  2. To make sure ya get the window in the front there champ! n00bs.... How many 'night' jumps did you have before you read the manual? 5. Modern canopies are not designed to fly backwards in 0 winds.. I am quite sure that you were landing into wind greater than 0. ETA: While they are a necessary tool, PLF's are over-rated.
  6. Since my and airtwardo's pie discussion got deleted somehow. What kinda pie do you like? Im sort of undecided, but I like the sound of the chocolate creme pie. 7. Once again Kallend, you are wrong. We do read the instructions. We just choose to ignore them. Step 1: Put helmet on your head Step 2: Attach any chin clips, tighten any draw strings. Step 3: Skydive. To remove helmet, work backwards from step 2 to step 1. Why do you need a freakin manual for that? Thats what YOU think... tell that to the dozen or so guys in my airborne class that broke ankles, legs or whatever else they broke cause they didnt do them "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
  12. I've been there, landed backwards a couple times under a 240, off the dz by a mile, and backing up further... Now that I got a smaller canopy, no more issues with that one... and a smaller one in the works "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message

  15. LMAO.. thank you, oh sage master, for the eternal words of wisdom. And yes for what it is worth I feel pretty f'ing stupid in retrospect. But I figured the whole relative wind thing.. and just did what I always did before (minus the whole 2 jumpmasters expertly hurtling me -away- from the dreaded cessna step- personal responsibility in full force!).. bah. LOL. But yes, lesson being that the goal is to AVOID eating metal. And I imagine that goal takes precedence over the goal of avoiding leg kicks in the first few seconds after exit! My AFFI just looked at me like i was a dumbass for trying to analyze the mechanics of that whole situation and said, it's not that hard, you just go AWAY from the PLANE and aim for the OPEN space. Lol, fair enough-- I think that does about sum it up.. the whole point of skydiving is indeed to get away from and fully detached from the plane, eh? But-- now watch me KICK the step of the cessna while exiting next time.. jk... I remember my first cessna jump, let go of the strut, look at the step thats now a couple inches from my face and thought... hmm, guess this plane has a slower speed than that king air... better be careful. Luckily, dont worry about jumping them too much, only have mabye half a dozen cessna jumps. 17. I'm reminded of a saying But, I dont think its quite the same for skydiving At MY dz, Ill leave my gear in the normal area the staff and the regulars keep their stuff, nobody messes with it (other than the occasional 'log book entry' ) most students dont go to that part of the building, so its pretty well safe. While I'm at Spaceland, I only really bring in what I'm going to use that day in an aviators kit bag, leave the rest in the truck, once geared up, I put the rest of my stuff away in the bag and zip it up. I think most the things that get 'got' are a target of opportunity, someone sees it, sees its not being watched, and grabs it as quick as they can. 'Outta site, outta mind' works well! 18. Quick thought, really for the benefit of anyone reading this thread who is counting their homeowner's or renter's insurance to cover a stolen or damaged rig: Many such policies require you to "schedule" - i.e., specifically list with the insurance company - certain items of particular value (for example, jewelry). (Note: this is over and above the good prudence to save all your receipts, etc. as proof of purchase and value.) People should check with their insurance agent about whether their policy requires them to "schedule" their rig(s) with their insurance carrier. If there's any doubt or ambiguity, do it. Very good point. I asked specifically about that and my current insurance policy doesn't require it. But since I just became eligible for USAA (thanks, Dad, for joining and bringing me along with you

  20. Yeah, we've jumped together... freaking floaty girl she is, I kept sinking out. Yes, I know what you're going to say about that... Im less floaty now! Retaining some water eh? 22. I have a Nikon Coolpix P4 thats been pretty good to me. I've dropped it a few times, and its been subjected to being in everything from snow and sub-freezing temps, to 120+ in the middle east. Bought it about the end of 2006 IIRC, and havn't had any real issues with it. 23. Dont worry about the latency for the DNS servers, remember 10ms = 1/10th of a second, so its not too slow Just have them check to verify that its not set to 'Dial on demand', it should be set to something like 'Stay connected' If it is already, you might have a problem with the ISP, if they have a modem you can rent (usually 2-5 bucks a month) you could try that to see if it helps any, but I doubt that its the problem. If it does, you can upgrade the firmware on yours, or replace it. 24. Packing gets tiring after a while, but you can make a small fortune doing it. I know that several DZ's will let you pack your way thru AFF. Plus, you learn alot about the gear and different ways that people like their stuff packed so you can decide how you want to pack your gear when the time comes.
