  1. That is so very sad. You know how control freaks are... they are all over!! I don't do Facebook or any of the other 'social networks'. I agree with Betty White; "It's an incredible waste of time!" Chuck
  2. I thought I pushed that song out of my brain in the seventies, absolute worst song ever. I hated that song the first time I heard it! The 'Top 40' stations at the time, played it over and ove and over ad nauseum. Record companies swore, they were not paying stations to play certain songs incessantly... yeah, right! Chuck
  3. Freed gets the semi-official credit, but as you've rightly pointed out, since the term was used in the blues earlier, it's not exactly like he coined the phrase. He really just was the first white DJ to recognize and use it. Now look up Maurie Orodenker. I did! That's going waaay back. Thanks! Chuck
  4. No No NOOO!! You didn't tell them that!!!
  5. 'Battle of New Orleans' by Johnny Horton So, we grabbed an alligator and we powdered his behind and when we touched the powder-off, the gator lost his mind! Chuck
  6. Two of the dopiest songs ever. 4. Sometimes When we Touch--- Dan Hill AAAAAAaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrg! I hate that song. Some other annoying songs: Undercover Angel, The Night Chicago Died, MacArthur Park, Wildfire... Honey by Bobby Goldsboro is right up there! ....and what the heck is wrong with MacArthur Park!? Someone left the cake out in the rain!
  7. Double entendre? No, I think that's pretty much a single entendre. If anybody didn't know what he was talking about, uh . . . O.K. I've known a lot of folks who thought it was a 'dirty' song! Chuck Berry did many actual 'dirty' songs. He recorded a couple but they were never 'released'. Chuck
  8. As someone who was a teenager in the mid-50s', I agree. Maybe you can convince Paul Quade of that little factoid. JerryBaumchen I believe, Allen Freed (disc jockey inthe 50's) coined the term 'Rock and Roll'. Rock and Roll was a term used in some of the old Blues music. Chuck
  9. Double entendre? Chck Berry is probably the best known person to 'cold-cock' Keith Richards! Chuck
  10. Aw, Man! That was a good song! Mellenkamp put-out some great stuff. He 'expiramented' with different types of music and came-out a winner. His 'Paper and Fire' was probably, one of his best. Back when he was 'Johnny Cougar' well... not so good. Chuck
  11. 'Rocket Man' by William Shattner Anything by 'Lover Boy'. Richard Harris 'McArthur Park' is a much better actor. Chuck
  12. This is in stark contrast to his "Tutti Frutti" where I'm equally certain he and the people immediately around him thought he was doing a good cover. Little Richard was not too fond of it! Chuck
  13. Pat Boone does Ozzy...that HAS to be in the list of "worst ever." Pat Booneis the list of 'worst ever'! One thin about it, he mad those songs 'his own'! Chuck
  14. And yet Rick Dees is still allowed to spin records on the radio. Amazing! I used to listen to his radio show. Chuck
  15. How 'bout... 'One Eyed, One Horned, Flying Purple People Eater' or 'Disco Duck' Chuck
  16. Chuck, I never knew that. I've heard very few songs that can equal or top the original... and, in some cases, I really wish people wouldn't push them out if they can't meet or beat it. It ruins the original for me. I can tell you that in those cases where I've heard a remake of one of my many favorites - my tendency is to not even listen so it doesn't ruin it for me. I was surprised when I walked into a friend's house and heard David Cook on American Idol do a remake of "Eleanor Rigby." Literally stood there ready to put my hands on my ears a howl at the moos (prolly why I don't watch AI)... but he did a great job [IMO] of making it new and I thought that even Paul McCartney could appreciate this kid. "Eleanor Rigby" remake by David Cook. BIGUN, I recall seeing Cook do his version on AI. I was impressed then and re-viewing the video, I am still impressed. Carl Perkins did a great job on 'Blue Suede Shoes' also but Elvis was too big by that time. On the other hand, Elvis did a great re-make of the Big Mamma Thornton song; 'You Ain't Nothin' But A Hound Dog'. There's a young girl on AI now, who did a version of a Carey Underwood song and knocked it out of the park. It's the rare person who can make a hit of a re-make of an 'original'. Some, music should just be left alone, too. Chuck
  17. On a separate more mellow note.... Turn, Turn, Turn - The Byrds Circa 1965 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, a time to reap that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
  18. These are just 4 that I can think of among hundreds... I know, it's only supposed to be three! 'Blue Sky'... The Allman Brothers Band 'Mixed Emotions'... The Rolling Stones 'Train Kept a' Rollin'... The Yardbirds 'Suite: Judy Blue Eyes'... Crosby, Stills and Nash Chuck
  19. Not to forget about the media coverage .... Good point!! How could I ever forget the media? I'm not the 'artsy-fartsy' type but to me, if it isn't signed by Remington, Catlin or Russel... I'm afraid, Idon't understand it! Chuck
  20. I've always thought I had a 'wild' imagination but I just don't see it. To me, it looks like a piece of crap. A lot of what people call 'art', I just don't understand. I think this is just more of 'much ado about nothing'. The really bad part of it is the money spent on the 'sculpture'. The only one making-outon this deal is the one who made it. Laughing all the way to the bank. Chuck
  21. I can't help but think he sold his soul to the Devil to get this crop of GOP nominees. He and Colbert have material just writing itself, and far more than can fit into 4 shows a week. For making the least out of the most potential, Romney is giving Gore a run for his money. I think you're right. Not un-like any other politician, he'll say whatever he and his speech writers think he should say to get those votes. Everything either one of them says is fodder for the night-time comedians. Stewart and Colbert just do it better. Chuck
  22. I've seen someone standinding-up on two horses but I gotta see her drive two Caddies! Chuck Jon Stewart had her driver controlling one, and she sitting in the drivers seat in the second one stacked on top. I saw that on the news this morning. Noone can top Jon Stewart! Chuck Colbert & Stewart need to get serious about Colbert's run for president; They couldn't lose to the current crop of GOP "contenders" even if they tried. The voting public would take them more serious than the clowns running now. Colbert & Stewart need to 'kick that mule'! Chuck
  23. No, not really. She's not my type and my wife would throw a shoe. Chuck Translation: "My wife reads the BF." Chuck
  24. Yep, Chucky .... and this is the best of them (for my ears) - found an old DVD in Poland a while ago on a flea market: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wF4_LKQdDF4 There are some great sounds in that song. Considering the equipment available in the 60's and 70's. Grat find for you! Chuck
