Freefall/Paraglider collision
diablopilot replied to nigel99's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yep. I found the bulk of the effort and risk lies with the PG pilot. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
From multiple sources including an "A" license card signed by a jumper who has no ratings according to the USPA. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Which is why you're the only instructor I would ever send someone to down there if I had to. Hell, now they've even got up jumpers without ratings doing AFF jumps and signing off UPSA license requirements. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Where might that be in the FAR's? It's not in the FAR's. However it is in the FAA FSIMS 8900.1 document which is guidance to the FSDO's. Volume 3, Chapter 6, Section 1, Part 3-150 sub F. http://fsims.faa.gov/PICDetail.aspx?docId=1A1C9ED8BC5A40638525734F00766576 These are the flight standards that FSDO's are supposed to use when issuing certificates of waiver or authorization. This document and section were brought to the USPA's attention by FAA HQ after the viewing of the Shannon Sharpe demo into Mile Hi Stadium. The DZ and USPA covered all bases when it issued the waiver for the demo, and I must say the jumpers involved pulled it off very well. The local FSDO made the error of not following the 8900.1 guidance. Now that it's been pointed out, the USPA has indicated it will not be approving any more waivers for Level 2 or Stadium Tandem jumps until such time that the document has been changed. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Wow, something that looks worse than the ugliest Police car of all times, the Dodge Diplomat. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I'll give it a shot when I'm not busy relocating... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

The MLW looks ok, the lateral looks short for your body. Was the rig built for someone slim? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Where to get A-Certified Cheaply

Not all of them. And you could shop around but there is the cost of getting and staying there..... Of course I always look for budget rates when finding my brain surgeon..... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
I'd say the point to be taken here is that EVERY TI out there can and probably has tanked an exit. It happens. I am VERY sure that the TI in this video is aware of the risks involved with an unstable drogue toss and doesn't need a crucifixion to learn a lesson about it here. However, here is a lesson on controlling our media collectively as a sport. Why a major company like Red Bull who has resources to spare, or even an individual who doesn't would put a mistake out there like this for public consumption is confusing. Not only can it have the effect of endorsing "cowboy" behavior in the eyes of those don't know any better, but it opens up the door of liability. I've worked for DZ's that don't care about the product that leaves the video room, and in this day of public media access I think that is a scary position. Other DZ's will have a "video mal" if something not suitable for public consumption is shot. The bigger challenge these days is every Joe on the DZ has a GoPro on their head and many have no judgment about what is sensible to post, and what should be kept under tight wraps. Too often it's an ego and a desire to "have the cool shot" that prevail. Does the hypothetical person with the great shot of the airplane diving after a tandem exit realize that the N-number is visible? The FAA has already told our people at USPA HQ that they are looking at social media sites including YouTube. They have commented on winsuits flying by tandems, they pointed out that tandem demos into stadiums are against FAA policy. There are eyes out there, and they are not limited to the FAA. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Going by the fact I know at least one instructor at each DZ (and one has posted in this thread) I'd highly recommend you head to Taft and see Alex Layne. He's professional with sound judgment, and friendly to boot. Good luck with your AFF and remember to "pull your strings" and have fun.

I haven't removed them to pack for the 5+years I've been using them. No problems. More potential for damage to the 4 point under the "mud flap" by removing it all the time. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Ron Paul is my political hero right now. Unfortunately the media has little love for him so it's an uphill battle for the man.... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

You miss the point. Do you really believe in the concept of "good enough"? If so, remind me never to let you pack for me. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Simpler? Maybe. A symptom, and contributing cause to a problem? Yep. There are shrinking numbers of people that consider themselves "Americans" and that loss of national pride will be one of the contributing factors to the downfall of this country. My Grandparents on my father's side emigrated to this country. Both of them became Americans. The retained customs, and memories of the cultures they came from, but they actively participated in becoming members of an American society. My mother emigrated to this country, and has done the same. It's happening that way much less frequently now. Emigrants are setting up mirrors of their existing cultures and not even attempting to assimilate. Rapidly there is the "melting pot" is disappearing. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
-
Exactly. This is America. We can speak any damn language we want. And there's enough infastructure to not have a need for learning english. You talk as if English is the official language here. Well it is required to earn citizenship. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

John, when you say as much nothing as you do, people just stop caring if you think you're right. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

So did the pilot tell you it was a safe thing to do? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Really unimpressed with arrogant twatmuppets.

Here I thought no heli jump was more scary than a Robinson, but I'd say an over loaded Enstrom takes the cake. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
