  1. NO! I don't shoot animals in parks but if one charges me (not very likely) I would like to have half a chance. I was just giving possible examples. Chuck
  2. My dad always told me; "Never under-estimate your opponent!" It's kinda' hard to really determine 'who' started it due to the fact the video started after the start of their conversation. The ol' guy DID try to leave the situation but the young guy kept runnin his mouth and took a poke at the ol' guy. Chuck
  3. Thanks for passing that along! I really miss those two comic strips. I think my wife bought a 'Far Side' calendar each January till they quit printing them. We've sent 'Far side' Christmas cards and etc. Since that last comic strip of 'Calvin and Hobbes', we've done exactly what it said... 'Lets go exploring.' There'll never be anything like those two... ever! Chuck
  4. I know of a guy who was packing with horses and mules in a National Park. He had two mules roll down a very steep hillside. Both had broken legs and internal injuries. Guns were outlawed then in National Parks, so he had no choice but to cut there throats with a knife. He said it was awful to have two of his favorite pack animals looking back at him as they bled to death. He said after that he always carried a gun in the back country. He didn't care what the law said. My dad said he never wanted to have to put one of his horses to death with a rock or knife. He always had an old 30/30 in his saddle boot. One time he had his camp raided by a grizzly when he was out fishing. There's plenty of uses for a gun other than shooting two legged varmits..... I can understand. I had to have a vet put one of my horses 'to sleep', after he coliced. I wasn't worth a flip for six months after that... and I didn't have to watch him die. I think, with more and more folks going 'deeper' into our parks and especially as 'wild and wooly' as Big bend is, I can see many reasons for carrying a pistol or rifle. Rattlesnakes, cats, bear and etc. I love listening to those ol' boys about their 'adventures'. you gotta be tough in that country! Chuck
  5. Calvin and Hobbes and The Far Side, were two of my wife and my favorites. We have the very last strip of Calvin and Hobbes framed and hanging on the wall of our front room. The last line really caught us... "Let's go exploring!" Chuck
  6. It's an issue that has been hyped-up by the anti-gun folks. All the new law says is that the national parks must adopt the same gun control laws as the host state. So what's already been happening in Texas with gun carry for over a decade, will now be allowed to happen in National Parks too. And since nothing horrible has happened elsewhere in the state where these laws have applied for a long time, there's no reason to believe that it will have any different effect when these same people now drive through a park gate. They won't magically transform into mass-shooting zombies, just because they drive past a sign that says; "Welcome to Big Bend National Park". It's been the usual gun-o-phobe tactics; all fear-mongering and no logic. Here's a warning about the two-legged danger published in the Houston Canoe Club newsletter just last month: http://www.houstoncanoeclub.org/waterline/2010/february/article_7.html I live not too far from the Big Bend region and have heard many similar tales as you posted. It's getting scarey. Especially with the increased drug traffic through the area. With all this in mind, I'm glad to see the change in the laws pertaining to the carrying of firearms in the Big Bend park and other parks. Chuck
  7. Having been to Big Bend a couple of times (not nearly as many as John), I'm with you on this one. Although its not nearly as bad as Glacier National Park was...damned Canadians... I hear, they carry hockey sticks! The bears are bigger there, too! Chuck
  8. Thanks. Yes, I've heard about that. Rocks vs. a .45. Them banditos should be worried. Isn't there something about bringing a rock to a gun fight? At first, I didn't care too much for the idea of guns in National parks but, after some thought, I can really see the point. Especially in the Big Bend area. That park has well traveled drug routes. I'd be less fearful of the cats and bears! Chuck
  9. Be careful! They've been throwing rocks at folks on the river, from the Mexican side, lately. Especially Border Patrol boats. Have a good trip. Chuck
  10. No sympathy here! It just stands to reason... when a politician wants to 'use' you, it's exactly that. Then too, 'Joe the Plumber' was looking for some form of 'benefit' from it and it didn't happen. He played the game and lost. There's a sucker born every minute and two to take 'em! Chuck
  11. ...and they won't sprout in your stomach! My grandmother had one of those gizmos. When I was a kid, she showed me how to operate it. She only used it when making tomatoe sauce and didn't want seeds in it. Chuck
  12. I peeled an onion the other day. It made me cry. Will that get me off the hook? I skinned a wild boar last weekend and slashed my thumb, was that revenge? No... you're supposed to skin the pig... not your thumb! Chuck
  13. I peeled an onion the other day. It made me cry. Will that get me off the hook? Woos! Chuck
  14. I think it's hilarious. Pokin' a little fun and no harm intended. Just another good-good comercial from Budweiser. Anyone who takes offense takes themselves waaay too serious. This whole country needs to lighten-up! Chuck
  15. You, sir, are a brave, brave man. You've never been to a BUFFET? Chuck
  16. That's right! Always eat your vegatables with your meat! Chuck
  17. Good point! Not a good idea to get violent with those types but they can draw-out those feelings.. Chuck
  18. We love free speech. With free speech comes responsibility. Many of our 'freedoms' have been stretched to the breaking point. Freedom of speech is probably at the top of the list. Do you believe that people in the U.S., have the right to incite riots (as an example) through 'freedom of speech'? Chuck Inciting riots or stampedes are not protected as those actions infringe on the rights of others. But you do not have a right to not be offended by others. Passing out propaganda outside the school is not inciting a riot. And yes, flag burning is fine too, with the exception of where it presents a fire hazard. Ex: burning a flag inside a fireworks factory presents obvious safety issues. As I said, I only used 'inciting a riot' as an example. What if, that propaganda being passed out, I found offensive? Kids need to be allowed to be kids and don't need some whack-job trying to push their point of view down their throats. Perfect example of 'just say no'. My point was, our 'freedoms' are being stretched to the breaking point. Where does it stop? I reserve the right to knock some klansman or neo-nazi on his ass if he tried to hand my kid his propaganda! Freedom of expression! Chuck
  19. A minor child cannot have 'consentual sex' in this country. Not in the eyes of the courts. Sex with a minor child is statutory rape. Chuck
  20. I've tried on many occasions. Almost finished the whole thing a couple of times You can eat an elephant, too... one bite at a time! Chuck

  22. Me thinks you should stop watching videos and actually try visiting a farm or two. I said it first! Chuck
