I just finished watching the video from your first post and wow! That Tandem CReW really got my attention! Not a good idea. Just plain stupid!
-
I did my AFF there, not nearly as long ago as your first jump. I miss that dropzone! I didn't know that dropzone had that long of a history.
-
Your friend has 9 jumps total?

When you get a chance come on down to Skydive Dallas. We will work with anyone that interested in learning to freefly or wants to work on being a better freeflier. We generally don't charge anything and really consider it to be part of the load organizing. Let me know ahead of time and I can either be there to work with you or find out who the load organizer is for that weekend and give them a heads up. I don't like charging for freefly coaching. I wasn't charged anything. I consider it as giving back to the sport and feel that it's my responsibility to help grow freeflying.

I am currently using Vegas Pro 8 and that setting doesn't appear to have any effect on my editing speed. For editing AVCHD from my CX100 I have the project set to HD 1080-60i (1920x1080, 29.970 fps). My computer has a quad core 2.4 ghz intel processor and 4 gig of memory. It's not an i7 and editing is not slow at all.

What do you mean by this?

I don't see any reason to lock this thread. It may motivate people to put together a team, either Freefly or VFS and compete at Nationals. I for one would love to see more teams at Nationals.

Do poor people do things to keep themselves poor.

Right but you drawing the poverty line awfully high don't you think?? I never went to Yale or Harvard. I don't consider myself to be poor. -

I disagree. Some people have fewer obstacles to over come then others. Anyone can pull themselves out of poverty if they have the drive to do so along with the ability to see opportunities and take advantage of them. Many do not have that ability or the intelligence to see the opportunities and act on them. Society doesn't limit them, they limit themselves. -
I think it's a lot more work then you are making out to be. It's not an overly complicated application to build but there is a significant amount of time involved.
-
I wouldn't say it's just the 'will' to do it but also the money. How much would it cost in hours to register and keep track of competitors?
-
I can't think of anything in Freeflying that would fit that description.
-
I plan on being there in 2010. I have competed in the last three Nationals(07, 08, and 09) in VFS and had a lot fun doing so. I look forward to seeing lots of teams show up.

"Partner protection" @ '09 USPA Nationals

The party scene was severely lacking in the evenings. I think that was due to the numerous and massively sized mosquitos. Spaceland is definitely not a party dropzone. To me it seemed like the vendors did not make the most of their sponsorship. All they had was lots of banners and wind blades. (sorry not feeling well) -
I used two pieces of gaffers tape to keep the display closed and nothing else to shield it from the elements. I used the 3030 on the CX100 and it gave me the best results. Even with the Cat Crap anti fog the 5050 would have a little bit of fogging, but the 3030 didn't have a problem as long as I didn't go through a cloud, but that would cause a problem no matter what. I kept the cameras out of the air conditioning.
-
Did you keep your cameras away from air conditioning? I did video for 4 way FS and never had any camera problems. I also used anti fog on my lenses. I was using the CX100 and the HC5 with the Raynox 3030 and 5050 lenses.

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not?

But why did it use the design? It's a common cutaway scenario. Spiraling mains place the body inline with the main so it should have yanked the freebag out just fine. It's really hard to tell what exactly is going on by just looking at the video. But from what I could tell it looks like he is dearched and his body wasn't inline with the main. That's just my observations. Like I said in an earlier post I had a similar malfunction and cut away with a Skyhook installed on my rig and I had a much different result.
-
The skyhook wasn't a problem in your situation. If you had a plain old RSL you would most likely have had the same situation. The skyhook didn't actually pull your reserve like it was designed to do. It reverted to RSL mode, as it was apparently designed to do. The only problem you actually had was having to deploy your reserve on your back.

"Partner protection" @ '09 USPA Nationals

For my team this is all pretty much a non issue, we don't have a tent with any logo on it. But for those teams that have a logo'd tent, I could see this as a big inconvenience. I don't see this as giving Spaceland's sponsors that much of an advantage. It don't think it is worth the trouble. I think Spaceland is just doing this as a marketing gimmick so that they can charge their sponsors more money. -
"Partner protection" @ '09 USPA Nationals
beowulf replied to skybytch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This year will be my third consecutive USPA Nationals. I never felt like there was a lot of advertising at the 07 or 08 Nationals. I don't really think this was necessary or needed. USPA didn't publish this so I think it's a Spaceland thing. I think Spaceland is trying to force the major sponsors to pay to advertise at Nationals. -
In that case then the Skyhook did exactly what it should have done and disabled itself. You essentially had no RSL at all for that jump. Or maybe I am reading this wrong?
-
Interesting video, not sure what exactly happened there. It sure doesn't look like the Skyhook pulled the reserve. The more I watch the video the more I wonder if the lanyard was even hooked up to the riser. I had a similar malfunction two weekends ago. Only I wasn't on my back when I cut away. I have a very new Vector Micron with a Skyhook in it. I had no line twists at all under my reserve.

I have both the HC5 and the CX100 and have been using my HC5 for the last couple of years, I love it. But I just bought the CX100 and really love the size and weight of it compared to the HC5. My recommendation is to buy a CX100 and video in SD that way you won't have to buy a new computer right away. You still have the option of HD and a very light and small camera. Also you have the added benefit of fast transfer of video to a computer via file transfer instead of video capture from firewire. Oh yeah, you won't have to buy any more tapes!!!
-
I think it's the best one out there. It's probably not cheaper then the CX100 and you can set the CX100 to SD. You don't have to video in HD if you don't want to. The CX100 doesn't have the shake issues.
