I finally got to fly again, been weathered out since last Monday. Hope the rest of the week goes smoothly! "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message

Pictures? I'm curious about the fit after the modification... you don't even have to put your jumpsuit on, just a tank top or bikinni. Thanks! You don't need to buy everything new... and I would suggest against it... as you're probably going to want to downsize in a couple hundred jumps, and that new smaller canopy may not fit properly into the container you have. My entire rig (minus AAD) is new, but it's also my second rig, and one that I plan on sticking with for a while, it cost a pretty penny, but by the time I bought it, I knew what I wanted. The malfunctions caused by bad maintenance is pretty avoidable, have your rigger give it a good looking at, identify what the high wear points will potentially be, and keep an eye on it. It's very rare that a rig gets to the point of being dangerous if you keep an eye on it, and have a rigger worth something. I've got a 1981 Wonderhog sitting in my rigging room, it has a 24' round reserve in it... I wouldn't have a doubt about jumping it, as it's in good condition (probably will end up jumping it just for shits and giggles). It's all about how it was taken care of. Back brace for hard openings? Need advice
theonlyski replied to keith82687's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have had a jacked up back for the past ~5 years. The army gave me lots of motrin, since I've gotten out and started going to the chiro on my own dime, I've seen a MAJOR improvement in my back (no/way less pain, more flexibility= better mobility, easier flying too). If it hurts, don't rush it. I personally wouldn't jump a Sabre1 just because I don't want to risk it, but I also have a good amount of weight on my helmet that I don't need torquing my neck. Just starting off with those back problems MAY make it harder to get past the muscle memory though, something to think about. It's far easier to learn it the right way, than to learn it the way that it doesn't hurt NOW, then re-learn it later, the right way. I've heard that because ZP is more slippery it comes out of the BOC with less pull force than F-111, and therefore is more susceptible to premature deployment. I'm not sure if anyone has experience with this, but it makes sense to me so I went with F-111 for my rig. It's also said to reduce the snatch force because it can breathe a little and doesn't immediately 'stop'. 1. I am looking to get a Sabre2 190 and a comparable Reserve? Not sure what size reserve I should order, the same? I have about 50 jumps and have previously been flying a 190 Sabre2. My landings have been great with no issues. I weigh 185, is that a Good wing load? You're probably going to want to get a reserve that's the same size, or a bit bigger than your main. PD-R193 would be MY recommendation 2. Are padded stabilizers good? I have never jumped with them. I have them, don't really notice a difference, probably won't till you get a smaller rig that is narrower than your back 3. Freefly mod? What is this? Should I get it for later? IIRC, it's the tabs sewn to the leg pads so you can tie them together with the bungee cord, to keep the leg pads from sliding down to your knees in a sit 4. Trim Tape , not sure what this is? Its the binding tape (around the edges of the flaps and whatnot) 5. Pilot Chute, been jumping a collapsible, Should I go with Centerline F111 or ZP? There's some discussion about this. ZP will last longer, but some people say F111 will help provide softer openings 6. Riser Length? 19", 21", or 23" ? What is a good one? Large(Type 8) or Mini Ring(Type 17) How long are yer arms? Probably fine with 19 or 21's 7. One piece or two piece leg pad? I take it you're getting the fully articulated harness? The 2 piece leg pad doesn't have as much padding between you and the harness (in some places). Either way, you'll probably be just as happy. I have the single piece and have no issues with it. I had the same trouble, I always check with the sta and talk to the instructors see what the student needs to work on. Asking the -I's are always going to be your best COA. If I have no direct answer from them, I will generally have them do a solo exit (unlinked two way) so I can observe their body position. Have them do a practice pull, then a couple of turns with alti checks inbetween. I'll move to forward movement, and if they're rocking it out, I'll throw in some vertical movement (not much distance!!)... If they're recently cleared for solo, I will have them pull in place for a jump or two, I've seen students do a full 360 (and keep going) from reach to throw and didn't know why they got the line twists. You can look up the CAT G & H in the SIM (ya know, the book that said you can jump with students cleared for solo as a D- holder and in ratios of no more than 1:1 up to a 4 way). Who ever said they couldn't find in the SIM that they were allowed to jump with students as D- holders really should look again. As Andy pointed out, it's black and white, clear as day. Doesn't the iPhone (among most other phones) use aGPS that relies heavily on the cell tower reception to give it a better fix as to where it is? Without the assist, it is possible that your results are way off, so sure, it might be a novelty to see you roughly flew this far, this fast... it's not that accurate. Alternative bridle routing/closing method
theonlyski replied to Southern_Man's topic in Gear and Rigging
Nope, the side flap grommets shouldn't overlap. Believe it or not, if they do, the main pin flap wont fully close and will stick up. Thats why I prefered to shower in the early morning (before or just at sunrise), the water in the tanks has usually cooled off a little.
