Everyone has pointed out the canopy side issues with doing this, but you also have to think about how you'd attach the canopy to the airframe. Trying to haul a Leer under a few canopies is surely going to put some stresses on the airframe that it wasn't designed for. Believe it or not, airplanes glide even with all the fans shut off. In almost every engine out scenario I have come up with, I'd rather glide than fall at the mercy of a BRS. The ones that I'd rather the BRS are over open water with no land within glide and over dense forest. I also see absolutely no advantage to a ram air canopy in this situation. Rounds get you to the ground, are very reliable (when equipped with anti-inversion netting) and they won't have too much of an issue being connected via single point. That'll give you the ability to counteract any twisting on the airplane from spinning up and choking off the canopy. I've talked to an AF pilot and he said due to incidents involving the wrong airport, they're now required to fly calculated approaches backed up by NavAids on a stabilized approach. If the airport for some reason doesn't have an ILS, they have to calculate the decent angle to give them a stable approach, including RNAV (no more dive and drives). While that's somewhat sloppy rigging, it shouldn't be much of an issue. Since these aren't to be used for jumping, what are they going to get used for? That's not a horrible idea. It depends on the person. I know some people who will do it with the lines hot, but many opt to kill the breaker first. Of course, there are people out there working on computers and using the ESD straps... I'd put it on the front. I don't think I've ever seen a slider with a pocket anywhere other than the front. Letting the canopy get even an inch chord and/or span would be enough to impact the openings. Sometimes it's softer, sometimes it's not. I have a Safire2 169 that I'm on my 3rd slider to get the openings I want. Works great and no need for a pocket. If you're just messing around, put a pocket on the front and start large (open high) and work your way down to make it open the way you want by sewing the pocket smaller and smaller. It's easier to go smaller than to add fabric after the initial pocket is installed. Good luck! That looks pretty good for an inexperienced riglet! Some things that I'd probably do just a hair differently but I don't see any glaring issues with how you did it. Does this slider line up grommet to grommet with the old slider (with tension applied)? Normally putting a pocket on it is a 'when all else fails' action. It's not terribly difficult to do, and I think if you managed to build that, it would be a fairly simple task to sew one on... the hard part is figuring out what size to make it! I've never seen or heard of anyone putting a pocket on a removable slider, but the process should be similar. What exactly are you getting hung up on?
