diablopilot replied to jpickens's topic in Safety and Training
Vector SE is TSO-C23-B according to their own manual. that is 254lbs exit weight. Javelin says theirs is rated for 300lbs, yet is manufactured under C23-D, which contradicts what Reflex says above. I know for a fact that Wings will handle it, but if you call and ask, they will say NO. Smart 250 reserve - NO, you are mistaken. Optimum 253 reserve - NO, you are mistaken PD 281 reserve - NO, you are mistaken ----------------- so again, my whole point is - are you going to stand in a court of law and try to explain why you were COMPLETELY outside of the manufacturers recommendations when you are in that lawsuit? Now go look up the definition of 'gross negligence' - because that is what they will sue you for. waiver or not. I worked pretty fuckin' hard to get where i am today, and I am not going to risk it all for someone I do not even know. If that 255 guy wants to skydive bad enough, he will knock off 20-30 lbs. No different than if I want to be an astronaut bad enough, I will go back to school, get my degrees, bust my ass for 10 years in research, apply for and do whatever they tell me to do to get there. But for now, I STILL want to be an astronaut - and they are NOT going to let me.....that is MY problem, not theirs. TK Not only should this one post be saved/stickied at the top of the instructor forum, it should be required reading and discussion for anyone getting an instructional rating. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Nice that some people still seem to have pride in something. I just wish people would remember the flag isn't a piece of clothing. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Never had a problem till last week. Then twice. I'm keeping an eye on it but haven't found an issue yet. Container is an Infinity, but that shouldn't make a difference. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I'm just curious... which do you think most distracts a jumper from their own personal awareness? 1. Jumping out with another person who you intend to coach; matching their fall rate, paying attention to their form, watching their maneuvers, watching their track at break-off. or 2. Jumping with a GoPro on your helmet? The jump with the GoPro. The jump with the coach has been planned practiced and has taken into account safety and contingency plans. The majority of low time GoPro jumps think it's all about "fire and forget", do not plan for contingencies, do not consider the safety aspects, but then try to "fly camera". It's only hundreds of years and tens of thousands of jumps worth of skydiving experience that is saying this over, and over, and over, and over, and over...... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. I'll argue it does work, and I've got more than a few examples to prove it.

I heard that Mel beats people with rubber chickens, Hammo breaths fire, Brianne and Niklas cook and eat every 5th or 6th student, and DSE, well..... he puts his used chewing gum in the student helmets. Miss the Elsinore peeps!

What deployment method do you have on your primary sport rig?
diablopilot replied to DocPop's topic in Gear and Rigging
Now don't go confusing the issue with CRW rigs. They're in their own world! At the 2008 USPA nationals I noticed some of them seemed to be jumping a hybrid setup... pilot chute in a BOC, but pullout pin to open the container. Actually ripcord cable from the PC to the closing loop if I remember correctly. But look at the attached photo and decide if you want to take gear advice from those guys. Dave Next thing we'll be hearing the "it's an out of sequence deployment" argument. Uhh....in that case, so is your reserve. As for advice from "those guys", yeah I'd listen up. Not only are they some of the best canopy pilots in the world, they actually KNOW something about their gear, as opposed to a largeish portion of modern sport jumpers. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. diablopilot replied to DocPop's topic in Gear and Rigging
I've never had a problem. 4000ish jumps on pullouts. 400ish wingsuit jumps on pullouts. 500ish paid pack jobs on pullouts. I've had one problem EVER, related to a pullout and that's because I failed to maintain my rig properly. YMMV ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. No I wasn't. The photo is the property of the tandem passenger. The photographer also has rights to it in this case because of the contract signed. Neither one has posted it to this thread. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

It's not only bad form, but illegal to publish a photo without the photographers permission. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

What stills camera are you using for skydiving
diablopilot replied to crashtested's topic in Photography and Video
Nope. Not everybody. Just you and guys like you who think they know it all, ask advice until they get the answer they like, and generally become the type to lead others down a dangerous path. Actually, I think it was you who jumped up and asked for it. When someone who has more experience with you shares their opinion, and you loudly proclaim it to be wrong with your limited time and experience to back it up, don't be surprised when I don't agree with you. Of course the proper thing to do at that point is scream loudly from the other side of the world about how you know everything that is true and good, and someone who is much closer and involved in the situation should be ignored. Hey, like I said, any time you're feeling froggy..... From "Sam" Mmmmm, K. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
How do you teach Emergancy Procedures (Cutting Away)
diablopilot replied to TheRanchPROshop's topic in Instructors
Not impossible, just difficult. I had to use two hands on a tandem break away last year (broken riser) and if that hadn't of worked I was going to have to risk putting a reserve past a trailing main. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Hey, since you like to send threatening PM's but don't allow replies I just thought I'd let you know, I'd love to take you up on your offer, but I'm no longer in the neighborhood. Feel free to get froggy any time however.... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
