  1. No but he thought he was better than the rest. Hell he told people that on a regular basis, even after experts in the field watched him and told him he wasn't. He ignored advice on a regular basis. He was somewhat proficient in a semi related field, but even then he was writing checks that his skills would eventually not be able to cash. Fortunately for the many people he could have put in harms way, he hadn't yet. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  2. What should we do about it? Tell them they are fucking up? Other than that, we have no teeth. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  3. How do you think it feels when someone who came to you for advice, gets seriously injured or dies? Do you think you might kick yourself forever for not having done enough to show them they were pushing too hard? You ever think how it might feel to hold someone as you watch their last breath bubble out between their lips? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  4. It doesn't, but you may have a hard time convincing the kool-aid drinkers of that. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  5. I've made 53 jumps without wearing a rig. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  6. You have 550 Spectra on a Spectre. I would stick with that. It's as small as you'll get from PD without other associated problems. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  7. It's not that there are even that many of the assholes, it's just they are so flippin loud...... It' people like you that make skydiving instruction worth it.
  8. I think I love you. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  9. I'd go the other way if possible. Why try to learn everything all at once? Do a couple IAD's and learn to fly and land a parachute without the distraction of freefall. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  10. And in their wisdom they have decided to make a "professional educator" like yourself jump through the same hoops as everyone else. Thank goodness for that. Did you have a point or are you just being offensive? Yes. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  11. That's what some of us have been pushing for for the last 5 to 7 years. It's not working. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  12. I'll say good you. For being receptive to the ability to learn something new about working with students. To be willing to change methods. To being open enough to share it with others. Thanks you.
  13. That's a continual problem the USPA BOD seems to have. Holding S&TA's, instructional rating holders, and Group Members to any sort of standard. Group Members with repeated BSR and FAR violations are allow to remain members. Instructors with the same violations are allowed to keep ratings, and they are not held to a standard of instruction. S&TA's are not given the tools needed to do the job. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  14. I've been thinking this for a few years. I'd like 2 or 3 tandems, 3 to 4 SL/IAD, and 3 to 4 AFF. Best of all worlds. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  15. Pack it up and jump again. It will get better. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  16. But where is the clarification that says which instructions? I know a loft that has just about every manual made for a parachute. The have every AD issued on a parachute. And they update frequently. When working on a 20 year old rig, if they have a manual that was current at the time of manufacture, are they obligated to find a newer one? What if the manual was from last month, and the new manual changed today? The FAA inspector's standard is unenforceable. The FAA has taken the position that they don't want to be involved in regulation because they don't want to issue AD's but they want to enforce actions that they have no standards on? I don't think so. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  17. Just understand that many instructors have seen the "I wanna go fast, skip a bunch of steps, I'm better than the rest, you're holding me back, recognize my madskillz" type of person, who have said the exact same thing you just said. Most of them have not been ready for what they have tried, some have been hurt, some have been killed. I am not saying you are that type, I have no way of telling. But you'll impress your instructors if you keep those desires pretty quiet for a while. If you don't appear to be a glory hound you'll impress them. If you show thought and caution, understanding that the road to your goal is not fast, and takes effort, then you'll probably find them helpful. Become friends with them, and don't turn away from them simply because after you have a license they don't always tell you what you want to hear. Good luck.

  19. If I were said rigger that received the complaint from the FAA, I'd tell them to go hang for two reasons. One, if it's not an AD, it's optional, and not enforceable. Two, there is no clarity to what equipment is affected under the manufacturer's newly imposed rule. If I were the reporting rigger, I think I'd be watching out for a punch in the nose. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  20. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/suffolk/3330045.stm Sounds like the pilot accidentally reduced power when trying to transition to forward flight. I love this line: What was the advice? "Next time DON'T TOUCH THAT!" ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  21. Probably not. My current canopy combinations fit into a container size that I am happy with. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  22. With the USPA, 25 jumps is the minimum for an 'A' license so it shouldn't take any more jumps with one vs the other. I think IAD often produces better canopy pilots, and that's a big deal since that's the biggest area of risk of injury and/or death. IAD is often done at DZ's operating smaller aircraft, so you may be in for a bit of a shock when you travel to a busy DZ, but briefings and caution can mitigate this. Cost can be a factor, and if it is, take the route that's going to leave you with more options once training is over. Money saved can go towards gear, and more jumps. Have fun either way! ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  23. Not true. We're on the FAA's radar any time some blatant FAR violation circulates around YouTube enough for a staffer to notice. Then Randy O. at USPA HQ hears about it. Examples: Wingsuits through and around clouds, and they really got excited when they saw them swooping tandems. Aircraft exceeding limitations on descent. Tandem Demos into Stadiums. Helicopter jumps with BASE equipment. Once we become noticed enough, you can expect the hammer to come down. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  24. You mean like they did when the instituted the USPA Tandem Instructor rating? And have failed to enforce a standard high enough to give the manufacturers cause to discontinue their ratings as originally planned? Ooops. You mean like the have with the wingsuit BSR? Or with minimum pull altitudes? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  25. Count me in this time. Who says an old dog can't learn new tricks? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
