Swooping banned at SD Arizona
diablopilot replied to Treejumps's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Thats not what was stated at the begining of this thread. It said no turns greater than 180 at SDAZ period. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
How much different type of instructors should earns?
diablopilot replied to camamel's topic in Instructors
I'll absolutly disagree with that statement. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
How much? I'm excited Saturn has stepped up in the market, hopefuly keeping up the quality too. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

You got out above 2000 ft? Pussy. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Pilots are NOT "dime a dozen"!
diablopilot replied to JumpShipGypsy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Wait till the first time a wet behind the ears pilot stalls the king air you're floating on. Then think of yourself as the tandem instructor still in a spinning out of control plane for 4000 ft. I don't mind a heads up pilot flying me in a proper jump ship, but a KA ain't it. And cocky ego pilots who think they know what's up from day one can take a hike too. I'd pay more for a good pilot. It's the bigges part of the skydive I can't control. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Why do people have this retarded idea that the degree of turn causes a problem or that less than a 270 is "safe"? 180's are more dangerous in trafic than a 270. The problem is hook turns done improperly in traffic. Period. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Most tandem packers I know, started on tandem rigs. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Well these look like they open pretty good, and land real well. So what's the problem? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

There was a big problem with that at the first tunnel I worked for. SO here is what we as instructors came up with. You're "instructing" (doing your job for your hourly fee) when you're on the clock. This means you provide the same levele of service to everyone, and expect no additional compensation. You can "coach" but you need to be off the clock, and not responsible for your "instructor duties" (saftey and spots) meaning these should be another instructor in the tunnel on the clock. At this point is is not out of line to expect or request compensation for your efforts. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

It's called a canopy transfer, and no one seems to teach it anymore. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Swooping banned at SD Arizona
diablopilot replied to Treejumps's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I think you missunderstood. I am a huge suporter of policies banning hookturns in crowded/dangerous situations like bigways or boogies. Canopy piloting is part of Nationals now. That means large turns. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Swooping banned at SD Arizona
diablopilot replied to Treejumps's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Well this is disapointing. What had potential to be something everyone could learn from and become more aware canopy pilots no matter what wing they fly, has degenerated as expeted into a rip on "swoopers". If this policy is as stated, I will not attend events at SDAZ till lifted. I wonder how they expect to conduct a Nationals again with said policy? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Really? Who said that? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Well if everyone thought like that, we'd still have crappy 500 sq ft F111 mains. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

That's awsome. I can't believe anyone would actually get on a skydiving aircraft, not knowing how to get out in case of an emergency. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Every one of those people named is a skydiver who has learned to think for themselves. Many skydivers do not. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Yes - you need to take responsibility for your own actions in the air, but having additional safety devices to improve your chances of surviving high stress emergency situations makes a hell of a lot more sense than not having them. The ban AADs comment is sensationalist rubbish. The suggestion that people feel safer from wearing AADs and therefore take less safe actions in the sky is about as supportable as the suggestion that the people in these recent incidents didn't clear their airspace properly because they figured they had a reserve parachute if anything went wrong. Maybe we should ban reserves. Why stop there? None of these would have happened if people didn't feel safe jumping out of airplanes. Why not ban parachutes? Or airplanes? Let me see if I can show you something. Saftey devices DO often cause people to overlook saftey. I jump high performance highly loaded main parachutes with occasionaly questionable opening habits. I WOULD NOT jump them if I did not have a reserve parachute. However I would continue to skydive. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Often when a lineset is replaced, a drastic change in openings is experience, somtimes for the better and sometimes worse. What is not often noticed is the gradual change in openings that happens over the life of the old lineset. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Looks thinner than the Onyx. Traditional crossbracing or the same as on the Onyx? Longer lineset in perportion to the size of the canopy than the Onyx? That was probably my biggest problem with the Onyx, the lineset felt way too short, killing a lot of potential dive. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.
