  1. Chief Joseph was pretty interesting. His major concerns were toward his people and avoiding 'war' with the U.S. troops. He and his people were responsible for the Appaloosa horse breed and kept very concise breeding records. Chuck
  2. Just for the heck of it, I'm going to mention Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce. He led his people and was able to 'avoid' U.S. troops, through three western states and one Canadian Province until his surrender. His tacticts are studied to this day at West Point. Chuck
  3. You ain't fibbing, cowboy. "Ain't" is a word and it ain't no longer excluded from the dictionary. I go by Merriam-Webster circa 1980-something. It is my first dictionary as part of a special Costco trichotomy featuring a dictionary, a thesaurus and something else (I forget what--never used it). My dictionary has my name written inside it in my own beginner's handwriting and resides forthwith in such a locus where I can consult it for big words transcribed in my fashion magazines such as "coquettish" and "haute". You ain't kiddin', ain't is a word! It's gotta be... I use it all the time! I keep a copy of The american Heritage Dictionary handy to doublt-check spellings of words on ocasion. The way a lot of folks spell now days, I get confused at times. It's good to have a back-up. 'haute' and 'coquettish' usually ain't among my top choice os words. Don't they use those words in those 'romance novels'? I've never heard them outa the mouths of any of the hands I've worked with. Chuck
  4. We just like to make 'em up as we go along. Not necessarily following any 'word protocol'. That way, it doesn't appear in a dictionary and we can't get caught 'mis-spelling'. It's really simple. Chuck
  5. These days, there's a lengthy disclaimer attached to everything. Just out of impulse, I would try to help the human first. Then the pet. Chuck
  6. I'd have to say the human first. Simply because, criminal charges could probably be brought against me if I didn't. Chuck
  7. Highly commendable! Bless you girl.
  8. ...or a chipped one! Chuck
  9. Certainly, not an ideal time to call her by the wrong name! Chuck
  10. Happy Birthday, Big guy! Chuck
  11. I do! That's all I've done all my life. I live comfortably and pay my bills without concern. I appreciate those folks who work hard for what they have. I just don't like folks who look down their noses at people who do work hard for what they have. I don't have any use for those who 'expect' things to be given to them, either. I've known and worked for people who have worked hard all their lives and made millions and aren't afraid to get their hands dirty. I really respect them, too. I think, you appreciate what you have more if, you had to work for it. Chuck
  12. So much for getting plate numbers, veh. description, possible ID of driver and occupants and... leg work? I can understand returning fire on a fleeing vehicle but there's still a risk of hitting an innocent 3rd. party. Chuck
  13. But guilty of what? I've run from the police after a BASE jump. Does that make me worthy of being shot? Just don't do it in Chicago! Chuck
  14. Hmmm... starts two threads with 'porn' in the title. Anyone else see a pattern forming? Chuck
  15. Devious... aren't you? Chuck
  16. Depends on each family's tradition, I suppose. In a lot of families it's just a generic holiday from work where you pig out on turkey and related gluttony in the middle of the afternoon, watch some football, and there's little or no religious overtone. The initial intent of our founding fathers was to thank God, one day a year, for what we have. The fact that man, over the years has changed it to what we know it today doesn't change the intent of the founding fathers. No matter how we try to change things, there is truth that Christianity and Free Masonry played a role in the formation of our nation. Chuck
  17. Yup! Ben Franklin, possibly trying to be humorous (my guess) Wanted to make the turkey the national symbol. To think, the majestic eagle was only second choice! Chuck Yeah he wasn't real fond of the eagle being a carrion bird. I guess, he couldn't see how they help keep streams clean of dead and rotting salmon. What does a turkey do... on the other hand, those suckers taste good, baked and stuffed! Chuck

  19. What I was getting at was how 'historians' word things differently where the reader could see it differently. Chuck
  20. I see... I haven't read about all this in years. I'm getting a re-fresher course in our history. Also, the Queen hocked (pawned) the crown jewels to finance Chris' trip. I learned that on 'Pawn Stars'! Chuck
  21. It's just another one of the great myths told about the country. This bit of indoctrination usually come sometime around Thanksgiving. If anything, the country was mostly founded for profit motives. Weren't the first settlers in this country persecuted back in their 'native' country for religious beliefs? No, they were persecuted for trying to impose their puritanical beliefs on everyone else, and everyone else got pissed off with them. Right! The lesson being, of course, that history is what the author of the history book says it is. For example, the First Battle of Bull Run was fought in the Civil War. The First Battle of Manassas was fought in the War of Northern Aggression. I get it... the old 'word' game! Sheeeesh! Chuck

Chuck No, they were persecuted for trying to impose their puritanical beliefs on everyone else, and everyone else got pissed off with them. Right! Wouldn't that come under 'beliefs'... they believed they had to spread the 'word' to all others? Chuck

If anything, the country was mostly founded for profit motives. Yes, of course... the Puritans just wanted to get that sweet land deal from the Indians. Did someone re-write our history books while we slept? Chuck
