style masks. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I'll agree with Kris on this one. It's not the device that matters, but who's using it and how it's used. I've seen good coaches/instructors use it well but the bulk communication happens before the flier is ever in the air, and it's only used for short one or two word "reminders". When a long communication happens you literally watch the flier stop flying, sink to the net, and focus on listening. Is that really how someone should be spending $10 a minute? In AFF I've seen the same thing. It's very valuable for a one word reminder like "arch" or "legs" for a student who is very overwhelmed. It takes a step out of the translation needed with a hand signal. But beyond that it's effectiveness for a student is questionable. In the tunnel a good briefing, between flight communications, and simple hand signal reminders are similarly effective. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Advise you videographer that if not absolutely sure of the exit timing, they should "Peal" off the aircraft after the tandem. This will make if near impossible to get into one of the danger areas. Remember if you're on a Vector or Sigma system the videographer must have a a minimum of 100 camera jumps as well, and just wearing a camera while skydiving doesn't count. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.
