Should baseball pull the 2011 All-Star game from Arizona?
masterrig replied to Belgian_Draft's topic in Speakers Corner
We're all a part of this society, we can't ignore some parts an recognoze others. Baseball doesn't ignore any race color or creed. Baseball hires blacks, whites, orientals, hispanics, jews, catholics, protestants, irish, methodists and so-on and so-on. Why should they have to 'pay'? Politics has absolutely no business in baseball or any other sport. The new law in Arizona has nothing to do with baseball. Some elements of our society just take things too damned far. Chuck Hispanics are likely the majority ethnic group among MLB employees, or at least a VERY strong minority. As respectful employers, the MLB teams should not be coercing their people to travel somewhere where they can be singled out on the basis of their ethnicity. If I found out an upcoming job was in a place where my employees weren't welcome, and there were hundreds of other places that would bend over backwards for my people, I'd send them somewhere more enjoyable. Blues, Dave Of course. The protection of employees like athletes is of utmost importance. The way I see it, there's too many self centered, egocentric people who believe they are more important than anyone else and do not consider the effects of their actions on others... it's all about them. In this case, they are stepping into an area they do not belong. They don't need to take their 'cause' to major league or little league sports. This verges on the attacks on Olympic athletes in the past. Athletes just want to play their game and don't need a bunch of political hot-heads endangering their lives. Like I said earlier... a majority of these protesters don't have a clue but by golly, they're going to get into the mix. Chuck -

What I'm getting at is, baseball is doing right but they are 'paying' for it by not being able to play a game because of some political thing that everyone is in an uproar about and damned few people even know entirely what it's about. The whole mess is BS. If, they want to protest... do it at the Capital building. those are the folks who started it all. Why, inflict this on baseball??????????? Chuck -

Famous Celebrities that have served in the Military...

If you're in the military then you're either doing the killing yourself or you are supporting in some manner those who do the killing. And I understand that the military does humanitarian work and all the rest, but the primary purpose is to kill "enemies". ...and if it weren't for those who have served this country, you would not have the freedom to say what you just did or any other freedoms you can think of. Borgnine served on the Wickes Class USS Lamberton, DMS. Converted WW-I high-speed destroyer converted to a mine sweeper (same class ship my dad served on) as a gunner. Chuck -

As a matter of fact, I did know that. My Dad, who was in the Navy on a destroyer and involved in 9 of the invasions there, told me. While I was watching 'McHale's Navy'! I really gotta work on my humor! Chuck -

I'll get it outa here... Ernest Borgnine... Navy PT-boat commander! Chuck -
Grant put it into his personal memoirs, that he published before dying in 1886. It's pretty real. I'd bet the Geronimo quote is a joke, though Wendy P. Grant was trying to get over a drastic drop in popularity due to accusations of mis-conduct flying around. Geronimo never said that. I was messin' with Andy. Chuck

Oh, I'm immune to that. I would imagine, in your line of work, you need a thick skin. Chuck
-
...and I was jerkin' your chain. Chuck

Of course if someone from the Tea Party was spewing that spittle laced diatribe there'd be hell to pay. OK. As to the first, go to Grant's Tomb and tell the General that his memoirs are a spittle-laced diatribe. As to the second; well, as you know, you said that in your OP. Stop spittling. How do we know, for a fact, these men actually said those things? So much of our history has been 're-worked'! Chuck

Imagine THAT on the back of a football jersey! I'd hate like hell to have to go against a guy big enough to wear a jersy with that on it! Chuck BTW: I spell checked it and came up with something else! Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis

This just helps to show that 'our' countries are run by big business not our 'elected' politicians ..... You got that right!!! Chuck

It's giving me a rash already. My 30 days begins.......now. Someone remind me on June 9th so I can delete this hideous shit from my computer. Gave y'all a new sig line to enjoy also. Don I feel for you, man. Got respect for you for honoring the bet. Chuck

I'm sick and tired of hearing the constant, mindless drivel from announcers about him and the Penguins! Chuck

I've never seen anything like it! Good grounds for 'conspiracy theorists' but it is what it is. I really do believe, the Wings got the short end of the deal. The Wings had too many sloppy passes and just too many little mistakes. They just didn't play like they did in game four. We can only look to next season. It's going to be a loooong summer! We can thank the NHL for parity and salary cap for the way hockey is today. Chuck

Sharks came right back with a goal of the face-off. Starting the 3rd. 1-1 tie. This is too close... sheeesh! Pavelski missed a penalty shot! Phew Marleau just scored... not looking good for the Wings. Chuck

I just remember that I drank. Other than that, its really sketchy. Chuck
-
That drinkin' will get you in trouble! I can't help but recall my drinkin' days and have to cut you some slack... just don't let it happen again! We're cool! Chuck
