... and 'purees' and 'cats eyes'? Earning .50 cents an hour working at the grocery store? Chuck

Do you know why, there was a 16 RPM setting on record players? Chuck

When a gallon of gas was .26 cents... When a Coke cost a nickel (and was drink)... When a hamburger cost .25 cents... ...and PF Flyers! Chuck

I'm not saying this story is BS, but Starbucks absolutely will sell you a black brewed coffee. Any store, any time. They might not be brewing Columbian, but they're absolutely brewing plain old black coffee. The cashiers have no vested interest in up selling either. I know for a fact I can go into any Starbucks, order a short black, use their facility and get refills all day long if needed. $1.50 per day for office rent isn't a bad deal, although I'll admit to indulging in higher priced fare frequently. As I mentioned, he said he would have to make it and he didn't seem too thrilled with the idea. That was a long time ago. Chuck

I've never been inside one. Don't care. Overpriced bullshit. I've been one Starbucks and that was only because my wife had a $!0.00 coupon. I just wanted a cup of Columbian coffee... black and it was like I was comitting a crime. The guy kept trying to sell me some latte shit or something. Finally, the idiot behind the counter who was obviously not aware of black coffee, told me they'd have to make it. I asked for and got, a glass (paper cup) of water. My wife got what she ordered. When we were finished, we vowed to NEVER go to another Starbucks! Over-rated crap and outrageous prices. Chuck

I don't think I'm going to need to slow it down any, I was just curious about the belt, as I was pretty sure the one I used before was more round than v-shaped. I'll probably bug MEL for some parts. Any ideas as to the motor issue? I wouldn't be surprised at all if its just the brushes needing to be replaced. I've always used leather belts on my 31-15. They work much better than V-belts. Rounded leather belts are available through Singer. The pullys weren't made for V-belts. Chuck FWIW, both the 31-15 and the 143w2 are using V-belts and with no apparent loss of performance or power. All of the pullies are V shaped so I could see using a round or V belt in them. The round would probably sit deeper into the valley, but like I said, I don't see a reason for them. I've kept my 31-15 'original' and really have not, till now been aware that that machine was set-up for V-belts. The old adage is true... you learn something new, every day. edit to add: I need to get-out more! Chuck

Thanking me is not necessary; it is all about the sharing of information. JerryBaumchen There ya' go! Chuck

Boogie? I thought it was THIS. I can't believe a nationwide news story about a porn star hasn't shown up here yet. (link is a news article and is SFW) Stacie Halas aka Tiffany Six She's probably subsidizing her pay! The school, telling kids to not search porn sites is like telling a kid to stay away from gasoline with matches. Chuck

Yessir! Thank you for the help. On my 31-15, the pully on the machine head and on the motor are for leather belts. The guy I bought it from had a V-belt on it and it slipped, a lot. I replaced it with a leather belt, after talking with a Singer repairman and it works great. I must have a really old one! Like you said, I've noticed the 'newer' machines are set-up for V-belts. Thanks again, for your in-put. Chuck

A woman from New York City was visiting Scotland. At one of the castles she visited was a a guard outside. the woman approached the guard and whispered to him; "What do you wear under your kilt?" The guard, who was at attention replied; "If, ya' r-reach up under there, you'll know!" The woman looked around and reached under the guard's kilt. "Oh, that's gruesome!" The guard replied; "Aye and if ya' r-reach up under there again, it'll gr-rew some more!" Chuck

You got that right! the Wings really pulled one out, there! That 3rd. period was a nail biter. I think, the kids from Grand Rapids are starting to mesh and make a presence. you bet! We need Pavel back, something serious. He and Bert. Those two seem to work good together. Seems like, this happens to the Wings every season. They get close to the play-offs and the injuries take over. They always manage to hang in there. Chuck

According to the rule he deserves a suspension. It is however a good example of what is wrong with the rule. Kronwell was making a hockey play. He was attacking the puck in open ice. He did not line the guy up, he did not target his head. The fact is once it became clear that Vorochek was not going to protect himself there was nothing Kronwell could do short of lying down on the ice and either taking a tripping penalty, or giving up a breakaway. Keep your head up kids. I read an interview with Vorochek where he said that he saw Kronwall and thought that he'd back-up. Vorochek said too that he had his head down and Kronwall held his ground. Vorochek said he thought it was a 'clean hit' and that that type hit should stay in the game. "Keep your head up kids" sounds like Don Cherry! Chuck

That's kinda' funny. Two former Atlanta teams meeting. Which team do the Atlanta fans cheer for? The Flames go way back to the WHL. If, I'm not mistaken. Good to see Winnipeg with an NHL team, again. What do you think of Kronwall's hit on Vorochek, Tuesday night? Chuck

Based purely on her interview (ambiguous) and the circumstances I would say that the publicity weighs towards her being charged w/ fraud but her cluelessness weighs against it (intent to defraud is an element you must prove). Isn't ignorance of the law, no excuse? Chuck

I just explained above that this woman would have been caught eventually. But just a for instance, if you wanted to change the reporting and verification cycle from yearly to monthly there would be no problem doing that. You would just have to hire 12 times as many eligibility workers. I guess I was typing my response while you were posting yours. What I was getting at was... aren't there people 'in place' who are supposed to keep an eye on things, already? Chuck

well, you have a choice to make here - is is so important to make sure lotto winners don't get welfare checks that you'll spend money to prevent it from happening? drug testing for welfare collectors is in a similar vein - it doesn't save the tax payers any money, it costs them money to administer the program. So if the goal is to save money, it's a bad idea. If it's to make sure the unemployed aren't having fun, then maybe it's a good idea. Why can't they just print more money? Seriously though... sounds like a bit of a catch 22. Aren't there people in place already to check-up on what's going on? What do 'supervisors' do all day besides twit and text? To me, someone isn't doing their job. Why should there be 'special investigators' to search-out trickery and tom-foolery? Chuck

I don't think there is an easy way for the 'system' to automatically know when someone encounters a windfall. There are painful methods, ones that would cost more than they save. So you commonly get into circumstances where you have to rely on people to report accurately, or behave appropriately. Potentially the state could cross reference tax returns with welfare recipients, but even then you don't automatically know the date of the windfall, so the person would have been honestly collecting prior to that date. Most reporting docs collate for the entire year. Oh, no. It would not be an easy chore and I wasn't saying it would be. There has to be some way of checks and balances in the system. Then too, this is the government we are talking about and if it's easy or simple, they don't understand it. Chuck

From what I've seen here locally as well as nationally, there are a lot of people concerned that Obama is going to get everyone's guns. Personally, I'm not concerned that my guns 'will' be taken. There are too many gun lobbyists and the 2nd. amendment. For some businesses and political groups, it sure doesn't hurt perpetuating certain beliefs about Obama. No one's ever gone broke over estimating the fear of the American public. Oh boy, how right you are! They say 'sex sells' but 'fear' is right up there. People don't stop and think and just show 'common sense'. I guess, to so many, they'd rather jump to cionclusions. Businesses sure do 'use' that to their benefit. Chuck

I KNOW! Remember the minute after he took office? He walked off the stage, got into a black helicopter and personally started busting doors down taking everybody's guns. God damn! All the NRA panic spewed by Wayne was 100% right on. Thank god Wayne is still there warning us about Obama is still on the loose trying to take our guns. I recall, not too long after Obama got elected, I was in my local hardware store. My sole purpose was to purchase a rifle. I noticed that behind and on the counter was all kinds of political crap about 'Obama is going to get our guns!' when I asked the clerk about the rifele I was looking for, he got on his damned soap-box. A middle-aged couple was there also and chimed-in with the clerk. I complained to the store manager about this. I was informed that political material such as that was not allowed in the store. The political material was removed and the clerk was reprimanded/quit! Just typical 'knee-jerk response' by people spreading shhit. Chuck

Before you get out the pitchforks do you have any actual experience in social services? Do you have any evidence that somebody was aiding this woman to cheat? Whoa there! I was not accusing or pointing fingers! I said "IF" government employees are in some way helping 'cheats', they need to be dealt with. I'm saying that a closer look should be taken at the 'system'. I'm not even thinking of 'getting-out the pitchforks'. How did you read that into what I wrote? To answer your question... No, I've never worked in social services or ever been near it. Good Lord!!! I believe, you nailed it! Government employees need to be accountable... big time. If, those government employees don't like their jobs, let 'em find something else. Someone needs to do a lot of 'in house' investigating and weed-out the one aiding cheats. Chuck
