What's Jeb Corliss doing?
diablopilot replied to skydiverkeith's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm guessing he's busy having fun, living life, and being amused people think he's important enough to warrant a thread all about him on dorkzone.com ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
All the reason needed to "teach" rather than do "rides".
diablopilot replied to diablopilot's topic in Tandem Skydiving
Hopefully my point hasn't been missed. Nothing wrong with doing one, or three, or ten.... just that if the opportunity is given on ANY tandem, you might just find a long term customer, and heck maybe even another skydiver. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Got a point to make or is this just a circle jerk? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Lots of immigration talk. Here is a question
diablopilot replied to dgskydive's topic in Speakers Corner
I agree. But I also know that employers looking for cheap labor will hire these illegals whenever possible to do the work that we legal americans probably wouldn't think of doing. You bet! Thinking back, In my younger years, I DID some of those jobs that some folks won't do now. You know what the problem is? Those folks who won't do certain jobs, just haven't been hungry enough. I've stocked grocery shelves, swept floors in a truck garage, worked in warehouses, mucked stalls and some others. Chuck Know why they are not "hungry enough"? Because and entitlement generation has seen to it there are enough governmental agencies to bail out deadbeats. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. A DZO may do as they like, but I'd argue a USPA S&TA or Instructor who does not follow the recommendations published is showing weak judgement, and is opening themselves (and the organization)to increased liability. But that's just my opinion and it's widely know that I'm an asshole. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Choice of Handle - The Facts (Plastic vs. Freefly vs. Hackey)
diablopilot replied to kellja2001's topic in Gear and Rigging
For students I prefer the plastic handle, as it's light weight, and easy to grasp. It is unlikely to bang around and be dislodged in unstable higher speed situations. It does not put undue wear on the P/C attachment point. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
What deployment method do you have on your primary sport rig?
diablopilot replied to DocPop's topic in Gear and Rigging
Great, he has an opinion. I don't think it hold more weight than other experienced opinions, and I don't agree with it. There is nothing unstable about my deployment, and I have 3000 "small elliptical jumps to prove it. Having seen video of my deployments, I CAN get the P/C outside the burble every time all day long. What a bullshit argument. A pull out deploy in the EXACT same sequence as a reserve. The advantage to a pullout is that I can place my P/C into the airstream OUTSIDE the burble every time all day long. If I could have a pull out reserve, I would. Nonsense. The original problem with wingsuits and pullouts stems from manufacturers traditionally using a shorter bridal for a pullout. A shorter bridal has been used in the past as a "snatch" is not needed to open the container. I've got 400 wingsuit jumps on a pull out with a 9 food bridal (that also happen to be on "small ellipticals") with NO malfunctions, or hesitations. Now that the pullout tuck tab pud has been copied and called a "freefly handle" you may have a point. This is not a problem with the system, it's a problem with training. The EXACT same scenario has occurred just as often with a "hard pull" on a throw out. What nonsense. A pull out is no harder to operate than any of the other systems, and simply owing to the fact that ripcord and spring loaded pilotchutes used to be the norm, shows that training is the issue. People used to say "No one in their right mind would start students on a throw out." Great, that's peoples choice. Don't believe the hype. There are way too many generalizations in Mr. Booth's statements. Either system functions well, it is up to the user to know how to properly operate the equipment they choose. Neither system is "better" than the other. Each has it's benefits, and flaws. The scare tactics used to sell one system over the other are bull. I could argue that the pullout is safer in regard to the horseshoe malfunction, or that a throw out wears out P/C's and pockets faster (both items which Mr. Booth sells). But that too would be a BS scare tactic. Use your heads people, and figure out how each system works, and why it does what it does well. The choose wisely for YOU. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -

I can add one that I've used on a student. Vector II tandem rig converted to throw out BOC operation. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
As an aside, I cringe when I hear people talk about beating RSL's. Most of the time when people say they have beaten the RSL, they have in fact come very very close to an out of sequence, perhaps even having one. On most rigs the window to be the RSL the time it takes to fall 8 to 14 inches from your main riser(s). If you have ANY sort of hang up in the breakaway process you will now be out of sequence, and the resulting problems could prove fatal. The single hand per handle method requires a pause in between breakaway and the reserve handle pull that must be drilled into the jumper's procedures. It doesn't need to be a long pause, but I'd suggest that it needs to be slightly longer than the RSL needs to activate. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Either method is acceptable, provided it is trained and used correctly. I have used the one hand per handle method on 25 of my breakaways (3 of which have been spinning mals), and 2 hands to break away from a spinning mal on a tandem because it was needed. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. diablopilot replied to jpickens's topic in Safety and Training
Re-read the thread or do some investigation and you'll see that many of the choices you listed will NOT work for a 300 lb exit weight. In addition I would suggest that you study the effects of altitude density on the maximum operating limitations on parachute equipment. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. I believe that $26 per jump includes recouping the initial investment for the rig, something most sport jumpers are not concerned with. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Maybe they should. If the FAA "standard passenger" for computing weight and balance is 170lbs, then how out far out of limits is an aircraft filled with AB's? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
How it all started - The Birdman Prototype

there was a recent article on the history of wingsuits in Parachutist... I think that's the one being referred to here... i think it was by Taya though I should double check. Yep, it was also an example of how history can be re-written way to easily, sometimes unintentionally. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.
