  1. My husband (occasionally known here on dropzone.com as SkyDaemon) and I are proud to announce that yesterday we were married. In the eyes of the governments of Multnomah County and the State of Oregon, we are wed. The officiating judge, with excellent humor and happiness for us both, only screwed up the "Husband and Wife... er.. I mean Husband and Husband" once. His clerk who acted as a witness was cheering and crying for us both. She thought this was the best thing to come through the courtroom in ages. The judge told us he was surprised that we were the first to come to him for the ceremony. Apparently almost all of the other 1400 couples who married in Portland in the last week have chosen members of the clergy to perform religious ceremonies for them. Our last-minute party that evening was fantastic with champagnes and caviar and fois gras pate and cakes of all sorts

  3. You simultaneously declare me a liberal then criticize me for not being good at it? I hereby declare you a martian although since you are shaped just like a human being I want you to know that you're a TERRIBLE martian. So there. Jeez... some people want it to be all personal and can't even do that well. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  4. This conversation was directly relevant to the conversations going on in the other gay marriage threads. My summary: Marriage advances mature, mutually supportive family values which promote a stable society. Non-married relationships encourage promiscuity, AIDS, broken homes, one-parent children, and dependency on government support. Therefore gay marriage is the path to fidelity and stability. Banning gay marriage establishes a constitutional mandate for loose morals, societal instability, and death by disease. Go figure. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  5. I've been told that I've been breaking the "no sarcasm" rule and a major banning is imminent. So far, so good. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  6. If it's got your return address the one thing you can be sure of is that they're not coming from your computer. And there's nothing you can do to stop it. Faking return addresses is trivial and currently unstoppable. Sorry. Welcome to the modern world. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  7. I've been sworn to secrecy, but since it's just you skydivers, I will give you the Movement's secret URL for the agenda. Don't tell ANYONE. Shhhh http://www.markfiore.com/animation/agenda.html First Class Citizen Twice Over
  8. Tempura? Have you ever tried to make that? It's HARD! But I didn't mention the salmon side dish. Quick description then I've got to go finish up: Toro (raw fatty tuna underbelly meat) chopped fine, then mixed with tuffle oil, tangy ponzu, and three colors of fish roe. Served molded on individual small plates with a drizzle of creme fraische and a sprinkling of juicy salmon roe. If I had fresh truffle, I'd shave a few bits on top. A mound of shredded daikon radish alongside for contrast. Mmm. (I think the problem with gay marriage is we eat so much better than the rest of you and you're JEALOUS! BWAHAhahahaha!) 9. My HOMO-SEKS-YOU-WALL lover and I will be sharing homemade donburi-style sushi tonight with a base jumper of dubious persuasion. Sushi rice in a wide bowl covered with an artful assortment of decorations. I haven't shopped yet, but I'm looking forward to at least broiled eel, ahi tuna, flying fish eggs, a lovely shredded, dried egg garnish I'm learning, crispy fried tofu, and black sesame seeds. We'll also have a miso soup with noodles and scallions. Simple. Crisp. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  10. I think you're saying that gay people fighting for marriage rights is putting the importance back in the institution. If someone wants it that badly, it must be worthwhile. Am I right? First Class Citizen Twice Over
  11. You didn't answer the questions. That weakens your position. Try harder next time. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  12. That's reasonable. I don't agree but you can make a good case, I suppose. I happen to like my long relationship and don't see any reason to shift to another. I've got a lot invested and it's paying off nicely! Personally, I'm against a governmental role in marriages (or anything, for that matter), so I'm not likely to get involved. But a whole lot of gay people want the government to register their relationships in some ledger of relationships. Good for them! First Class Citizen Twice Over
  13. So I just want anti-marriage crusaders to answer one question. Should I be allowed to commit to my lover of 5 years or not? [YES] or [NO] Ok, I suppose I have a second question. If not, how come? First Class Citizen Twice Over

  15. See, I didn't have any idea how to SPELL that! I even tried a google search figuring someone would have an authoritative Cartoon Quotes site, but no luck. So I settled for the plain version. Nice that someone picked up on it anyway though! :) First Class Citizen Twice Over
  16. Seriously, you misunderstand. I don't hate any monolithic culture here because there IS NO monolithic culture here. I quite like a lot of what happens here. It's fun and sometimes it's educational and valuable. Some really decent people, too. However, I do not mistake the errors of the leadership with the value of the culture. It's so much more fun and complex than that. Sangiro's written rules? Perfectly reasonable. The people who follow them are great. However, Sangiro also enjoys picking fights with unsuspecting victims then turning you wolves loose to dismember them. The one thing Mr. Sangiro apparently can't abide is thought. The one thing his wolves can't abide is resistance to their aggression. You can identify his wolves by that characteristic :) Perhaps your image of sheep is better than mine of wolves, but mixed metaphors get you docked points, so I figured I have to pick one and stick with it. Don't let me inhibit your metaphor though! You might be on to something with those sheep of yours. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  17. I still get a fair amount of requests for those in email and private messages through this site. I could compile some recent ones for you if you like. :) The best part of my trip to Malaysia was getting so many inspirations for cooking. Oh! And also getting to taunt Tom Aiello about inflexibility and control fetishes. That seems to have made Sangiro and some other people I've never heard of self conscious and over sensitive as well. Mostly I loved the food, however. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  18. Danger! Danger, Mayhem! Don't question. Don't think. Your official duty is to join in the feeding frenzy. Hmm. Haven't been banned yet. How entertaining! Honestly, this is about the most fun dropzone's been in ages. I wonder what silliness happens next? First Class Citizen Twice Over
  19. I'm sorry, did you have trouble reading my original post? I can use smaller words if you like. I'm only here to help. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  20. Wow. End of the day and I still have a "REPLY" button. How 'bout that. I really only have one disappointment: I wish I could have C-R-A-Z-Y T-H-O-M-A-S defending me like Sangiro has. Then I'd FOR SURE know I was on the righteous side. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  21. This isn't your typical insecure, "Boo hoo I'm going to leave dropzone.com forever" posting. No, Sangiro has finally had enough of my participation and he's going to push the dreaded "Banned" button. I won't explain why here, since my words will be rewritten and/or deleted at will anyway, but you can certainly wonder if you like. I think that's allowed. You can also take later self-serving, one-sided explanations with a grain of salt. Many of you have enjoyed my company here (and thanked me privately for saying openly what many think). Others of you haven't enjoyed it of course, notably Sangiro and yes, yes, he owns everything, he's in charge, blahdeblahblahblah. Of course he has the right to be a although I have a right to laugh and think he's . I just don't have a right to laugh here and that's fair. Just remember, our emails aren't intercepted -- PROBABLY. At least not the ones that go through dropzone.com! Hahahahahaha! (This post was edited by Sangiro on Feb 15, 2004, 7:45 AM) First Class Citizen Twice Over
  22. As of this morning, Raist has more base jumps than skydives. Maybe in the midst of everyone bickering over nailing someone's competency by counting this number of skydives or that number of base jumps, we can just smile and realize: Base jumping is about personal, emotional rewards and numbers don't measure those. But sometimes the numbers are fun to play with and smile about, like a 50th birthday or watching the car's odometer roll past 100,000 miles. Congrats to Raist for a meaningless but entertaining milestone! You've worked hard to get here and I've loved watching and helping (and sometimes joining in) along the way. What next? 23. Gary, Very dangerous ground here... Bush most certainly is a better strategist than you think. Expect an October surprise. Sudden appearance of nukes and biobombs with the "Made in America" label scratched off? Perhaps a convenient 'terrorist' attack perfectly timed to give Bush a kneejerk boost? I'd predict a really MAJOR attack, like a nuke on an American city, but I think Bush is more inclined to save that one for 2008 right before he cancels the election and declares himself Emperor -- you know, just because of the emergency. Liberal Arts

I have a bachelor's degree in philosophy from what might be the most abstract liberal arts college in the west half of the US. I own a successful, growing small business with 4 employees. I do fairly well. My company does extremely technical work, but must do it with a human approach. Common sense cannot be taught, but system administration and software engineering can be. I completely agree with Andyman in his assessments of people with technical degrees. I'd be much more inclined to hire a history or philosophy or psychology or marketing student than an academically trained programming geek. First Class Citizen Twice Over
