  1. Not trying to insult you, just telling you what I see. You can call me and talk to me if you want. I will PM you my phone number. It's better that he understands what he is doing then being uncertain. Algebra is very straight forward. NOT EVERYONE can think that logically. That doesn't mean anything is wrong with them. It just meanst they are better at other things and just don't think that way. Which can be a good thing.
  2. That is a misread on your part. x was not predefined. Your kid solved the equations for X and then put a box around each answer. Two equations two answers. My math background goes as far as College Calculus 3. Algebra is very easy and I remember seeing things like this. Ask you kid what the original problems were.
  3. Your question doesn't make sense. I don't understand what you are asking. 10x = 3.99 is not related or have anything to do with 10x - x = 39.9 - 3.9 They can not be combined. The .9s going on forever is implied. There is no way for me to type the - over the top of the 9s.
  4. Do you understand what I was saying? Depending on the teacher, they might not accept that sloppyness. He should have told you he was solving two different equations not one. He was using the boxes to show two different answers to two different equations. There is no ambiguity in math.
  5. NO Your son was being sloppy and not showing that he was solving two different equations. The first boxed text should go under the 10x = 39.9 as the answer to that equation. The second equation is 10x - x = 39.9 - 3.9 answer is x = 4 Two equations two different answers. 4 does not equal 3.99.
  6. looks fine to me. you have two equations. One was solved as x = 39.9 and the other was solved as x = 4 first equation is 10x = 39.99 with the 9 going on forver. x was solved as equaling 3.99 where 9 goes on forever. second equation is 10x-x = 39.9 - 3.9 both the 9s go on forever. x was solved as equaling 4. Very basic algebra. Math isn't for everyone.
  7. Sounds like you're one of those people who long for the "good old days". Unfortunately the "good old days" were never really what you remembered them to be and the future will never live up to your memory. "America" will always be changing and evolving into something new as every moment passes. Try not to spend too much time mourning the past.
  8. http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/06/29/supreme.court.discrimination/index.html I personally don't think there is any such thing as "reverse discrimination". It's either racial discrimination or it's not. It doesn't matter if the person is white or not. Why is it that the media doesn't consider it to be racial discrimination if the person is white?
  9. I have been pretty lucky so far. No major incidents while skydiving. But I have been in a couple of major car accidents. The last one I remember thinking oh shit this is going hurt a lot and I am going to die a very slow and painful death. The next thing that went through my mind was that I had a lot more things to do then just die. I was mostly right. It was very painful and slow recovery. I was just wrong about the dieing part. Although it was very close.
  10. I really don't think it should be much of a concern. I personally don't think the Vector main flap is any more of a snag potential then any other rig. The only time I know of off hand that this has happened was with a Javelin Odyssey and it wasn't the main flap it was the left side flap. My current rig is an Odyssey and I currently have a Vector 3 Micron on order. You are worrying about a very very small chance that in my opinon could happen on any rig.
  11. Just a scary thought! But can't you jump with out an AAD?? It's been done before!
  12. I have over 300 jumps with the HC5. I only use the Sony HD miniDV tapes and have never had any dropped frames. Oh yeah, I never reuse tape at all.
  13. You just need to get your ear closer to their umm .... well....
  14. I love to watch skydiving although most of it is my own footage. I have small collectionof DVD's that I like to watch during the week. I recommend the Remedy video. You can buy it from Paragear or Square One. Skydiving is just not big enough or mainstream enough for there to be a channel that shows any skydiving regularly. Those shows that do show any skydiving are usually just showing carnage video.
  15. Those lenses degrade the quality of any SD camera and even more so on an HD camera. It totally defeats the purpose of having an HD camera.
  16. Yes those lenses would lower the quality to less then SD quality. Try the Raynox 5050 pro for .5 or 3030 pro for .3. They are the best quality for the dollar lenses available. BTW If you do searches on this forum you can find most of your questions already answered and answers to questions you haven't thought of asking yet.
  17. I don't think many people have seen Gypsy Moths. I have a copy on DVD. It's pretty interesting to see the old skydiving footage.
  18. If it's a choice between riding in a spinning main and cutting away and hoping that your reserve opens fast enough. I think I would rather have the skyhook there to give me a better chance. Now that doesn't mean I wouldn't do the same with out a Skyhook. The Skyhook shouldn't change any procedures. You should always mind your harddeck, but there are and have been circumstances that have put someone low and no option other then to cutaway and hope there reserve gets out quick enough. Even the best can find themselves in that situation.
  19. Yeah completely avoidable by not skydiving anymore. You missed the point. It is possible to find yourself extremely low no matter how good of a skydiver you are.
  20. I have personally seen it save one person who cutaway extremely low. Would the story have been different with a regular rsl? I don't know but it would have been a lot closer.
  21. I really don't think it's a "serious problem" on any rig. It's too rare for that status. I have a V3 Micron on order and currently have a Javelin.
  22. I also think you are totally wrong. The DVD quality will be better if start with HD footage. Not only that you then have the option of writing to DVD in AVCHD format so it will play on a blu ray disc player in HD.
  23. I have been to a number of dropzones that never asked for my logbook. They just required a USPA card, reserve card and a signed waiver.
  24. In my opinion you illustrate how too many lawyers have really screwed up this country. I disagree with your take on this incident.
