  2. If you're bending your legs in (feet moving towards your ass more) and you're going forward, you're doing something else. Bending your knees (bringing feet to ass) will put less resistance on your bottom half and you backslide, not forward. BTW, easiest way to arch, RELAX, deep breath and let your hips sink. I see too many people flying like 2x4's with serious looks on their face. I was there once, so I know what it feels like to concentrate so hard and get stressed out. RELAX and it'll be easier!   4. I have a 750GB drive in my editing computer, all of the raw footage, vegas template and pictures are put (via a program I wrote to do so) into a folder on that drive. End of the weekend, I copy all of the media from the weekend to an external drive and copy them to my 2TB NAS at home. Been thinking about upping that 750GB to a 2TB, but it's not close enough to full enough to warrant it yet. The program is pretty handy and it keeps the hierarchy of the folders consistent, which makes it easier to find things I'm looking for as well as keeping it tidy. I put both cards in the computer (SD and Pro Duo) Hit Alt+Home (keys I randomly came up with), it asks for the students name... Then creates folders (MM-DD-YYYY\Studentname\ (pictures) or (video)) the program looks for the drives (as the letters may change), moves all the footage and pictures from the cards to the 750, copies my vegas template to the folder (and renames it to studentname.veg), opens the pictures and video folders, (so it's a quick check on pics, then drag and drop to burn) and also automatically opens the vegas template for that student, so I can start cranking on the video. It saves a bunch of time making folders and whatnot. Another video guy at the DZ is using it (after some modifications to make it work right with his old ass XT) We both see a great improvement in the speed of it. Also don't have to format the memory cards after each jump, it moves the files, so I can pop the card out afterwords and it's ready for the next jump. ETA: I also have the option of copying the media to my NAS with MS Synctoy via my VPN, but the DZ uses DSL which is SLOW trying to copy HD footage. I seem to recall hearing about a dz that was going to get all their packers to slam 20 chest packs (no spring loaded p/c's and small canopies) and get them a chest type ticket, because that would conform to the regs. Can't remember what dz it was, or how it was coming along.   7. Congrats! Shirtail cut or do they still even do that? The Wright brothers signed off my solo. And the FAA, are the slowest f's as far as pushing some paperwork through. My CFI didn't see a reason to destroy a shirt (even if it was a skydiving shirt) Dude thinks I'm crazy. During my last touch-n-go with him in the plane, he asked if I was nervous to solo (which, I was) he said "You jump out of fucking airplanes, why are you nervous about landing one by yourself?" My canopy doesn't have a big metal spinny thing to keep off the ground. Oddly, I wasn't as nervous actually doing it as I thought I was going to be. Guess ya fly a pattern 50 times, you kinda get used to it, and it gets easier to do instead of having to think about carb heat, RPM's, flaps, speed, altitudes, radio calls and so on... they just kinda start flowing. Fucker did somehow turn off the VASI on me. Guess I had to learn to land without it eventually.   12. Talking to the sales guy at my FBO (who really only sells Cirus aircraft) he's given me some pointers, one being not all pre-buy inspections are the same, as there is no standard for them. I know here in FL corrosion is a big deal, but there are other things: How much TTAF is too much? I'm looking at 30+ year old planes, so I expect they have been in the air for a while, but where do you draw the line? I know there are a bunch of problems with the engines in mid 70's Cessnas, and there were 3 major AD's that came out of it, if an engine has been complied with these, is it good now, or is it still something to watch out for?   14. I couldn't afford one of those, so why learn in one? They are kinda purty and shiney, but I like the ol' 172, makes me think it has to be flown more. Though, there was a guy my CFI was working on his instrument rating, put the SR-20 on auto pilot thru a cloud, apparently the auto pilot couldn't really compensate for the altitude changes they were getting, so it was climbing, then diving, then climbing, then diving to try to get back on altitude.   20. At airports? I looked outside and didn't see any on my street or in my neighborhood, so I'm going to stick with airports. Also at airports are FBOs. In those FBOs are copies of Trade-a-plane...   21. for sale? Thinking about picking up a late 70's-ish 172, where would one go to find decent deals? Been looking around controller, trade a plane, aso. What do you look for when you pick up a personal plane? Trying to find something that's hopefully IFR (future expansion on my flying abilities), mid-timed, and possibly a 430w or something like that.   23. I really think that it should be required to demonstrate packing a round AND a square during our O/P's. With my back/seat ratings, I can pack squares and rounds in two types of containers (not that I've ever seen a seat rig with a square). Sure, packing a round is easy, but if someone isn't trained on it, and does it anyway, they might not know what the hell to do with it. I packed one of each (square back and round seat) during my practical, it was only a little longer (I think my patch took the longest, ) but it should be something that you should demonstrate for the rating, and it wouldn't take much to change the wording to require it.
