Unfortunately it's mostly gun zealots who play with numbers. 20 years ago one would say "there will always be tobacco". I'm not in hurry. You cant but tobacco anymore?? News to me! I can still buy snuff. Chuck I would suck if I could not get my fav cigar anymore Back when I drank and smoked, there was nothing like a good cigar and a cold mug of good beer!

And they pretty much ended it for themselves - so they are kinda ahead, correct? :) and the only reason it looks "good" is because it is often misleading, or an outright lie. Like with gun crime in UK That is because you were reading JR (or nralia, which is basically the same). Do not expect to find any unbiased information from them. mnealtx just provided direct evidence from UK government which shows that gun crime is down, not up. I have never said I was saved by an average Joe gun owner. A cop or soldier would be a different story. That the way it is with numbers... you can play them all you want and have them read any which way you want. Which was it? 'Average Joe Gun owner' a cop or a soldier who saved you? Looks to me like you twisted John's and Mikes information to suit yoursel and your 'cause', whatever that is. This is getting nowhere real fast. I'm done. You can rail all you want against guns but let me say this... there will always be guns. In 'good' hands' or 'bad'. Quit beating your head on a wall and stop and smell the roses. Chuck

About a year ago, I bought a Ruger, MK III and I love it. Nice little pistol. I haven't had a problem with it and it's really accurate. My choice for CC is a S&W, Model-66. I just like Wheel-guns. Chuck

You said that "only examples of gun owners coming to the rescue of people like him that refuse to protect themselves are acceptable. " THIS is what you have to prove. You can provide zillions of irrelevant examples (like the one you paraphrased), but it would not matter because you need to prove a very specific thing. The reason you cannot do it because I did not say it like that - this is just how you (mistakenly) interpreted it. But you attributed it to me, and screwed up there. I'm going to sleep, enjoy your search. Looks to me like Mike proved his point and submitted valid information. You submit only one source. That was a real nice graph... where does it cover? London, Paris, Rome... all of Europe? Me thinks, you just like to argue! Chuck

That's because you're reading JohnRich. If you look on official Home Office stats, you'll see that the number of firearms offenses in UK goes DOWN. Guess London isn't listening any better than Washington DC, then: Thanks for the back-up! Chuck

For example? ___________________ Europe's gun laws! Guns started in Europe with the advent of gunpowder. That sperad to the U.S. and we began to manufacture guns. With that in mind... Europe started it all! ___________________________ That's because you're reading JohnRich. If you look on official Home Office stats, you'll see that the number of firearms offenses in UK goes DOWN. John is not my only source. He does come across with 'good' information. I guess, it depends on whose stats you read. All I could find was how England's gun-crime rate was way up, last year. What I don't understand is, you are so much against guns yet, you stated that you were 'saved' by a gun owner. I would think, you would have more of an understanding if not appreciation of guns. Ya' got me there! Chuck

Works very well in Europe though. That's Europe! This is the U.S.A. What works for some, doesn't always work for others. Is that why we've been reading and hearing of more gun related crimes in places like England? I think, as we say here, 'You're kickin' a dead horse!' Chuck

Too bad too, there's nothing either one of us can do about who gets a gun. Seem like also, noone can tell just who or when, someone is going to 'snap'. Poo-poo happens! Chuck
-
Basically, I did. I just didn't name names. What it boils down to is, there's nothing you or I can do about who gets a gun and who doesn't. Totally banning guns just doesn't work. Stiffer laws don't work. It's like pounding your head on a wall... it fells better when you stop. Chuck

MaterIALS id during Senior Rigger Practical
masterrig replied to riggerrob's topic in Gear and Rigging
None here! I've never heard of that being a part of the Senior rigger practical. During my work with a Senior Rigger, prior to my practical, references to various tapes, webbings and lines, we used the proper 'terms' in regard to them. By the time we were done, I could tell them blindfolded! Chuck -
He doesn't care about that - only examples of gun owners coming to the rescue of people like him that refuse to protect themselves are acceptable. DOH! I missed that one! Chuck

Yes. Years ago, I had a guy bring me a 'complete' rig, everything un-packed and shoved into a cardboard box. I pulled everything out of the box to take a look at things. The reserve and main were both connected to the container. Both canopies as well as all the lines were filthy. The reserve was attached to the main risers and the main was attached to the reserve risers. All labels were in their correct places on the equipment. Obviously, many jumps had been put on both canopies. After about 30-minutes of looking it all over, I told the guy I would not pack it and I advised him not to buy it. Over the course of 3-years, I saw that mess two more times. I told the last guy who brought it to me to just scrap it and that I never wated to see it again... EVER! Chuck

My question was "how many people were murdered with seat belts"? How many people, in the U.S., were killed (intentionally) by means of other than a firearm? Now, compare the two figures, those murdered with guns and those murdered by 'other means'. I think, you'll be surprised. Chuck

If, someone wants a gun, it doesn't take a whole lot of effort to get one. It's more difficult for an honest person to get a gun than a bad guy. Cho and others weren't paid any attention to and slipped through the cracks. the 'warning signs' were ignored. Stuff happens. To take it out on law abiding citizens who own guns is wrong. There will always be guns and the bad guys will always have the higher fire-power... that's just the way it is. it's a whole different world out there. More gangs, more whackos and assorted other bad guys. I don't worry about it. I have at least, a fighting chance to defend myself... legally! I'm tired too, of 'minority groups' trying to take my rights away. The way I see it... if someone doesn't like guns... stay away from them but, don't deny a law abiding citizen. Chuck

Anything can and probably has been used to take a human life. Hammers, belts, screw-drivers, pipe wrenches... you name it and somewhere, some time it's been used to kill someone. It all depends on who's hands that item is in. Guns are no different. We have the right to keep and bear arms. We have the right to attend a class and be licensed to carry that gun. How many times have you heard of a licensed gun bearer in trouble because of mis-using his firearm? The one's I worry about are those who are not licensed to carry a firearm, have criminal records and 'intend' to use that firearm for no good. I like the fact that I am licensed to carry a gun and should the time arise (I really don't look forward to it) I can protect myself, my family or an innocent 3rd. party. You and everyone else, have the right to choose not to carry a firearm. Trying to lump together all possessers of firearms is generalizing and I think, out of fear. Chuck

MMMM mesquite grilled sidewinder steaks...MMMMM That is, pretty good eatin'! Chuck That was one of the FEW things I really enjoyed while running around out on the Nellis AFB ranges.. when we got to go "camping" out there in the desert but the "green" rattlers there were a bunch bigger and a lot more common I've had diamond back and side-winder but never green rattlers! Don't believe I've ever seen a green rattler! Chuck Oh heck yes.. I kept the first one I ever caught as a pet for a couple years. ( not that I "petted" Strike very much) It was a Pacific Emerald Diamondback and I caught him while deer hunting along the Deschutes River in Oregon. They tend to get that color if they live someplace were it provides better cover for them. Down in Nevada they had them in the creosote and mesquite bottoms. Not as green as the Oregon variety.. but a definite tinge of green to em. Thanks. Stands to reason, they would adapt their color to their surroundings. Around here, they tend to blend-in with the rocks and sand. We also have a highly deadly 'rock rattler'. According to what I've read, they are smaller but deadlier than a diamond back or side-winder. Chuck

I love it! Thanks! Chuck
