  2. That is exactly how I feel when I do Strong 304s for a few customers of mine ~ the first few line stows play tricks with my mind. No shit!! 3. Are you sure that it's the seal thread and not the hesitation (staging) loop? "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
  4. The seal thread is required as per the packing instructions. Riggers that don't pack it with the thread installed are violating the law by not packing in accordance with the mfgr's instructions. 5. I'd like to know who everyone who is anyone is, and how you polled them and asked them if they would use it. Never rely on the RSL or AAD, they're backup devices! Also, don't change your decision altitude. It helps you open higher, or would you rather be low, under an unfamiliar canopy, off the dz, at dusk? That little bit of extra altitude could give you time to atleast see how the canopy flies before you try to land it. It also negates any reserve pilot chute hesitation You can disconnect it any time you want, its as easy as disconnecting the RSL shackle. SO, now you're changing your mind from you don't like it, to you just don't understand it? http://www.unitedparachutetechnologies.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=85&Itemid=70 Read that, watch the video. Being skeptical is fine, but how long do you want a new product to be out before you will accept it? You mentioned you hoped it had magnetic riser covers, IIRC the skyhook has been out longer than the mag riser covers. 6. Manual? I don't need no fuckin manual!! Jk! I wish I could find one online! So far there was only one that was backwards threaded, but I caught it. The one on the shaft that held the wheel on was right-tighten. 7. That slot will rotate the entire shaft if I turn it. It is possible that the screw is just that tight... Guess some more oil is in the future. Ok, so I put one of the set screws back on to lock the shaft to the handwheel, and used a gerber screwdriver sideways to get it to turn. It bent my screwdriver tip, but this seems to have worked fine, got the hand wheel off! 9. No, it probably doesn't have the magnetic riser covers. I don't believe UPT was selling them till 2009(ish) The retrofitted skyhook works just the same as the rest of the skyhook rigs. If you don't want it, you can disconnect the RSL shackle and POSSIBLY (not sure on the rules with UPT in this matter) remove the RSL lanyard. Unless you're jumping some video gear or something with a lot of snag hazards, why would you not want it? 11. ... except in heat above 85ish degrees at which point, the lenses will no longer transition to a tint, or when its below 40 when the lenses will get so dark that you cannot see out of them. 12. Memory came back ( I think ); there should be a screw down in the middle of the hand-wheel holding it onto the shaft, I 'think.' If this is it, let us know; I haven't owned a 31-15 in a number of years. JerryBaumchen Jerry, I only see these two set screws, which I have fully removed. Now I can put a screwdriver in the slot on the shaft, and rotate the handwheel a full 360, but I can't seem to pull the wheel out. 13. SO, me being the tinkerer and OCD guy that I am... I decided to clean and repaint the machine... Bad idea? Probably... good learning experience? Most likely! So, it looks like the previous owner spray painted (pretty badly none the less) My green scuff pads don't seem to be strong enough to break thru it without a LOT of elbow grease... Why would anyone paint this thing so badly?? Also, how do you get the handwheel off? I removed the two set screws on the wheel, oiled and rotated it, it now turns on the crank, but I can't get it to come off! Yes, they painted over all the chrome (brushed steel) even the thread tensioner and eyes. 15. I've jumped with my polarized liquids with my non ruggidized N2 and while it wasn't very clear, I could generally make out the numbers on the screen. It did take a few extra seconds than normal to see what it was though, and for that, I don't want to jump the combination without trying to minimize the effect. 16. Also, if someone in the Tampa area is looking for a 31-15, I just found this one on craigslist for $25 bucks. Anyone at z-hills wants it, I can bring it up for a little gas money. http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/atq/2231334206.html "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
  17. It runs fine with or without the bobbin winder engaged. Like I said before, it looks like an automotive v-belt, not a round one that I was expecting. SN AD303998 puts it circa 1930 Would it work for me to just cut a piece of 550 cord (I have a whole roll of it here) once I get the new motor and pulley on it, then just make the 550 cord 'belt' to measure it? 18. Alright, they're ordered! Thanks for the info guys. Guess I'll look at cleaning this thing up while I wait for the parts to come in. Why did they have to spray paint the damn thing? 19. So then THIS is what I'm looking for, with one of THESE on it? I appreciate all the help guys! "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
  20. Ok, that makes sense. Now, whats the point of the servo? "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
  21. I take it that it changed the speed? Wouldn't I be able to do that with the servo? I'm kind of new to this whole sewing machine technical info thing, and I don't see anything in PPM about servos and pulleys. 22. If you order a new motor, go with the Consew 550 servo motor and specify a #614 pulley. Thanks! The guy I talked to when I called Henderson earlier said the part was THIS one. I'm assuming the Consew one is probably better than the (generic) one he told me. What's the point of the servo? In the little research I've done so far, it makes it so I can adjust the speed. Does that still work the same way (more pedal pressure, faster) or is it more of an on/off? Seems I can pick one of the Consew's off of ebay for about $100, however, they don't specify the pulley size. 23. Thanks! Glad there's more than a couple places to get webbing and whatnot. I'm doing this the lazy way now... Im ordering the weights from paragear, and will modify them to fit my needs. It seems less of a pain in the ass to do it this way than try to source lead shot (which seems to be fairly pricey and hard to find) I think I'll order the new machine motor and belt tomorrow just have to measure the current one and figure out if its the 40" or the 44". I think in the mean time, I'll clean up the machine... any tips on getting all this caked on paint off? Sandpaper? 24. Its going to cost me about 150 for a new motor/clutch assembly. That's not too bad, so in the near future I'll be doing that. I can still hand start it till I get the motor ordered. Ordering some thread tonight, trying to decide what webbing/material I'm going to make my packing weights out of... suggestions? Only downside, I can't find anyone nearby that sells lead shot?
