  1. Especially now that some greenie decided to move the thread into the Bonfire. I guess boobies will be next ... If the thread was started with a sincere title it would have had a chance to survive...some greenie was absoultly right in moving this thread...I personally thought it would be deleted givin the agnst this week with SDA's new rules being brough forward. Safety at boogies is a serious topic best addressed in the safety and training forum by someone not out to just make a point of there displeasure with swoopers being targeted by some safety nazies. Assuming something just makes an ass out of you ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  2. Anyone know how or why this thread got moved? And who to talk to about it? It's skydiving related, and serious. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  3. Ah, but in the US we suposidly follow some pretty strict requirements when conducting demos. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  4. This makes about as much sense as banning 270s. Maybe that was JP's point? No way? and we come right back to the second post of the thread about it going to the recycle bin... bitching and whinning threads ..... esp when there are already countless ongoing threads for a swooper to vent his/her frustrations.
  5. By that logic as proven by the most recent fatality, they are not. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  6. The sad thing is this thread will not get the attention it deserves because it attacks something people approve of. As proven on DZ.com and on DZ's world wide, people rarely want to look at the root causes of an accident, but would much rather find a relaively non-offensive, and non-personal restrictive scape goat to hang the whole thing on, and then forget it ever happend. Point is, boogies are increasing the number of fatalities occuring every year. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  7. AFAIK the Skyventure approved procedure for learning head down requires a seperate "Coach" in the tunnel with the student, as from the approved spotting position the "Instructor" is unable to comunicate with the student. If an instructor thinks that this is "harder work" they should pass on the session. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  8. I wouldn't say it was banned, but yes, based on it's length, it was a pretty risky event to attend. Even if you were not jumping. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  9. Really? Why so? There have been at least 6 fatalities in the last 3 months at boogies. Boogies are statistically higher risk events. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  10. How does this policy address the most recent canopy collision at SDAZ? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  11. Discuss. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  12. Has there been any thought to the fact that the landing areas might just not be big enough to safely operate that many aircraft? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  13. Careful, Quade will be telling you how "gay" you look shortly. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  14. My personal feeling is their policy will fail. There will always be one of the "chosen" that will get away with a swoop or two here and there before long the policy will crumble. It's happened before. That's why the temporary rules didn't work. No one wants to enforce them. Think they'll be strong enough to boot a jumper over on a 2 week holiday from Europe for an infraction knowing when he/she leaves, they may take their 4 or 5 friends, plus spouses with them down the road to another DZ? We've all seen it before. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  15. Always buy the insurance. It turns even the wimpiest rental car into a wicked off road vehicle. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  16. And that is a testiment to your owners and the structure of your school. Unfortunately the AFF rating certifies someone to be an instructor on their own. Perhaps an improvement would be a requirement to be an "intern" with a profesional school, but unlike doctors or nurses there is no requirement at an AFFI to show proficiency, skill or contined education post rating course graduation. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  17. In fact they are not. Other DZ's have lead in this area far longer than SDAZ, and it's a shame since SDAZ has been pioneering in advancing the level of skydiving in the past 10 years. Airspeed, SDU, AZTraining Center, SDSV, Flight Club.....the list goes on. But other DZ's have seen the future of canopy piloting and planned for it. Elsinore did it long ago with seperate landing areas and a pond. Perris, Lake Wales, Skydive Oregon, Skydive Chicago, Colorado, have all found ways to incorporate this aspect of skydiving. SDAZ is putting their foot down and that is their perogitive. The have through this action said they care little for the history of skydiving (style and accuracy) and the future (canopy piloting) and are in it for the money. They have voted with their actions as to what they think skydiving should and will be. And I will vote too. With my wallet and my feet. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  18. The fact you're willing to trust that a device will make up for your inaction and prevent your death is truely scary. If you'd like to do an experiment proving your "faith", I got $125.00 (the cost of a cutter) that says you won't let your Cypres save you on your next jump. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  19. The fact that anyone has led you to believe that the hour is "harder work" than anything else is disheartening. It means someone is really not into their job nor providing the same level of service to all. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  20. Not getting out of the plane would have saved them too. Not pulling a handle in time is a mistake. Not having an AAD is not. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  21. Not lately. The AFFI rating has become so easy to obtain, and DZ's have been so willing to fire volumes of jumpers through a cookie cutter course that the overall skill of an "A" licenced jumper is pitiful. Does 400 jumps and 18 months in the sport make an AFF instructor? How about when 90% of said jumps are 4 way, or Freefly? What about when said instructor rarely packs for themselves and has next to no knowledge of the gear they jump? When they jump a canopy they are scared of, and yell at people for "getting to close to them under canopy". When they can be heard bitching about bad spots all day but never check it themselves? When they have already been seen charging coach students $50 a jumps for their "expertise". Most importantly what kind of students does that person turn out? In the current system they MAY be qualified to supervise someone through an AFF lever, but in NO WAY are they competent enough to train and produce a "Skydiver". ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  22. No they made a mistake in not pulling prior to impact and if a person believes ANYTHING else will save you from death, they're a retard. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  23. Can it be done? Yes. Safely? Yes. A good rigger could help you make some changes. Is it the best option? No. It will be expensive. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  24. what did I miss? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
