  1. Due to dislocated shoulder a few weeks ago I got busy. Tell me what you think. This one I made for the tandem instructor, all jumps from 1 day last year. http://www.skystudio.nl/video/VTS_01_1a.wmv And this one is just some bits and pieces glued together from the first 3 weeks of the season (some with colour malfunction in my old videocamera) http://www.skystudio.nl/video/VTS_01_1.wmv What think you all? 2. Took me about 10 jumps to control, and about 3-400 to get the feeling of "hanging" in my wings underneath a tandem. Wouldn't recommend going with a tandem / team or even cam-helmet the first time you wear wings... at first it will be a very ackward feeling, but as mentionned before you get used to it very quickly. Have fully charged batteries in your camera (s). I find it really stressfull when in doubt if my batteries will last the jump. Those are pretty much the only jumps I don't enjoy. Place a battery on your recorder, believe it or not, one of my colleagues was sitting next to me in the plane when noticing this "technical malfunction". I nearly wet my pants! So did he... 3. If you want to do tandemvideo on the belly I would recommend booties, since you'll be hanging in your wings, and flying on your knees and lower legs (or bootiez...) Furthermore I'd agree with anyone that says you'll have to find out which suit-setup you like most yourself. All the rest of us can only blah away at you "Don't make me come down there" - God. 6. I usually jump with a little ring on my goggles, forgot it one weekend and had to go up quickly so I couldn't prepare new goggles, worked fine. At a certain moment you just know what the frame is, even without ringsights or other aids. Wouldn't recommend it to start out with though. 7. The stall/surge propably doesn't have much less auch-potential as a hook-approach on a tandem. Both will result in pain when executed too low, but the extra speed generated by both when executed properly overall results in a more comfortable landing. (All of the above based on what I've been watching for the past 3 years while doing tandemvideo's) "Don't make me come down there" - God. 8. I love these posts, but really, if you are getting coached by your instructors, enjoy! Go for safe straight-ins at first. You might want to make your first few jumps with at least moderate winds. Doing hop and pops to have the sky only for yourself might be an idea. Build up the fun-level gradually, even up high, you can induce a twist when initiating a very agressive turn. Keep on flying the canopy during landing. I assume you already did this on your 150, if not you will propably taste sand a couple of times with the Stiletto. Just take it easy in the beginning, Stiletto's react to little movements... Nobody here has seen you fly a canopy, so no-one can judge if you're ready. If your Instructors tell you to go ahead they do this because they've seen you in action and think you're ready. If you are unsure yourself, stay with the 150... Be good! "Don't make me come down there" - God. My site:http://www.skystudio.nl/video.html Some of my vids: http://www.youtube.com/user/TomSkyStudio

  15. If you're gonna do tandemvideo, you're gonna want to do stills as well. Figure out a good combination. I have a .5 and a .45 (Hama) on my sony PC-7 (can't figure out why it doesn't die on me, but I'm not fixing untill something is broken) The .45 works best for me, and I use it in combination with a .22 lens on a Canon rebel (analogue, we are still handing the rollsto the passengers...) The choice of the .45 has one main reason for me: little distortion, bu to get a screen filler, I need to be quite close, and I find it a lot easier to react to movements of the tandem pair when flying close to them. It also makes it (in comparison to the .5) easier for me to get the drogue in the shot, if you'll be sit- or backflying that shouldn't be a problem, but since I fly tandemvideos with a belly-down videosuit with wings I like the extra range. I have 2 main reasons why I don't go smaller (to something like the .3) 1) distortion 2) even if I get blown away a bit on exit, or if the drogue doesn't come out as fast as you would expect, the tandempair isn't a tiny dot on the screen. The smaller the number on your lens, the smaller things will appear on the screen when you're a bit further than where youu want to be. Two shots below are with the .22 lens, nearly no distortion. 16. Just give yourself the time to learn how to fly the wings. I did about 200 tandemvideos on a freefly suit before going to the suit with wings. Made a couple of solo's first to get the feel, made a couple of video's of solo jumps and training jumps for guys that wanted to become AFF jump masters, and did about 10 tandemvideo's at about 10 ft away from the tandem. After that I felt confident with the suit and got back to my normal distance quite fast. It did take me about 200 jumps before I could get the drogue in the shot. Just do your own little thing, and take a little time to get used to those wings, they can give you much pleasure. Here in Holland there is no age limit for tandem passengers (as long as the parents sign the waiver), and even though I'm not a lightweight I can keep up with tandems with 7-year olds on a new drogue. 18. JVC has a lot of condense-issues, the Canon-ones seem to be doing well. As for me, I just stick to SONY, never change a winning team... "Don't make me come down there" - God. My site:http://www.skystudio.nl/video.html Some of my vids: http://www.youtube.com/user/TomSkyStudio
  19. Can't post it due to Powerbook not in yet, but I had the schweetest tandem-exit shot ever this weekend! We jump out of a 206, so my right foot is in the corner of the door. The TM was sitting on top of my foot so I couldn't lead, nor make a normal exit (which does happen once or twice a year, and which is better than the TM kicking that right foot out when climbing out, had that last year...) When this happens I just let myself fall backwards and get my wings out on the back to get some spacing. This time I did the same, but got myself into a little ball-like position, and spun around twice before going back to belly and the normall stuff. The TM did a 360 before going to the drogue, but in the opposite direction as my turns. Man it all looked great with the plane turning and the tandem pair turning even harder in an even, clear and rather dark blue sky... Just had to share, gotta do this more often. Does anyone do a similar thing? "Don't make me come down there" - God. My site:http://www.skystudio.nl/video.html Some of my vids: http://www.youtube.com/user/TomSkyStudio
  20. I had the same on a demo Pilot 140, somewhat unpredictable and quite rapid openings. Once you get the packing right a Stiletto can open sweet consistently, it comes down to putting the slider in front of all the other rags. I have a borrowed Safire II 149 in my back to back rig right now, and that one opens sweet even with the worst packjob, can't say that about the Stiletto. "Don't make me come down there" - God. 21. I'm learning on a Stiletto 150 and 135 right now, and 100 jumps ago I was the king of the corner, or the king of the fly-by, due to the short recovery arc. I now find it better and easier to start higher than before and control the dive with both risers. If you want to give your Stiletto only binary controls (pull front riser down *on* / pull front riser down *off*) it propably isnt any good for learning to swoop without getting hurt or looking like an idiot. (Luckily I only experienced option nr 2) The way I'm progressing now on both canopies makes me feel like the Stiletto is an excellent canopy to learn the basics. On this learning curve I'll propably be ready for crossbraced @ 2000 jumps or so. (Maybe going to Katana in 500 - 600 jumps) "Don't make me come down there" - God.
